Chapter 8

Chapter 8

Qiao Yan tossed and turned all night and ended up not getting enough sleep (less than three hours). Fortunately, there weren't any heavy material to cover in today's class.

When Qiao Yan entered the classroom, she was surprised to find that few people were talking. It was the first time in her teaching career that she felt so relaxed. She was still a little reluctant to leave when the get out of class ended.

She glanced at her watch; it would be lunchtime in half an hour.

Just then, she straightened her clothes, got into the car, sent a command to go home, and sat in the back seat to catch up on sleep.

She hadn't even closed her eyes for two minutes when the terminal started beeping again. She picked it up and saw that the message was from Xiao Lu.

"Master, our little guest Nan Shuyin is crying."

Qiao Yan resignedly activated Xiao Lu's visual and auditory sensory input. Nan Shuyin was sitting on the bed sobbing. The sound she made wasn't loud, but Xiao Lu had never seen her in any negative emotions at home.

Xiao Lu's face is like a screen, and right now, Qiao Yan is on it.

"Shuyin," Qiao Yan called to her, seeing her turn her head. "What happened?"

Nan Shuyin sat on the bed. Because of her leg injury, her brother wouldn't let her get out of bed. Also, because of her rib problem, she should actually be lying down more often, but she didn't feel much pain and didn't really want to lie down all the time.

"Sister." Nan Shuyin grabbed the teddy bear's fluffy arm, "Brother went out."

"He'll be back soon," Qiao Yan comforted her. "What's making you sad?"

“Because, because he can’t always come back quickly,” Nan Shuyin murmured. “I’m scared.”

She blinked her bright eyes, looking at Qiao Yan on the screen, seeking her help.

Qiao Yan said gently, "Shuyin, why don't you lie down first? I'll be home soon, and I'll help you find your brother."

Nan Shuyin was somewhat reluctant, but she nodded nonetheless.

Xiao Lu knew that the little guest had several fractures, so she used a robotic arm to slowly help her lie down.

Nan Yayin went out? To buy groceries? Didn't he just bring a bunch over?

As soon as Qiao Yan got home, she went to the guest room on the second floor to check on Nan Shuyin's condition. After confirming that she was not in pain from sitting, she asked Xiao Lu to stay in the room with the little one.

According to the surveillance footage, Nan Yayin left at 10 o'clock. Qiao Yan checked his watch and it was already 11 o'clock.

An hour has passed.

The Suzuran Ward is located in a relatively remote area. If you want to take the long-distance hovercar to the city center, you need to walk for a while. There is only one park nearby where you can take a walk. Apart from that, there are no supermarkets or entertainment venues for you to enjoy. This area is just an ordinary residential area.

Nan Ya Yin certainly wouldn't leave his sister in an unfamiliar place for too long. Where could he go?

The security camera at Qiao Yan's door only recorded him leaving the house and walking towards the gate of the residential area, but he did not return for an hour afterward.

The robot at the door greeted her, "Welcome home."

Qiao Yan used the user's access control to retrieve his memories from an hour ago, and sure enough, he saw Nan Ya Yin leaving through the main gate without taking anything with her. She looked around as if she was looking for someone.

Qiao Yan tried calling him but couldn't get through. The terminal kept playing the waiting tone. Thinking of Nan Shuyin's crying face, she became anxious. Could something have really happened? When she first saw him, although he covered his face with flour, there were bruises on his face.

The security measures in Suzuran Ward are very good; she had compared them when she bought the house a few years ago. But no matter how much you guard against it, you can't guard against those with malicious intent. There are so many scams targeting Omegas that it's impossible to guard against them all, and this isn't the first time she's heard of human trafficking or kidnapping.

Qiao Yan repeatedly tucked her stray hair behind her ears, and after clearly seeing Nan Yayin disappear at the entrance of the ecological park, she hurriedly walked in that direction.

Logically, since she said she was taking Nan Shuyin to see a doctor today, he shouldn't have been gone for half a day.

Qiao Yan frowned. He had to tell Xiao Lu first, no matter what. What if something happened if he went out rashly?

The ecological park was deserted on a weekday; the lush vegetation made it feel instinctively eerie.

Qiao Yan quickened her pace; it was difficult to detect the scent of pheromones in such a place.

Suddenly she heard a mournful cry. Qiao Yan was startled and quickly went toward the source of the sound.

The closer you are, the clearer the sound will be.

"Speak! Who told you I was here!"

Qiao Yan stepped into a grove of trees.

"If you don't tell me, I'll bury you right here!"

Qiao Yan peeked over and realized that the voice sounded very familiar.

"Is it Nanze?!"

Nan Yayin swung her fists without any mercy or compassion, smashing them again and again into the face of the person she had grabbed.

"Me! I came here on my own." The man grabbed Nan Ya Yin's hand and tried to pull himself away, but Nan Ya Yin's grip was too strong, and he couldn't break free no matter what he did.

"How could you keep up with a car going that fast?" Nan Ya Yin threw him to the ground, probably kicking him because she was tired of hitting him. "You're still lying!"

Qiao Yan was afraid he would beat someone to death, so he quickly came out and pulled him away. Nan Ya Yin felt someone grabbing him and thought he had accomplices struggling desperately, so Qiao Yan quickly said, "It's me."

Nan Yayin breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing Qiao Yan's voice, but immediately asked, "Why are you here?"

"You would have killed someone if we weren't here." Qiao Yan released his hand to let him calm down.

