Chapter 26 The Help of Kind People

The navy began gathering intelligence, while Kuro led his men on a tour, mainly Rita.

"Golden apple, golden apple, the golden apple that grants immortality with just one bite."

At the stall, a vendor was hawking apples.

However, these three wouldn't believe it. Even if Lida looks young, she is someone who has been making a living since she was eight years old, so she certainly has experience.

However, she did want to eat the regular fruit from the stall.

"Kuro, give me money, I want to buy food."

Lida stretched out her little hand and looked at Kuro.

"Will you give me money?"

Kuro was taken aback, then his eyes widened. "Where's your money, Lida?"

"I've spent it all."

"Hmm?" Kuro stared at Lida.

“Mm.” Lida nodded.

After a while, Kuro's voice, noticeably louder, rang out from the crowd.

"You've spent almost ten million Berries?!"

Kuro exclaimed incredulously, "That's ten million! Do you even know what ten million means?!"

Seeing that Lida was putting on a pitiful look and not answering, Kuro had no choice but to look at Chloe and ask, "What's wrong?"

"Well, Miss Lida tends to just drop the money and take whatever she wants, regardless of the amount, and it's usually more than its original value. So..."

It was difficult for Kro.

Lida has a big appetite and spends money extravagantly. Kuro had already overestimated Lida, but he still underestimated her.

Ten million! The materials for the Treasure Tree Adam only cost about one hundred million. You've consumed one-tenth of the cost of a good ship in just a few days.

"Why did you eat the 'Energy Fruit'? You should have eaten the Gluttony Fruit. If you didn't eat a fruit, I'll go kill Wapol right now and find you a fruit to eat."

Kuro gritted his teeth and said bitterly.

What are you going to eat? You big eater, you have to eat everything to save money, right?

Lida tugged at Kuro's trouser leg, pouting, "Kuro, I'm hungry, give me money."

Kuro slapped his forehead: "Where would I get any money? I gave my little savings to the commoners in Loguetown. I thought you had enough on you, so I didn't keep any money for yourself. Sorry, I underestimated you."

"What should I do? I'm hungry."

Lida rolled her eyes and suggested, "How about we dine and dash?"

Kro adjusted his glasses, looking somewhat eager to try.

"You're the Navy, you're the Navy! You should know shame, don't you understand?!" Kuro almost roared.

"That's enough, come with me."

Kuro sighed and turned to walk in another direction.

"Where to?" Lida asked curiously.

"Find a kind person to give us money!"

"Kind person? Where? Wait for me!"

Lida followed.

...

In this world, there is one thing that is legal: gangs.

Kuro has no money, but the gang does. And since the gang is so ethical, they'll definitely 'help' them.

Besides the gangs, there is another force in Alabasta that also exists in this small port city.

"Before that, change your clothes. If you wear a navy uniform, those people won't dare to make a move."

Kuro entered a clothing store and changed into a set of distinctive desert attire, as did the other two.

Of all the money Kro paid, he currently has some savings.

After changing their clothes, Kuro led the two of them around, especially into the alleys.

His Observation Haki, like Lida's, has a relatively wide range, so sensing the city wasn't a problem. The key issue was that their strength and aura were similar, making it impossible to pinpoint the exact location.

This isn't like the hostage situation in Loguetown, where people gather together, and Kuro doesn't have the Observation Haki that Linlin possesses.

He could only search through alleys, like looking for rats. Alleys are where bad people and rats often appear, so there were bound to be some. Besides, with Lida around, he wasn't worried about not catching any fish.

Such a lovely child would naturally attract generous "kind-hearted people".

"Hey, hey, hey, stop right there."

After walking through several alleys, Kuro had just entered a new alley when he heard voices behind him. Several burly men rushed out from the entrance and surrounded the alley. A tall, strong man approached first, grinning maliciously:

"Pay some money."

"Look, here they come, kind folks," Kuro said, pointing at them.

Is this the 'kind person' you were talking about?

Lida gave Kuro a disdainful look. "Isn't this just robbery?"

"Yes, I'm going to rob it!"

The burly man thought they were talking about him and laughed even louder: "You're outsiders, aren't you? Let us teach you the rules here. Might makes right!"

“I quite like these rules too.” Kuro nodded. “Kuro.”

Kro pursed his lips helplessly, knowing that calling him would never bring good news.

However, these low-level thugs...

Without even using any weapons, Kro quickly dispatched a dozen or so men, leaving them all lying on the ground.

Lida sat on someone's back, slipped a gold ring that was clearly larger than her fingers onto her hand, then put it in her pocket and counted the money.

"Kuro, it's less than 100,000, that's so little," Lida complained.

“Shut up! It’s all because of you, otherwise would we need ‘friendly assistance’?” Kuro roared.

"If one isn't enough, just switch to a few more."

Kuro glanced at the person who was rolling their eyes and seemed oblivious, and said, "Thanks for your help. I'll come back to you next time."

Then, the group continued to wander around the city.

There are actually quite a few kind people like the one we just met in this city. After wandering around a few more alleys, Kuro and his friends encountered even more people. The more money they donated, the greater the chance that Kuro would run into a kind person.
