The little girl's voice was somewhat melancholic, sounding especially lonely in this boundless white space.
Even so, Lu Shizhen still felt a great deal of resistance to her calling her "elder sister".
—Who else could have met them this morning besides the Supreme God!
A surge of anger welled up in Lu Shizhen's head. Looking at the somewhat pitiful-looking girl not far away, she showed no pity whatsoever and bluntly distanced herself from her: "Don't think that just because you possessed Xiao En's body you can call me 'sister' like she does!"
"How dare you, a supreme god who has lived for over 30 million years, call me 'sister'?!"
The little girl's expression immediately changed upon hearing Lu Shizhen's two sentences.
She stepped down from her seat and looked coldly at Lu Shizhen: "It seems the main system has told you everything about me and her, is that right?"
“Yes.” Lu Shizhen made no attempt to hide it and nodded to the seemingly harmless, youthful main god.
"So you also think I did something wrong, right?" the Supreme God asked again.
“Yes.” Lu Shizhen nodded again.
"But why?" The main god tilted her head slightly, as if pondering a problem she couldn't understand. "I was just telling them to follow the best destiny calculated by the main system and go towards each other. Isn't that good enough? Didn't you once think that Xu Shiyue should be given the best destiny? Why have you gone back on your past ideas now?"
“Because that’s not life,” Lu Shizhen said.
"A life that is spied on and arranged is not a real life; it is merely the most stable of countless possibilities. It has already evolved, so what's the point of replaying it?"
"Because stability is the most interesting thing."
Unlike Lu Shizhen's forceful rebuttal, the Lord God's answer was unhurried and deliberate.
Her fair, delicate feet trod on the pure white ground, creating ripples that spread from afar. Looking at this space that belonged to her, she declared domineeringly, "This world should remain unchanged. Once a rule is established, it must be followed. Once an agreement is made, it must be fulfilled!"
Lu Shizhen disliked these words, even finding them extremely offensive, and her tone became somewhat harsh: "Then why won't you die? Why are you stopping the evolution of the main system? Why are you violating the rules of your system?"
The atmosphere in the entire space instantly became tense.
The supreme deity looked down at Lu Shizhen as if she were a rebellious subject. His dark, unfathomable pupils, set in her childlike face, were both naive and obsessive, eerily terrifying.
Lu Shizhen gently squeezed her hand.
She was unsure whether she was dreaming or had somehow managed to get into the system space by the main god, but she kept in mind what the main system had told her: that she had the power to kill the main god.
If this morbid god were to do something to her later, she absolutely had to be prepared.
However, Lu Shizhen's vigilance did not last long, and then the God's gaze changed.
Her dark pupils were round and completely devoid of the maturity that had just clashed with her youthful face; she looked as clean and innocent as a child.
She sat down on the raised platform beneath her and murmured softly to Lu Shizhen, "Because she promised me."
"She promised to protect me forever, and she can't break her promise."
"Can't."
"Can't."
...
The same words echoed from the mouth of the main god, and the slender, fragile legs hanging on the high platform slowly bent up and were embraced by her.
Her hair, which had originally been loose down her back, had visibly grown longer, thick and curled, its jet-black color bearing the marks of history, enveloping her entire slender figure.
"She promised me she would always be with me."
Whether she was lost in her own memories or not, the Goddess began to tell her story to the only person in this space.
"The first person I saw when I opened my eyes was her. She was so gentle and beautiful, like a person formed from the purest white in the world."
The deity spoke in detail, his eyes shining brightly.
Lu Shizhen paused for a moment, then realized that the "she" she was referring to was not the main system, but the previous main god.
"She carefully imparted knowledge that was beneficial to me, breaking it down and feeding it to me in detail."
“She admitted that I was very important to her, so even when the world was destroyed because of my unilateral decisions, she never blamed me.”
"She was always so gentle, incredibly kind to me, the best person in the world to me. I respected her, valued her, and loved her."
The little girl's voice was filled with pride and sincere devotion.
Lu Shizhen felt that she seemed to really like the previous God. Her voice was much gentler now compared to her previous stubbornness.
"I will plant endless oxalis here in the spring, lotus flowers in the summer, and chrysanthemums in the autumn."
At this point, the main god paused, turned his gaze to Lu Shizhen not far away, and asked with interest, "Hey, guess what winter is."
Lu Shizhen played along somewhat, thought for a moment, and said, "Plum blossom?"
