Chapter 612 How Many Mosquitoes Have You Seen?

“Alright, you should go now. It’s getting late. After chatting with Mr. Zhang for a while, you’ll probably have to head back,” Chen Shunwei said.

Shen Yanming nodded: "Okay, I'll come find you another time when I'm free."

"Okay!" Chen Shunwei waved goodbye to Shen Yanming and quickly ran back to continue playing cards with the other homeowners.

This summer, although it was hot and humid, it was much better because there weren't too many mosquitoes.

Shen Yanming drove to the underground parking lot of Building 6 and then called Zhang Heping.

Less than five minutes later, this guy came out in his slippers.

The moment she saw Shen Yanming, her eyes lit up. The moment she saw Bi Qiaoan, she lost her composure.

"Oh my goodness, why did you bring your two little devils along?" Zhang Heping exclaimed.

Bi Qiaoan smiled and said, "I brought it over to show Uncle Heping, otherwise I would have had to ask the neighbors for help, which would have been too much trouble for them."

Zhang Heping was amused by the address "Uncle Heping" and nodded with a smile: "Okay, okay, it's fine if you take care of them yourself, but you have to protect my nephew and niece well and make sure they don't catch a cold or get bitten by mosquitoes."

Shen Yanming rolled his eyes at him and said, "Where are you going to catch a chill in this sweltering heat? Besides, how many mosquitoes have you seen this summer?"

That being said, before leaving home, Comrade Shen did put mosquito repellent in the baby carriers of both babies.

Furthermore, they applied some homemade medicine to their bodies, which contained ingredients such as mint, and felt cool and refreshing when applied.

Otherwise, the couple wouldn't dare take their child out in the sweltering heat.

"Alright, what are you standing there for? Come and help move these things," Shen Yanming said.

Zhang Heping said "Oh, oh" twice and then walked away with a smile.

Hehe, since we asked him to help move things, there must be a lot of stuff. Besides, everything Old Shen brings out is top-notch.

Shen Yanming opened the trunk and stuffed several vacuum-packed bags of rice and flour into Zhang Heping's hands.

Zhang Heping, who was initially happy about having so many things, suddenly looked dejected because he already had six bags on his arm, and Shen Yanming was planning to add more.

"Stop, stop, stop! I can't move it anymore. If you put it any more on top, it'll fall!" Zhang Heping didn't care about saving face anymore. He was just a man of limited strength, so who didn't know what he was capable of?

Shen Yanming chuckled, withdrew his hand from the food he was about to put out, and said with a hint of malice, "I didn't expect that after practicing for several months, you'd still be so weak."

Zhang Heping wanted to argue, but considering his small stature, he just pursed his lips and admitted it.

As we walked toward the elevator, he muttered, "You're strong, so you can carry more. It'll save me a lot of effort."

Shen Yanming had excellent hearing, and he was so angry at what he heard that he almost laughed.

He's willing to meddle, of course. If it weren't for his brother, he wouldn't say those annoying things.

However, Zhang Heping only vented his frustration and forgot about it in the blink of an eye; he's the kind of person who doesn't take things to heart. Sure enough, he had just put a few bags of rice and flour into the elevator when he came over to help carry the rest.

Shen Yanming didn't refuse, and bent down to take two small boxes out of the back seat. He stacked them up and walked with them towards the elevator.

As for Bi Qiaoan, she didn't carry anything except two safety baskets, following behind the two of them.

For her, taking care of her son and daughter is all that matters; the rest is none of her concern.

The group went upstairs together and went directly to Zhang Heping's room.

His place is already cleaned up, unlike my own home, where I still have to clean it when I get back.

Shen Yanming put the two boxes of fruit on the ground, and then went to get rice and noodles from the elevator.

Zhang Heping quickly opened the door and welcomed Bi Qiaoan inside.

After everyone entered the house, Zhang Heping said, "Old Shen, you're so thoughtful. You knew to get me vacuum-packed rice and flour. Otherwise, when I'm busy, they might have gone bad."

Shen Yanming raised an eyebrow, thinking to himself, "So that's how it is."

She calmly nodded and asked him, "What about the spoiled rice and flour? Did you throw it away?"

Zhang Heping chuckled sheepishly, "How could that be? I gave them all to Lao Ji, and he fed them to the chickens."

Shen Yanming was taken aback; he had completely forgotten about this.

"He's still raising chickens?" It's been months, and I haven't heard him ask me to collect the eggs!

Zhang Heping nodded: "Of course, it's not easy to buy anything these days. He treasures those chickens."

"Well, raise them well if you can. The eggs they lay will provide you with some nutrition. But if you crave meat, just slaughter them and eat them. Don't worry, I'll get you some chicks after we've finished eating."

After Shen Yanming finished speaking, he noticed that Zhang Heping not only didn't laugh, but instead had a long face.

"What's wrong with you?" Shen Yanming asked.

"Old Ji said chickens should be kept to lay eggs, not slaughtered for food, unless they are old hens that don't lay eggs," Zhang Heping said tearfully.

Shen Yanming wanted to offer some words of comfort, but he didn't know how to say it. He couldn't very well say that his family didn't lack meat.

So I could only try to distract you, saying, "Hey, come and see what delicious food I brought you."

As he spoke, he opened the fruit box, revealing fresh fruits of various colors inside.

"My God, Lao Shen, where did you make your fortune? You even managed to get your hands on fresh lychees. These days, even dried lychees are hard to find, right? Oh my god, what's this? There are grapes too! You're really something, managing to get even these."

Shen Yanming didn't want to pay attention to this noisy fly, and only said, "Take it or leave it, why all the nonsense."

Zhang Heping smiled and hugged the box to his chest, patting it as he said, "I want it, I want it! Anyone who tries to take it from me, I'll fight them!"

Shen Yanming rolled his eyes: "Take the things, but leave the box. I need it to store things later."

Zhang Heping nodded: "I understand, I'll make room for you right away."

After saying that, she went home to look for the cardboard box from which she had finished eating instant noodles. Then she took out the fruit from the storage box that Shen Yanming had brought.

Aside from the relatively rare lychees, the rest are cantaloupes and apples, which keep longer, and grapes and peaches, which don't keep as long. Although the quantity isn't large, there are quite a few varieties.

After he finished clearing out one storage box, he pointed to another and asked Shen Yanming, "This is for Lao Ji, right? Do you need my help to clear it out for him too?"

Shen Yanming nodded: "He's still working overtime, and I don't know if he'll be back tonight. Just leave it out for him; he'll probably come to pick it up first thing tomorrow morning."

"Okay, if he doesn't come, I'll send it to him."

Zhang Heping emptied the two suitcases before asking Shen Yanming, "You two can sleep here tonight, so you don't have to clean up the house when you get back."

Shen Yanming shook his head: "No, I have to leave soon. I have training tomorrow night, so it's not convenient for me to skip class."

"You only had one day off? That's quite a long day. What kind of training is that important?"

"Didn't I tell you before? Survival skills are something you just don't take seriously. Take advantage of this downtime and learn something new," Shen Yanming said earnestly.
