Chapter 4: Demon Slayer

Chapter 4: Demon Slayer

In the dilapidated little temple, the bonfire crackled from time to time, and the warm flames made the girl's face rosy.

A young man sat not far from the campfire, wiping the sword in his hand carefully and attentively.

Xiao Yaya would steal glances at the young man from time to time. In this tense environment where one could lose one's life at any time, the young man's presence made her feel a little comforted.

There is a hint of vicissitudes in Lai Yang's brows, his appearance reveals a masculine air, and his temperament is calm and profound.

Looking at Lai Yang's profile, Xiao Yaya's heart rate seemed to speed up.

Even at such a dangerous moment, her eyes were involuntarily attracted to it.

She suddenly remembered that she had never been in love or held a boy's hand since she was a child.

She was about to die without experiencing so many things in her life, and she suddenly felt a little regretful.

"What's your name?" Xiao Yaya turned to look at Lai Yang and asked in a low voice.

"Laiyang."

"My last name is Xiao, Xiao Yaya, and everyone in the village calls me Yaya."

Xiao Yaya thought for a moment and continued to ask, "Where are you from?"

"A small town in the east."

"Is it far?"

"It's quite far."

"Where are you going next?"

"I don't know. I'll just take it one step at a time and walk around to have a look."

"You are holding a sword. Are you a warrior? I heard from the villagers that warriors are very powerful."

“I guess so.”

"Then can you defeat the wolf demon?" Xiao Yaya's eyes showed a hint of expectation, and then dimmed as if she remembered something. "I'm afraid it's difficult. The villagers said that the wolf demon has become a spirit. It is difficult for ordinary warriors to deal with it. The strongest uncles in the village can't defeat it together. It's too powerful."

Lai Yang remained silent, the transparent sword blade illuminating half of his face.

"Don't worry, we'll be fine."

Xiao Yaya just took it as the other party's comfort. She showed a strong smile on her face, supported her hands behind her back, and leaned back slightly to look at the dilapidated ceiling.

"Uncle, are you married?"

Uncle…

Do I look so young?

Lai Yang looked at his chin through the sword. He had grown a lot of stubble without noticing, which really made him look old.

"No, but I once had a sweetheart, and I wanted to marry her in the future and live a peaceful and stable life together." Lai Yang's tone was a little sad.

"Why? She ran away with another man and doesn't want you anymore? Or are you a heartless man?" Xiao Yaya's interest was immediately piqued. Her curious expression and fiery eyes were full of gossip.

It turns out that liking gossip is human nature, especially for women.

"She is dead. She was killed by someone from my town." Lai Yang said calmly.

Hearing this, Xiao Yaya's face froze, and she said with an apologetic expression: "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to bring up your sad story."

Lai Yang shook his head.

The small temple suddenly became quiet, with only the crackling of the bonfire and the sound of rain outside.

The bean-sized raindrops hit the eaves and leaves fiercely, making a continuous crisp sound.

Xiao Yaya looked at the heavy rain outside the small temple. She wished the rain would continue.

In that case, maybe the man-eating wolf demon wouldn't appear, and she could continue to live.

But at the same time, she knew in her heart that it was just her wishful thinking. The heavy rain would stop sooner or later, and she would die sooner or later.

For the safety of the village, and the fact that the village would take care of her family after her death, she had repaid her parents and the village for raising her, and her death was a worthy one.

"Uncle, can I ask you a favor?" Xiao Yaya suddenly turned to look at Lai Yang, her little hands clenched tightly.

Lai Yang put the sword back into the scabbard and looked at Xiao Yaya: "What's the matter?"

Meeting Lai Yang's gaze, Xiao Yaya became shy and took a few deep breaths: "That is... that... can you please hug me since I'm about to die?"

Lai Yang was slightly stunned, and his expression became a little strange.

This girl looks quite introverted, but her personality seems unexpectedly bold?

"It's not...that...it's just...I have never been hugged by any other man except my father since I was a child. I often see other people in the village hugging each other and kissing. Before I die, I also want to experience what it feels like to be hugged by another man." Xiao Yaya explained in a panicked tone, her cheeks flushed.

Lai Yang noticed Xiao Yaya's fingertips that were clenched white due to nervousness, and sighed in his heart.

Even adult men may not be brave enough to face death alone, but she, a girl, can face the fear and pressure of death alone, which shows how strong her character is.

However, no matter how strong a person appears on the surface, he or she has a fragile and soft side inside.

Lai Yang stood up and walked towards Xiao Yaya, hugged her in his arms, and put one hand on her head and stroked it gently.

Feeling the other person's solid and reliable chest, and the warm hand caressing her head, her nerves suddenly tensed up, and tears flowed uncontrollably like broken strings.

"Wuwuwu...I'm sorry...wuwuwu...I can't stop crying..."

"Okay, cry if you want to." Lai Yang didn't care and said gently.

"I don't want to die... Uncle Wuwu... I really don't want to die Wuwu..." Xiao Yaya couldn't help but broke down and cried.

"Yes, I know."

"I don't want my brother to die either... I'm the only one at home... I'm the only one who can do it... But I really don't want to... Save me... Someone please save me..."

After a while, perhaps because she had been under too much pressure, her tense nerves relaxed after all of it was released at once, and she actually fell asleep in Lai Yang's arms.

Lai Yang did not wake up Xiao Yaya, but slowly let her head rest on his thigh and slept in a side-lying position. He held the sword in his right hand and closed his eyes to rest.

The sound of rain outside the dilapidated temple gradually subsided.

The rain fell on the ground along the eaves, making a dripping sound.

After a heavy rain, the world seemed brand new and the air became much fresher.

rustle…

Lai Yang slowly opened his eyes. He heard something huge and dangerous approaching outside the small temple, and there was a foul and unpleasant smell in the air.

He moved Xiao Yaya's head away, holding his sword, and slowly walked out of the dilapidated little temple, standing in front of the temple gate like a guardian god.

After a while, a pair of dark green wolf eyes appeared in the darkness, looking at the people in front of the small temple with brutal and cruel eyes.

Lai Yang looked over when he heard the voice and was slightly startled.

I saw a giant wolf over two meters tall, with a sturdy and huge body, sharp claws and teeth, and covered with black and gray spiky hair. It walked like a human and slowly emerged from the woods, exuding a ferocious and dangerous aura.

The moment he saw the wolf demon, Lai Yang clenched the sword in his hand. He finally understood why several strong men from the village could not do anything to it even if they attacked it together.

Lai Yang showed no fear, raised his sword and pointed it at the wolf demon, saying indifferently:

"Tonight, I will use the sword in my hand to slay the demon."