With a "pfft," the main god immediately burst out laughing upon hearing Lu Shizhen's answer.
She laughed heartily, her long hair falling down her shoulders with her movements.
With bright, shining eyes, she proudly revealed the answer to Lu Shizhen: "You're so stupid! Winter must be snow! Endless snow is more beautiful than any flower."
"That's what she told me."
The whole story revolves around the previous chief god, and the little girl can't stop talking about the chief god.
She hugged her legs, resting her chin on her knees as if reminiscing, and said, "Later, my abilities grew stronger, and I became more and more adept at managing the world. One day I told her that if I could be like her, and become human, that would be wonderful. If I had my own hands, feet, and heart, I would definitely be the first to hug her, and ideally, I could kiss her cheeks, forehead, and even her lips with my own. Don't you humans all say that kissing is the most direct way to express love?"
Lu Shizhen first saw the Goddess's eyes light up, then flash by like a shooting star, and the dark night sky remained dark: "But when the Goddess heard me say that, she didn't approve as she used to. She paused for a moment, and then said, 'Okay.' I thought my love had frightened her, but one day I suddenly discovered that her body would occasionally show signs of weakness."
"Wrinkles started appearing on her hands, then around her eyes and neck..."
The Goddess meticulously counted the details she saw, her calm eyes churning with a multitude of emotions that overwhelmed the beautiful scene she had just created. "I now understand that there can only be one life form in this system space. My strength will weaken her; this is a rule passed down through generations."
"She lied to me. She will never be with me forever. I am important to her only because I am the main system. If any other system were the main system, it would be the same."
As if making an accusation, the voice of the supreme deity gradually rose in volume.
Then, like a rising wave, it crashed down.
"Liar." The God spat out the two words with hatred from his tightly clenched lips.
"She never told me that we would never meet, and she even coaxed me to work hard to improve myself..."
The little girl sat upright on the high platform, her pure black color standing out as an anomaly in the vast white world.
And lonely.
Lu Shizhen was somewhat at a loss for words to describe her feelings, and then asked, "So, that's why you killed her."
"Yes, because that way I can see her." The goddess admitted it readily, her small face still smiling as she looked up. "But I kept my promise and kissed her. A promise she couldn't keep, I kept."
The deity spoke very seriously, and her youthful face made her look like a child who had done what she thought was right and was asking for praise.
But how can this be the right thing to do?
Unable to contain herself, Lu Shizhen uttered four words through her tightly pursed lips: "Heartless and insane."
Just from listening to the God's story, she could imagine what a gentle and compassionate god the previous God must have been.
But even programs can sometimes make mistakes, and even if it's only a one in ten million chance, she still encountered it.
"Taming the main system and making it the next main god is the destiny of every main god. You ask us to obey destiny, so why don't you obey it yourself? You are selfish and do not deserve to be a god who cares about all living beings!"
Lu Shizhen angrily rebuked the little girl sitting on the high platform.
But the little girl remained unmoved.
"I don't know where you get this misconception from, why do you think God loves all living beings?"
"Why must we demand that God not be selfish?"
The Supreme God countered with a question, his expression of genuine confusion seemingly genuine, not at all feigned.
Because she simply doesn't understand. Even though the previous supreme god instilled many emotions in her, she still doesn't get it.
"The Supreme God is like this, the Main System is like this, and even you are like this."
"Why won't any of you stay for me? Why can't we just keep the status quo? Why does change have to happen?"
"What I hate most is change!"
Almost obsessively, the supreme deity uttered his last words in a voice filled with extreme hatred.
His dark eyes were filled with a morbid desire for control.
Lu Shizhen was almost, just a hair's breadth away from being fooled by the story the main god had just told her.
She shook her head, raised her eyes, and calmly pointed out to the Supreme God, "No, what you hate is not change, what you hate is things not going according to your wishes."
"If it's something you want to do, you'll make them carry it out even if the plot goes wrong, right?"
Their eyes met, and the excitement in the God's eyes subsided.
The head resting on his knee tilted slightly, and he lazily said to Lu Shizhen, "Lu Shizhen, do you know, you're really not fun."
Lu Shizhen frowned slightly: "I'm not your toy. What business is it of yours whether I'm fun or not?"
"Is that so?" The Supreme God seemed to be deep in thought, a smile appearing on his childlike, innocent face. "Then shall we give it a try?"
