Chapter 24 Self-reliance leads to abundance

Oh right, and the seeds too. I remember we had some seeds at home that were said to be of poor quality and that the harvest wouldn't be good if planted. My grandmother asked me to bring them back. Where were they?

Qian Xiao felt it would be a pity not to plant crops on the large piece of land in her space. Although she was young and had never farmed before, she knew the process. She had learned how to do it by watching it all day long.

Besides, isn't it said that space is special, and that as long as you sow a handful of seeds, they will bear fruit?

Gu Gu Qiu Qiu put everything he could think of into his space. Qian Xiao even stood at the door of the warehouse and took a look. Good, as long as no one counts, no one will notice that something is missing.

Taking advantage of the fact that no one was home, Qian Xiao quickly slipped back to his room, assumed a sleeping position, and entered the space with his spiritual body, intending to try planting some crops to see if it was possible to grow crops here.

Standing in the space looking at the grass in front of her, Qian Xiao got into position, wanting to try whether she could plant crops with her mind. Didn't the novels say that as long as you think about the seeds, you can plant them by yourself, and if you think about the crops, you can harvest them by yourself? What if she could do it too?

After keeping his eyes closed for a while, Qian Xiao opened one eye and looked at the grass in front of him. Good, nothing had changed.

She said she wasn't destined for such a splendid life, so she decided to do it herself. Luckily, she was strong, otherwise, with her small frame, she wouldn't even be as tall as the hoe, and she wouldn't be able to farm.

Qian Xiao resignedly picked up the hoe. To be honest, holding the hoe with her mental power felt almost the same as holding it with real power. Qian Xiao lowered her head and began to dig the ground. If someone hadn't been pulling her from outside, she could have dug all the ground in one go.

Having a lot of strength is one of the advantages; you can do any job like it's nothing. Of course, it's tiring, but farming is always tiring.

Qian Xiao opened her eyes and saw her grandfather's face: "Grandpa, what brings you here?" The old man had never been into her room before.

The old man turned his head and glanced at the yard before speaking softly, "Erdan, get up quickly, Grandpa will take you to see something."

"What are you looking at?" She was in a hurry to plant the crops.

"Shh, keep your voice down. Get up and come with me. You'll know what it is when we get there. This is a secret between the two of us. Don't tell anyone else, understand?"

Qian Xiaomeng nodded. It was the first time she had ever seen her grandfather so mysterious. The old man was usually very precious and rarely spoke.

The father and son left the house and headed towards the back mountain, but the grandfather had no intention of going into the mountain. Instead, he followed the path at the foot of the back mountain westward. There was another mountain to the west, but it was quite far away and no one usually went there.

Who would go that far just for some firewood? Even if they carried it back, it would be tiring, wouldn't it?

"Grandpa, what are we going to do? Don't we need to bring some chores?" Nobody goes into the mountains empty-handed. At least bring a machete so you can use it as a weapon if you encounter danger.

The old man looked around and said, "Don't speak, or someone will see the two of us."

Look at what you've done, old man! Anyone who didn't know better would think we were underground party members making a meeting. How come she never noticed this side of her grandfather?

"Grandpa, are you planning to sell me off with me? Aren't you afraid Grandma will find out?" With her temper, if Grandma knew that her grandpa was selling her off, she would probably chop him up with a knife.

The old man tapped Qian Xiao with his pipe: "Nonsense, why would I sell my perfectly good granddaughter? It's not like we can't afford to raise her. Wait, kid, you've got me all confused. Your grandpa is not the kind of person who would sell his granddaughter."

"You brat, hurry up and don't ask any more questions. You'll find out when we get there."

The Northeast region has a lot of land and mountains. For example, there are several mountains behind their village. However, the nearest mountain is enough to support the population of the village, and few people go to the other mountains.

Upon reaching the foot of West Mountain, the old man turned back to look at his granddaughter. Seeing that she looked alright, he said, "Do you want to rest for a while, or should we go straight up the mountain?"

Qian Xiao pulled her grandfather along, saying, "Grandpa, you're being too hasty. Not many people come to West Mountain on weekdays. Who knows what might be inside? Do you think it'll be safe for us to go in empty-handed?"

"How about we go back today and come back to the mountains tomorrow with our chores? What do you think?" She's fine; she can even climb trees if there's any danger. But can her old man, with his frail arms and legs, still climb trees?

The old man patted his granddaughter's bald head: "Don't worry, come with me. It's safe inside. We won't go deep into the area. We'll be there in no time."

Qian Xiao thought for a moment that he couldn't beat them with his own skills, but he should be able to escape with his grandfather without too much trouble, right? Well, let's go in and take a look first, and if it doesn't work out, we can just come out.

"Alright, please lead the way, let's go in now."

The old man led the way into the mountains for a short while before turning to one side and not venturing any deeper. The path wasn't easy to walk on, but it was clear that it was a path that people used frequently, otherwise there would never have been an extra path.

The old man only turned the corner after walking for most of the day. If no one had led him, probably no one would have been curious enough to walk in and take a look. The key point is that there was no road at all!

After walking for nearly half an hour through clumps of dry grass taller than Qian Xiao, the grandfather and grandson turned a corner again, and suddenly the view opened up before them. Qian Xiao stared in disbelief at everything in front of him.

Whose land was cultivated here? It looks quite large, and there are stubble marks on it, so it looks like it was just harvested.

"Grandpa, why is there still farmland here? Did we secretly cultivate it?"

The old man's eyes crinkled with laughter: "My granddaughter is so clever, she guessed it right away. That's right, our family grows the extra crops here every year. These crops don't need to be paid to the government; they all belong to us."

“I see there’s more land here than in the fields outside our house. Where do we put all the grain?”

She didn't remember her second and third uncles going out often, so it was impossible for them to sell the grain. Where would they have been stored? There wasn't that much grain at home.

Her ears twitched: "Why can I hear the sound of running water? Is there a water source here?" She had just been thinking, "Watering so much land must be exhausting."

The old man beckoned Qian Xiao to follow him. After walking less than a kilometer, they saw a stream. The water was clearly flowing down from the mountain. The stream was not wide, but the current was quite rapid. It was definitely enough for irrigating the land.

The old man still looked smug. He then walked in the opposite direction with his hands behind his back. Qian Xiao looked at a place that looked like a cliff not far ahead. She carefully leaned over and took a look at the bottom.
