Chapter 209 What Happened to the Promised Generosity?

"Kurokuro, that's it, cranberry juice."

Once on the street, Lida suddenly grabbed Kuro and pointed excitedly at a shop, saying, "That stuff tastes really good."

You mean scarlet berry syrup?

The lieutenant then said, "It is indeed a famous drink here. If you haven't been here before, you can give it a try."

"Is it really that good? Chloe, one glass each, it's on me, you go pay."

Kuro glanced at the dozens of marines and spoke to Kuro.

Why should I pay when you're treating...?

Kro twitched the corner of his mouth, and a black line appeared on his forehead.

Although Kuro is in charge of the finances as the butler, his words clearly didn't mean that; he was actually telling him to pay for it himself.

But I couldn't refuse...

That's because he's someone else's direct subordinate.

With a sigh, Kro led some navy personnel to a shop to buy drinks. Before long, the group returned, each carrying a drink in their hand.

This drink costs only 500 berries a cup, which is surprisingly cheap, especially since the cup comes with it.

The cup is a transparent glass, and it is very beautiful. Just based on the pattern on it, it would be worth a lot of money if sold.

Inside the glass was a thick, blood-like liquid, swaying gently but not sticking to the glass; it looked quite appealing.

Kuro stubbed out his cigar, took a sip through the straw, and his eyes widened instantly.

"It tastes pretty good..."

"Right?"

Lida smiled contentedly, "It's been so long since I've had this. I really miss it..."

"Okay, when we get back, we'll have someone buy a lot more to store."

Kuro said to the captain, "Remember this."

"yes!"

The captain saluted.

They were naturally happy to have such a good thing. The other sailors were all overjoyed when they heard this. This stuff tasted great and was excellent as a way to relieve the boredom of sailing.

The group continued forward, with Kuro sipping his drink while observing the local residents.

Their clothes were very monotonous, either black or white. The men wore black robes and the women wore white robes. They either held a book in their hands or wore a star-like ornament around their necks. Every now and then, someone would hold up the ornament and mutter incantations.

"They are praying."

Seeing Kuro's curious expression, the lieutenant explained, "The people here have a custom of prayer. Whenever they feel they need to or are not feeling well, they will pray, which helps them maintain a normal mood."

Kuro smiled. "Pretty interesting."

Due to variations in the magnetic field, the Grand Line is almost entirely isolated from each island, resulting in differences in the level of technology and local customs of each island.

It's not surprising anymore; after all, cannibals still exist.

Just as Kuro was observing the people here, a man dressed in a black robe came towards him and bumped into him shoulder to shoulder.

Not only him, but as he passed by, he bumped into the shoulders of several Marines behind Kuro.

"Hey, watch where you're going."

The navy officer behind immediately turned around and shouted.

The man in the black robe ignored everyone and continued walking forward, soon disappearing into the crowd.

"This guy... he hit someone, doesn't he even apologize?!"

"Alright, alright, you guys were just bumped into, it's nothing."

Kuro stopped the Marine who was about to give chase, frowning as he said, "It's not like I'm trying to harm you, it's just a minor collision. How can you Marines act like this? Be magnanimous, you know? Look at me, I'm very magnanimous..."

Before he could finish speaking, he suddenly felt the cup in his hand wobbling. Looking down, he saw the blood-like liquid inside suddenly surge and transform into a small, terrifying head.

This head had no hair, only facial features resembling outlines. At this moment, it was staring at Kuro with its mouth wide open, rising from the cup as if to bite him.

Bang!

Kuro unconsciously used force, crushing the glass along with the strange little figure.

"What is that?!"

At the same time, the marines who had been bumped by the man in black robes had all changed their appearance. Although they were still wearing marine uniforms, their faces had been transformed into those without any specific features or hair. They were now staring at Kuro with their mouths wide open, letting out a muffled roar.

They reached out their hands, like zombies, as if to attack Kuro.

This sudden change made his pupils shrink.

"Kuro, Kuro?"

Suddenly, a voice rang out, and his vision changed again, revealing the navy men looking at him with puzzled expressions.

Lida looked up at him. "What's wrong? Are you tired of drinking? Even if you are, don't just smash the cup like that."

Kuro lowered his head; his terrifying face was gone, replaced only by shards of glass he had crushed and juice dripping from his fingers onto the ground.

"Are you kidding me?"

Kuro's expression darkened, his pupils turned red, and he activated his Observation Haki, enveloping the entire town.

"Kuro?" Lida asked quickly when she noticed that Kuro's expression was not right.

"Wait here, I'll go and bring that impolite person back."

Kuro gritted his teeth and said something, then his figure vanished in a flash.

"this..."

The navy officer standing nearby stared blankly at the shards of glass on the ground, looking rather odd.

What happened to your promised generosity?

...

The man in black robes wandered through the alleyways until he reached a deserted spot. He stood motionless against the wall in front of him, his back to the wall.

"Hehehe, Absolun, don't always turn your back to me when you ask me to meet you, it's scary."
