Chapter Sixty-Four

"Ahhh!" At 3:30 a.m., a time when everyone should be sound asleep, a strange sound came from the bedroom, startling Citrus, who was sleeping in the living room.

Ye Chu had been suffering from insomnia until now, her mind filled with all sorts of wild thoughts. She buried herself under the covers in an attempt to calm down.

Obviously, this is not working.

I held my head in my hands, and I could still feel a warm touch on the top of my head. So why did they say those things to me? Did they treat me like a practice problem?

She scratched her head, thinking that if she really considered Gu Yingdi a friend or a movie star, then she could treat this as practice. But the problem was, she had feelings for him, and this sudden flirting caught her off guard. All sorts of thoughts were racing through her mind, making her heart pound uncontrollably.

If he keeps jumping like this, should I call 120 (emergency services)?

So, after a sleepless night, Ye Chu had to use thick foundation and concealer to cover up her dreaded dark circles at work the next day.

"What's wrong? There are bloodshot eyes." Changji frowned as she stared at Ye Chu. Although her complexion looked better with makeup, she was still frightened when she picked her up today.

Ye Chu hesitated, and in the end Chang Ji could only shake her head: "Didn't you say before that you wanted me to free up a few days for you? I've freed them up for you."

"After visiting the graves this year, I'd also like to go back to the place where I lived when I was a child," Ye Chu replied slowly. This was something she and Ye Jing had discussed, and Ye Chu was still somewhat concerned about the dream she had before.

Changji nodded, seeing that she really couldn't muster any energy, and said, "The shoot is about to start. You need to control your performance in front of the camera. You and this publication are old friends. This is the last time you'll work together, so don't let it down."

The magazine Chang Ji mentioned was called "Light," and it was Ye Chu's first job shortly after her debut. The magazine recognized Ye Chu's talent and signed her to a long-term contract. A few years ago, when the contract expired, it was renewed. Unfortunately, this is the last year of Ye Chu's contract with "Light," and her age is no longer suitable for her to continue playing cute young girls.

The target audience of "light" is mostly teenage girls. The magazine's overall design is cute and girly. It often contains content about girls' feelings, such as love and confession, and records some love stories, but it mainly publishes girls' comics.

All Ye Chu needed to do was dress up as the protagonist of a long-running shoujo manga that had been serialized for five or six years for a cover shoot. The manga was set in a cute, magical girl style, and the protagonist was an excellent young model who, through a series of adventures, traveled through time to a magical kingdom to learn magic. Her goal was to become the most popular magician in the kingdom, so she started from scratch, learning magic little by little…

Now, the manga has reached its sixth and final volume. The female protagonist will finally realize her long-held dream and confess her feelings to the male protagonist who has accompanied her along the way. When the sixth volume appears, the author has given her a more mature new look: her long black hair is braided and tied up, she wears a magician's robe, and carries her special silver-white magic wand.

"No matter how many times I look at the photos, I still can't believe it!" The photographer exclaimed in surprise as he examined the pictures. "Chu, who would doubt that you're not a young girl? Darling, time seems to have stopped for you."

Ye Chu smiled helplessly. She heard this almost every time, but she never took it to heart. As actors and public figures, facial care is undoubtedly very important, and they certainly spend a lot of time and money on maintaining their appearance.

Although Ye Chu wasn't quite that extreme, her bedroom still had a huge amount of skincare products and lotions.

"I've actually gotten old," Ye Chu said to Chang Ji in the car.

Changji opened the car window, and a gentle breeze blew in: "Isn't this perfectly normal? You'll be thirty next year, how can you stay like a girl forever? Celebrities' faces have a longer shelf life than their peers, but their temperament and thoughts will settle down over time. Without realizing it, even you have become mature and composed." She looked up and thought for a moment.

“Maturity is a good thing. When I first took over your work, you had no experience in society. You had to write down your interview answers and memorize them beforehand... Now you can handle things on your own.”

Ye Chu nodded, but still sighed softly, "Suddenly I feel that my previous twenty-eight years were so meaningless. Studying, working, working, and I didn't even have a relationship during my youth... What a waste."

Upon hearing the word "love," Chang Ji's eyes lit up. She lowered her voice and whispered in Ye Chu's ear, "Speaking of which, I think now is the perfect opportunity! What do you think... um... how about Gu, the male god? How about getting him?"

Ye Chu: Auntie, my manager seems to be a little different from other managers. Other managers forbid their artists from dating, but my manager is urging me to date.

“You’re not getting any younger. Your aunt isn’t worried, but I am. We’re not saying we can talk about marriage right away, but at least you need to find someone first, right? I think Gu’s crush is pretty good. Anyway, we live in the same building, so being close by gives you an advantage.” Changji continued her analysis: “And look, Gu’s crush is thirty-two this year, right? Three years apart, what a great age difference, not too big, not too small.”

"Sister Ji!" Ye Chu whispered, her face flushed, glancing furtively at the driver, "My crush has someone he likes!"

"I know, that person is..." Realizing what she had said, Chang Ji immediately stopped, but the first part of the sentence had already come out. Ye Chu stared at her with wide eyes and asked, "You know? Who is it?"

"Uh, hehehe..." Changji's eyes darted around, and she quickly organized her thoughts: "It doesn't matter who it is, you still have a chance, don't you?"

"I will not be the villain who steals someone else's love."

"What? Isn't it just unrequited love from Actor Gu? How did he steal my love?" Chang Ji pouted. Steal my love? Whose? Me, stealing myself? If you go after him, I guarantee God Gu will immediately fall for you.

But she couldn't say these words; she could only keep them bottled up inside, feeling incredibly itchy.

"That won't work either." Ye Chu snorted and stopped talking to her. Every time Gu Yu mentioned the other person, her expression and tone of voice made Ye Chu know that unless she could become that person, there was no hope at all.

The problem is that she can't become that person, so naturally she won't express her feelings. Before things get too bad, she wants to take back these feelings.

If Gu Yu were here and heard Ye Chu's thoughts, he'd probably faint from anger. Wasn't his hint clear enough? What do you mean by "that person"? It's you...

Ye Chu looked down at her palms, and whether it was just her imagination or not, a scene suddenly flashed through her mind: a child holding another child's hand, crying loudly in the snow. The palm of the hand being held was bleeding.