"He deserved to die," Nan Ya Yin said angrily. "Don't you want to know how he followed me here?"

Qiao Yan wanted to know, but torture to extract confessions is illegal. "I've already called the police. Don't worry, there's always a way."

Nan Yayin glanced at her, snorted, and turned away.

Qiao Yan slept for less than three hours, attended classes until 10:30 in the morning, and now has to deal with the thug incident.

Some were exhausted.

When the police arrived, Qiao Yan only confessed that the man had trespassed into the Linglan District. After filing the report, the police took the man away.

When Qiao Yan returned home, the smell of sage in the house eased her anxieties somewhat.

Xiao Lu had already cooked lunch, and Nan Ya Yin was sitting in her seat waiting for her.

"Go to the hospital this afternoon. First, deal with your account. The first time you register, you need to bring your ID to handle it in person. After that, it won't be so troublesome." Qiao Yan sat opposite him. "In the future, if you encounter something like this, at least tell Xiao Lu."

Nan Ya Yin watched her mouth open and close, slowly nodding, but she couldn't understand what she was saying at all. She had only released her pheromones because she saw that the other woman was not in a good state, but who knew that the other woman would not give her any face at all. She released hers just like he did, without knowing the consequences.

Nan Yayin pressed her slightly weak right hand. How could she not feel it? How could she not feel it?

Alpha pheromones are so domineering that anyone even slightly weaker than her has to secretly wish to submit.

His previously unseen vulnerability and helplessness seemed to be brought to their peak at this moment, until he said with difficulty, "Can you control your pheromones?"

Qiao Yan seemed to wake up from a dream. She touched the back of her neck, and the sweet scent of cream finally dissipated. What was infuriating was that Nan Yayin realized that she was still chasing after the fading pheromones.

Shameful behavior.

He pinched his right hand and chose to carry the plate upstairs to the second floor.

Qiao Yan touched the back of her neck, feeling somewhat embarrassed. She had been unable to control her pheromones for quite some time, and she had received many complaints from students who thought she was deliberately blocking them.

It was all accidental, and even without using pheromones, I couldn't beat her.

Thinking about it this way, this behavior is quite a bit of harassment when dealing with an Omega.

Although Qiao Yan felt a little apologetic, he ultimately said nothing until the two of them leaned against the hospital wall and waited for Nan Shuyin's test results.

“We’ve already filmed it once in the old town, why do we need to film it again?” Nan Yayin asked, looking at the child lying on the machine through the glass.

“The equipment in the old city area may be outdated, and besides, most of the equipment inside is retired models, so we can’t necessarily check every part.” Qiao Yan was worried that he was afraid Nan Shuyin would commit some crime again. “Don’t worry too much, it’s just a more comprehensive check.”

Nan Yayin leaned against the wall, turned her head to look at Qiao Yan, her focused expression suggesting that she was genuinely concerned about someone, even though they had nothing to do with each other.

"Thank you." In his darkest days, this was the only sincere thing he ever said.

Qiao Yan was somewhat flattered and thought she was hallucinating. "You're welcome."

She was fine when she didn't speak, but as soon as she spoke, Nan Ya Yin was reminded of her creamy scent. "Can't you control your pheromones?"

"Hmm? It's popping up again?" Qiao Yan touched the back of her neck. "I can't really smell my own pheromones, I'm not sensitive to that."

"Why can't you realize it?" Nan Yayin frowned.

Qiao Yan thought of the past, of battlefields or the harsh environments of undeveloped planets.

“The gland was damaged, and even after it’s healed, there will still be some problems,” Qiao Yan said softly. The faint reflection of the two of them was on the glass, and she could see the furrowed brows of the person next to her. “You frown a lot?”

"What?"

Qiao Yan was terrible at changing the subject, but thankfully it worked. She clicked on a photo on the terminal; it showed Nan Ya Yin's face.

Nan Yayin is very fair-skinned, so her frowning is particularly noticeable.

This is a photo he took at Shu Juan's lab that day. It's really ugly, and he frowned again.

"Why are you frowning?" Qiao Yan asked him. "You're only 20 years old, do you have a lot of worries?"

Nan Ya Yin didn't want her to know about her affairs. "Why ask so many questions? Does the contract state that I should tell you my own affairs in detail?"

Of course it wasn't in the contract; she was just a little curious. Nan Yayin looked behind the glass and said, "She's coming out."

The examination doesn't take much time, and the results are available immediately.

After examining the patient, the doctor said that Nan Shuyin's rib fractures were not serious and the swelling would subside quickly. However, the leg injury was more complicated and required surgery.

Nan Yayin was poor, and when she got sick, she had to tough it out. Even when she was seriously ill, she would have to take medicine and then have surgery.

"Does that mean it won't get better?" Nan Shuyin is so young, only five years old. What if her legs don't work properly later?

Seeing his worried expression, the doctor said, "It will heal slowly without surgery, but you will limp when you get there."

"It's not a major surgery, don't be afraid." The doctor was about to have Qiao Yan sign the consent form, but she passed it on to Nan Yayin.

He glanced at Qiao Yan, wondering what would happen if she became lame, what would happen when she went to school, and what would happen when she grew up. In the end, he gritted his teeth and signed the papers.

He was unsure of himself, and after signing the document, he glanced at Qiao Yan again.

Nan Ya Yin could tell from his expression that he was flustered. Anyone would feel pressured when faced with the responsibility of taking charge of someone else's life.
