"Okay, okay, I got it. I'll watch it when I have time," Zhang Heping said.
Shen Yanming seemed to remember something and reminded him, "The reason you said the food was bitter is because they were using new grain. This year's newly harvested wheat is indeed a bit bitter."
"What? No way!" Zhang Heping exclaimed.
Shen Yanming nodded. "That's true. Moreover, the longer wheat is dried in the sun, the more bitter it becomes. I tested this by grinding wheat from different harvest times in our fields."
"Then what did you bring me..." Zhang Heping's gaze fell on the vacuum-packed rice and flour on the ground.
"That's old grain, there's not much left, so eat it sparingly. If you use it to feed the chickens again, we'll only be able to eat bitter rice and bitter flour from now on."
Upon hearing this, Zhang Heping's eyes lit up. "If I finish eating it all, can I still continue to eat this kind of non-bitter rice and noodles?"
Shen Yanming rolled his eyes with a laugh. "You're dreaming. Where are you going to get that much food to eat?"
"No, before the apocalypse..."
"Stop, stop! It's been years! Even if the grain is still here, it would have spoiled long ago!"
Zhang Heping pouted, "I should have stockpiled some wheat and rice grains. If we hadn't ground them, they could have been stored for another two years."
Shen Yanming shook his head and chuckled: "Even if you store unhulled grains, they can only last for three to five years. Unless you have special technology that can completely isolate them from the air."
Zhang Heping wanted to say something, but he kept quiet.
He thought that the Alliance's secret granary must be the one Old Shen mentioned, which uses special technology to store grain for many years.
However, thinking that as a nobody, there was really no need for me to pry into such confidential matters, I didn't continue asking.
"I'm telling you this so you're aware of what's going on and don't let anything slip in front of your colleagues and cause trouble."
Zhang Heping nodded: "I understand, I will remind Lao Ji as well."
"Yes, the research institute will probably announce this in a while, and then everyone will know."
Shen Yanming and Zhang Heping chatted for a while longer before preparing to leave.
Before leaving, Zhang Heping looked at him with teary eyes and asked, "Aren't you staying a little longer?"
"No, I'll just tidy up the house a bit, pack a few things, and head back to the guard unit. You should get some sleep; it's getting late."
Zhang Heping glanced at the time; it was already 1:30, so he didn't try to stop them any longer.
He saw the couple out the door and watched them go into the next room before closing the door and happily going to eat some fruit.
As soon as Shen Yanming and Bi Qiaoan entered the room, the two little ones burst into tears, as if they had just learned something.
The couple each picked up one of them and quickly comforted them, only to find that An'an and Nuannuan had opened their big eyes and were looking around curiously.
Oh my, where is this? I've never seen this place before.
Seeing that the two had stopped crying, Bi Qiaoan smiled and said to them, "This is our other home. Look, isn't it big?"
Then, carrying the two little ones, they toured the rooms one by one until they had seen everything, at which point An'an and Nuannuan started whimpering again.
Bi Qiaoan touched the warm diaper; it was dry. "Is it hungry?"
Then she glanced at Shen Yanming and went back to the bedroom to breastfeed.
Old Shen, who remained standing there holding An'an, felt a little awkward for a moment.
You're saying we've seen it before, why go so far?
Actually, Bi Qiaoan didn't mean to avoid him on purpose. Rather, she felt unsafe looking at the empty living room, so she went back to the relatively smaller bedroom.
After finishing her milk, the little baby stopped crying and started waving her little hands, making cooing noises. Bi Qiaoan kissed her little cheek, making her giggle.
Then they went outside and replaced An'an, handing Nuannuan over to her father.
Nuannuan's eyes immediately turned to curiosity as she stared at the face wearing a mask, with an urge to take it off.
But Shen Yanming wouldn't give her that chance. Not to mention her weak arms, the boils on her face would scare the child.
To distract her, Shen Yanming released a bicycle from his spatial storage. It was the one he had bought openly back in the early days of the apocalypse, before the country imposed purchase restrictions.
One of the main purposes of my return trip was to get my bicycle into the security team so that it wouldn't be so troublesome to travel between my classroom and dormitory.
Nuannuan looked at the bicycle that appeared out of thin air with curiosity, and was eager to try it out.
Seeing this, Shen Yanming picked her up and carried her to the bicycle. Looking at her excited little face, Shen Yanming said, "When Nuannuan grows up a bit more, she can ride a bicycle."
Nuan Nuan seemed not to understand, and continued to stretch her little arms forward. Shen Yanming had no choice but to move her closer to the bicycle and let her touch it.
After feeding An'an in the bedroom, Bi Qiaoan came out with her baby in her arms and saw this scene.
She wanted to laugh, but An'an also stretched out her little arms, so Bi Qiao'an couldn't laugh anymore.
"Come on over here, or your son will start crying!" Shen Yanming said with a smile.
"You're talking like he's not your son!" Bi Qiaoan glared at him. "This one should be taken back to the guard team, shouldn't it?"
"Yes, we can use things that have been approved before without worry."
"That's good."
The two played with An'an and Nuannuan for a while longer until they got sleepy, then they cuddled them and coaxed them to sleep.
After placing the two little ones in their safety carriers, it was time to return to the escort team.
Shen Yanming carried the bicycle and two storage boxes in front, while Bi Qiaoan followed behind carrying two safety baskets.
The two left their home together, took the elevator down to the parking lot, put their things in the car, and drove towards the security team.
However, when passing through the gate of Qingyu Community, they happened to run into Ji Kangyong, who was returning from working overtime.
Shen Yanming got out of the car and said a few words to him. Lao Ji then came over and greeted Bi Qiaoan. After that, the group parted ways.
There's nothing I can do; it's almost 3 a.m., and I really don't have much time to chat with them.
Shen Yanming and Bi Qiaoan restarted the car and slowly made their way to the escort team. Meanwhile, Ji Kangyong, who had already learned of the arrival of supplies, knocked on the door of Zhang Heping, who had just fallen asleep.
Sigh! Zhang Heping was so sleepy he wanted to curse, but when he saw the dark circles under Ji Kangyong's eyes, he couldn't say a word.
"Come in quickly!" Zhang Heping stepped aside at the doorway.
After Ji Kangyong came in, he asked, "What about the supplies that Lao Shen gave you? Give me half of them."
Zhang Heping curled his lip: "You're distributing supplies to me right after we met. It's only because it's you. If it were anyone else, I would have already taken them out with a scalpel."
Ji Kangyong smiled and said, "It's not yours, it was all prepared by Lao Shen."
“Yes, yes, we can’t take yours, here you go!” Zhang Heping divided the supplies into two equal parts, and pushed one part to Ji Kangyong.
Ji Kangyong nodded: "Okay, I'll take it when I leave."
"Huh? Aren't you leaving now?"
"I'm not leaving, I'm sleepy, I'll sleep here!"
Zhang Heping's eyes widened. "No way, you never sleep at other people's houses."
Ji Kangyong waved his hand and walked towards the bedroom: "Are you just a stranger? We're good brothers, what are we to each other!"
Zhang Heping stretched out his arm, but couldn't stop it. He cried out in his heart, "My sheets and blankets!"
