Chapter 839 Not Worried About Scarcity

Yu Huiyu was somewhat unhappy to see the group chatting as if no one else was around.

She stamped her foot, walked up to Shen Yanming, and said arrogantly, "Sir, I've taken a liking to your house. Tell me, what are your terms for giving it to me?"

Shen Yanming looked at Yu Huiyu as if she were a fool: "Young lady, I'm keeping my house for myself, how could I possibly give it up to someone else?"

"I am Yu Huiyu, the daughter of the deputy mayor of Hai City. I can give you anything you want. Just give me the house!"

Shen Yanming scoffed: "Now that the towns and cities are under the control of the guards, even if your father held a high position before, he has now been stripped of his post and power. What can you give me? Money, goods, or power?"

Yu Huiyu's face looked constipated, and she said somewhat guiltily, "No matter what, my dad has some connections. You're just a nobody here, right? As long as you give me the house, I'll have my dad ask Wen Chaohui to promote you."

Shen Yanming frowned and said, "Our Wenmeng official is the most upright and selfless, otherwise he wouldn't have kept the house until now. Besides, I don't mind being a lowly soldier at all. As the rank you hold, so too does your responsibility. I'm not ambitious; I just like living my own little life."

"How could you be like this!" Yu Huiyu was furious, but facing that handsome face that also seemed somewhat familiar, she couldn't bring herself to yell at him. Instead, she reacted with a touch of coquettishness.

Shen Yanming ignored her and went straight past her into the building. Bi Qiaoan followed closely behind. Li Sikai and the others, having watched the show to their hearts' content, also followed with smiles.

Yu Huiyu watched as a group of burly men entered the house she had her eye on, filled with intense jealousy and resentment. But she dared not make a move, fearing she would be beaten.

However, when my gaze fell upon Bi Qiaoan's face, I suddenly recalled a snowy day...

"You, you're that..."

Before Yu Huiyu could finish speaking, she heard a "bang" and was locked out of the door.

"The one I bumped into!" Yu Huiyu said, somewhat disappointed. She had searched for him for so long back then, but couldn't find him. Now that they had met, he didn't even recognize her.

Yu Huiyu glanced at the tightly closed door and thought to herself why her father hadn't become the second-in-command sooner, so that she could have used his power to investigate Shen Yanming sooner.

Yu Huiyu became increasingly unhappy as she thought about it, and finally left under the wary gaze of the young soldier.

Inside the room, Shen Yanming looked around at the messy space and felt a headache coming on.

There were quite a few things, but they were all scattered haphazardly, and many were broken. The floor was covered in water stains and mud, with clear footprints. Most of the appliances inside were waterlogged and unusable. The furniture and textiles were submerged; it looked disgusting.

"Although the main structure of our building survived, the glass and other parts were damaged by the sea. The security team repaired these after they returned. However, they didn't take care of the indoor sanitation. After all, this involves personal property."

Shen Yanming nodded: "Is there electricity?"

"No, there's no power plant left now. The solar panels on the roof were washed away too. Now, all we have is this building."

Where's the water?

“There’s a well in the yard, go and draw water from the well.”

"Well, besides a place to sleep, there's nothing else." Shen Yanming squeezed the sofa, finding it was already dry. "Where's Li Gangtie? Is he back? And Guo Tingshuo and the others?"

Qi Xili laughed: "I knew you'd ask them. Don't worry, they're all here, just a little injured. They came back a month earlier than you and are already back to normal work."

Shen Yanming laughed as well: "That's good, then I don't feel so depressed anymore."

Qi Xili patted the other person on the shoulder: "You guys pack up here first. I'll have someone bring you food tonight. But this is a one-time thing. Tomorrow, you'll have to work in exchange for meals."

"Okay. So, who should I contact to report?"

Qi Xili considered the other party's situation and said, "I'll report the situation first. You can go directly to the office building to find Officer Wen tomorrow."

Shen Yanming nodded: "Okay!"

After Qi Xili left, a group of people helped tidy up the house.

With permission, Li Sikai stored the household appliances into his spatial storage. His idea was that since they were all broken anyway, he might as well take them back to the capital, either to repair them or to keep them as souvenirs.

A massive flood destroyed much of human civilization; the missing factories, production lines, and technical personnel cannot be restored in a short time. Having such an example serves as a model for future efforts to restore production.

The furniture and everything else were wiped clean with water and rags by a group of people. The floor was also cleaned.

They took all the clothes, sheets, and blankets into their space. Li Sikai said it was inconvenient for them to fetch water, so they could wash them with well water while he was here.

Shen Yanming and Bi Qiaoan didn't refuse, and Zhang Heping and Ji Kangyong followed them in. The group went into the space to help, washing and cleaning, and also cooked a meal.

Although Qi Xili would have someone deliver dinner, it was obvious that it wouldn't be much. Li Sikai wanted to eat something better, so he didn't expect to get any from outside.

The group had only washed a few clothes when there was a knock at the door. Liang Huaxin came in carrying a large pot.

"This is from Captain Qi." Liang Huaxin put the things down and punched Shen Yanming in the chest: "Thank goodness, you're still alive."

Shen Yanming chuckled: "Brother, I'm incredibly lucky!"

After exchanging a few pleasantries, the two parted ways.

Li Sikai and his belongings were stored in his spatial storage. When the group opened it, they found it was vegetable porridge. It wasn't thick, but it wasn't thin either. It seemed they had a good supply of provisions, enough to sustain them for this kind of consumption.

"Come on, eat up. We made beggar's chicken today, consider it a welcome feast." The pheasants in Li Sikai's space had already multiplied to twenty-eight. Even so, they didn't dare to make more than one.

None of them stood on ceremony and quickly finished the beggar's chicken with their chopsticks.

After that, I continued washing clothes, then harvested rice, and then gathered wild vegetables and fruits...

The group worked until they were exhausted, then lay down on the ground to talk.

"Old Shen, I'll go with you to find Lord Wen tomorrow."

Shen Yanming was not surprised and nodded, "Okay."

Li Sikai smiled and said, "I guess I'll be leaving soon. To be honest, I'm quite reluctant to leave. I've had a lot of fun with you guys."

Shen Yanming turned to look at Li Sikai earnestly: "I will miss you. Take care."

"Okay." Li Sikai looked up at the sky: "When I leave, I'll leave you some rice. You and Qiao An should live well. And these two brothers, I hope our friendship lasts forever."

Zhang Heping and Ji Kangyong nodded: "Yes." They had a deep bond that transcended life and death, so mentioning separation was quite sad.

Li Sikai could foresee that this separation might mean they would never see each other again. He felt a pang of reluctance.

I don't know if I'm reluctant to leave people or reluctant to give up my freedom.

They chatted for a few more minutes, and then, exhausted and sleepy, they fell asleep soon after.
