Whether Sakazuki succeeds or fails doesn't really affect the Five Elders much. The ones who have objections are the member states. The World Conference is the stage for these member states to show their abilities, especially the newly appointed King of Conquerors, David. He was extremely excited when he heard the news of the change of marshal. He is the head of the Heavenly Gold, has great strength, and was personally chosen by Kuro. Of course, he would want Kuro to take that position.
The member states are important to the world government because they are the main taxpayers, and the funds for naval activities and celestial gold are all collected from them.
The naval expedition that began two years ago cost the member states a lot of money. Now that the war is at a stalemate and their home base is in trouble, the member states are naturally anxious.
Once overthrown, they won't even pay money. If they don't pay money, how can they maintain the navy's operating expenses? How can they pay the "heavenly gold" (a metaphor for financial support)?
Therefore, the opinions of the member states of the World Government are certainly important; otherwise, there wouldn't be a World Conference held every four years. They decide the direction of the world during the conference. Even the selection of the Fleet Admiral was something they had previously chosen—Sakazuki. Although they can't completely decide, there is still some debate involved.
Now that they favor Kuro and Sakazuki has lost, this situation makes perfect sense.
As for what they were really interested in, it was Shirahoshi.
They hadn't expected that Poseidon, the sea god, was actually a mermaid princess. They initially thought it was just a weapon, but now it seemed it was more than that.
If pirates manage to take control of the seas, then the oceans are truly doomed.
The conflict must be resolved quickly before it occurs, and ideally, the parties involved should be dealt with!
"Go and prepare, your inauguration ceremony will be coming soon," said the long-bearded old man.
Kuro took a deep breath. "We can discuss this. Sakazuki can't back down, but I'll resolve the war quickly, taking care of both the Straw Hats and Teach in one go, how about that?"
The curly-haired old man said calmly, "This is what you should do. Alright, there's no dispute about this. I understand your difficulties, but this is an order. That's it, step back."
Seeing that the old men were no longer looking at him, Kuro knew there was no room for negotiation. After a moment of silence, he turned and left.
Only after Kuro's figure disappeared did the old men exchange another glance.
"Why don't you want to be a marshal..." the red-skinned old man murmured.
"It's probably because he doesn't want to be criticized. This guy is even more protective of his reputation than we are," the long-bearded old man said. "Sakazuki was injured and defeated. He came back as a marshal, so of course he'll leave a bad impression on others."
“But this is our decision, and he will handle it himself. In comparison, I am looking forward to seeing how quickly he resolves this war,” the curly-haired old man said.
"Poseidon...has he been born yet?"
The old man with the map sighed: "The balance of the world has long been lost. These 'sources of fire' that have plunged the world into chaos are burning more fiercely than one another. Put out the fires; that is our main task."
...
"Fuck it! Fuck it! Fuck it!"
After leaving the realm of power, Kuro gritted his teeth and cursed as he walked.
He just came to question the newspaper, and ended up being appointed as a marshal...
Sakazuki was only a marshal for a few years!
Huh? It's changed already?!
They keep saying no, no, completely disregarding whether the other person can handle it or not...
Kuro, seething with anger, continued walking forward.
"Huh? What are you doing here?"
Just then, a sound suddenly came from the side.
Kuro turned his head and saw Lowe standing at the other end.
"Hey, what are you doing running to Mary Geoise every day? You're an admiral, not a marshal, right?" Lowe asked curiously.
He was genuinely curious. Regardless of his hidden identity, he was just an admiral on the surface, not a naval admiral. How could he freely enter and leave Mary Geoise as if it were his home?
"None of your business!"
Kuro snapped, "If you have nothing better to do, think about how to hold a meaningful meeting, like getting everyone together to decide not to replace the Fleet Admiral!"
"Oh? You know that..."
Lowe paused for a moment, then chuckled and said, "When this matter was proposed, I supported it. It's better for you to be the marshal than for someone I don't know to be the marshal. Everyone trusts you, and it will also be beneficial for the future."
Kuro paused, then frowned. "You were involved too? Who else?"
"master!!"
Before he could confirm, a sincere and excited voice rang out behind Lowe, "Master, you've arrived!"
That's David.
"I told you not to call me 'Master'... Wait, you're not involved in this too, are you?" Kuro's expression was unfriendly.
"What?" David was still a little confused.
"You also participated in the Marshal's proposal?" Kuro asked.
"I was not involved."
These words finally made Kuro breathe a sigh of relief, but then Lowe's next words made Kuro's breath catch in his throat.
“He was the main initiator,” Lowe said.
"You, you all..."
Kuro trembled as he pointed his index finger at them, unable to utter a single word for a long time.
"Surprised? Unexpected?" Luo Wei grinned, revealing a set of white teeth. "Hey, so you've become a marshal! Remember to get my sister a general candidate. I'm not counting on her for a general; I can't estimate her strength. Besides, a little girl becoming a general would mean a lot of fighting and killing. It's much more comfortable to be a general candidate."
