Qin Linwei felt a tingling sensation from the soft, sweet voice. He glanced outside and, seeing that his old friend hadn't returned yet, whispered, "Then hurry up!"
Shu Miaomiao flipped through the documents even faster. However, she didn't focus on the process or the script at all; instead, she carefully memorized the names of the reporters participating in the live broadcast.
"Yin Jiaqi, Peng Baoxin..."
"Is it done?" Qin Linwei asked, wiping the sweat from his forehead.
"Alright, alright!" Shu Miaomiao repeated the two names again to make sure she wouldn't forget them before closing the file and putting it back in its place.
"Alright, honey, let's go back now."
"Um!"
The two of them didn't even think about waiting for Hou Hongzhang to come back and say hello. After all, he had already told them to leave, and if they stayed any longer, they would be laughed at.
But as soon as he stepped out of the office, before the door was even closed, he ran into Qin Yuewen.
Qin Yuewen noticed that no one was in the office, so she frowned and asked, "Who are you? How did you get out of Leader Hou's office?"
Just as Qin Linwei was about to speak, Shu Miaomiao pulled him back and said with a smile, "We are friends of Leader Hou, and I am the anchor Miaomiao."
Qin Yuewen nodded suspiciously, thinking to herself that this girl was really strange. It had been several years since the apocalypse, and there were still people calling themselves streamers.
"Where is the leader? Where did he go?" Qin Yuewen asked.
Shu Miaomiao smiled and said, "The leader went to the restroom and will be back soon. If you need anything, you can wait for him here. I have something to do, so I'll be leaving now."
After saying that, he pulled Qin Linwei and walked out.
Qin Yuewen sensed something was off about the two men, so she followed them at a respectful distance. As they passed the gatehouse, she stopped a guard and asked, "Are they really here to see Leader Hou?"
The guard nodded: "Yes, I've been sitting in the office for almost an hour."
Qin Yuewen waved her hand, relieved. She returned to the office door and saw Hou Hongzhang approaching from a distance.
Qin Yuewen greeted them with a smile, then subtly probed, "Boss, two people just came out of your office..."
"Oh, you've left, haven't you?" Hou Hongzhang interrupted.
Qin Yuewen nodded: "They said they are your friends."
"Hmm." Hou Hongzhang took the documents from Qin Yuewen's hand, without mentioning what had just happened. Qin Yuewen, being sensible, didn't ask any further questions.
After Shu Miaomiao left, she began to make her plans. In reality, she wasn't very capable; she just relied on Qin Linwei's influence to have people investigate Yin Jiaqi and Peng Baoxin.
The subordinates, seeing that the other party hadn't asked them to do anything illegal or disorderly, assumed it was just a personal grudge between the girls and didn't pay much attention, instead thoroughly investigating the two individuals' backgrounds.
After receiving the information, Shu Miaomiao smiled and dismissed the person. Then, carrying a bag of grain, she went to a certain street and found a few thugs.
"Let me tell you, you have to get things done properly. If anyone messes it up, I'll have my husband kick you all out of the base."
Although the thug didn't know who the woman in front of him was, he could tell from her clothes that she was no ordinary person.
"Also, those two are key members of the news department. The reason you kidnapped them was just to slow them down."
"You keep them detained for two hours. After two hours, release them. And don't use violence, don't hurt them, treat them politely. Otherwise, if anything happens, I can't protect you."
The thug was completely confused, thinking that people who usually asked them to do something either wanted to beat someone half to death or to do *that* to someone.
The girl in front of me is so gentle; it's truly one of a kind.
"Did you hear that? I'm not kidding you. You know how strict the base's security is. If you're just inviting people away as guests, the guards won't do anything to you, at most they'll give you a lecture. But if you hurt someone, not only will the guards deal with you, but I won't let you off the hook either."
My husband is...
Shu Miaomiao thought it best not to reveal her family's identity, so she changed the subject: "As long as you are obedient, I will give you a bag of grain after the matter is done."
The thug thought it was a simple matter with little risk, so he nodded and said, "Don't worry, I'll take care of it for you."
Shu Miaomiao smiled and left.
Her admonition wasn't out of any kindness. She simply didn't want things to escalate beyond control. She only wanted to achieve her own goal.
For the next few days, Shu Miaomiao stayed home quietly. Qin Linwei thought she had behaved herself since she didn't mention the live stream anymore.
Unexpectedly, on New Year's Day, Shu Miaomiao got up early, dressed herself up smartly, and went to the location of the live broadcast without even saying hello.
Yes, it's that small auditorium where we held the press conference last time.
Although the live broadcast didn't require many people, General Li still arranged a team of guards to protect Li Sikai's safety on site.
They stood upright around the small auditorium, watching the passersby warily.
Hu Yisheng and Li Sa arrived early. After setting up the equipment, they stood aside and went over the process.
But as time went on, they both became somewhat distracted.
Hu asked in a low voice, "Sasa, tell me, what's wrong with Jiaqi? It's already 8:30 and she still hasn't come."
Li Sa frowned as well: "I don't know either. Not to mention Jiaqi, even Xiaoxin isn't here. Could something have happened? We can't both of them be late."
"But what could possibly happen? They're not rich. And they live so far apart, how could they both have accidents at the same time?"
"Was it premeditated? But what was the motive?"
Just as the two were wondering about this, the security guard at the door stopped a well-dressed woman.
"Hello ma'am, this area is under lockdown today. Please leave," the guard said sternly.
"I... I'm here to participate in the live broadcast." Shu Miaomiao looked a little shy, as if she were timid. In reality, she felt guilty.
"Oh, then please show me your identification."
"I don't have any identification; I was assigned here temporarily."
"Sorry, we have not received any notification. Please leave."
Li Sikai, who was in the small auditorium, heard the commotion at the door and was about to go forward to ask when he saw Hu Yisheng and Li Sa frowning and saying, "Could something really have happened? Otherwise, Yin Jiaqi and Peng Baoxin wouldn't have been delayed until so late."
Li Sikai glanced at his watch and asked, "Do you have their contact information?"
Hu Yisheng and Li Sa shook their heads: "Captain Li, we are just ordinary people and don't have cell phones. We only know their residential address, nothing else."
Li Sikai beckoned, and a guard stepped forward. He said to the two men, "Tell me the address."
Then he said to the guard, "You go and meet them on the road."
Both sides nodded and exchanged information.
After the guard left, Hu Yisheng and Li Sa walked to the door and asked the unfamiliar woman, "Who are you?"
"I was assigned to be a live streamer by Hou Hongzhang."
