Chapter Sixty-Three

"Is this your tangerine?" Gu Yu squatted down and reached out to scratch the tangerine's chin. The little tangerine wasn't shy at all, letting the other person scratch it, and even hummed comfortably.

"Pfft, the little guy knows how to enjoy himself." Gu Yu chuckled and introduced the white puppy rubbing against the orange tree to Ye Chu: "This is Peach."

Ye Chu also reached out and rubbed Xiao Taozi's head. Taozi's white fur was very soft, and it felt a lot like the pom-poms hanging on some clothes.

The little guy let out a soft, babyish "woof," and rubbed against Ye Chu's palm obediently: "Little Peach is so gentle, while tangerines have too much peel."

"It's only right now that it's acting like a local tyrant at home. It was running around like crazy during its walk just now, like I was chasing it." Gu Yu looked up at Ye Chu. His voice was gentle and calm, but his words were somewhat humorous, which made Ye Chu's lips curl into a smile.

"Oh right!" Something flashed through Ye Chu's mind, and she remembered, "I almost forgot that this place was introduced to me by you, Actor Gu. The environment is really nice. I should have paid a visit, but I didn't expect to run into you here."

"There's no need for such a grand visit. My home is in Building 6, 6th floor, 602 on the left. You're still welcome to come and visit me."

“I’ll definitely go if I have the chance.” Ye Chu smiled at him: “It’s quite a coincidence, I live on the 8th floor of Building 6, also on the left, 802.”

The two stood up, and Gu Yu tied Taozi's dog leash: "Since we're so close, why don't you come to my house for lunch tomorrow? It'll be a good opportunity for Taozi to make new friends."

As he spoke, he shook the dog leash in his hand. Ye Chu looked down and saw that the tangerine and peach were sniffing and kissing each other again.

"Alright."

If you've made a promise, you have to keep it. The next day at 11 a.m., Ye Chu rang Gu Yu's doorbell right on time.

As soon as Ye Chu entered the door, she smelled the aroma of food. She took off the string from the tangerine and watched it and the peach that came to greet her at the entrance playfully run into the house.

Gu Yu's decorating style was similar to Ye Chu's. She was familiar with her idol's preferences and adapted well to this minimalist style.

Gu Yu was still wearing his apron: "You can eat after washing your hands."

Ye Chu readily washed her hands and went to the dining table with the other person. There were three dishes and a soup on the table, all very home-style cooking. Ye Chu first tasted a bite of the braised pork, and the texture and flavor made her look at Gu Yu with delight: "It's delicious! I didn't expect Actor Gu to be such a good cook!"

Gu Yu had already taken off his apron. He was wearing a white sweater and jeans, looking very casual. Hearing Ye Chu praise his cooking skills, he smiled and squinted his eyes, saying, "Then eat more. These are some of my specialties, which is why I dared to serve them to our guests."

Looking at the exquisitely plated dishes and savoring the lingering aroma of braised pork, Ye Chu felt a pang of envy: "It's so great to be able to cook. My cooking skills are completely terrible. No matter how I try, I can't learn. I've almost caused accidents several times, which has made Sister Ji afraid to let me into the kitchen."

Gu Yu offered her a helpless consolation, thinking to herself that when this person was a child, she helped in her family's kitchen and put salt into the egg yolk instead of sugar.

That time, the cake base that Gu Yu baked was salty.

Just thinking about how the people around her were back then filled Gu Yu with immense joy. Indeed, there's only one Ye Chu in the world, and no one else can emulate her.

Ye Chu, focused on her meal, didn't notice Gu Yu's increasingly strange gaze. He was looking at her with an almost greedy look, as if he wanted to see her all at once.

Gu Yu gazed greedily at the person in front of her, finding him adorable in every way, without a single flaw.

By the end of the meal, most of the food had ended up in Ye Chu's stomach. Gu Yu also ate some, but mostly just watched Ye Chu eat.

After lunch, Ye Chu helped wash the dishes, and Gu Yu said we could stay a little longer. Ye Chu hesitated for a moment, then glanced at the orange tree that was playing with Taozi's toys, and said, "Then let's stay a little longer."

The two sat down together on the sofa in the living room. A popular TV drama was playing on television, but neither of them was interested in watching it.

Ye Chu's thoughts raced through her mind several times; she definitely shouldn't have agreed to stay. She held back, but finally, slightly nervously, she asked, "Would Actor Gu mind talking about his childhood?"

The other person seemed somewhat surprised by her question. Ye Chu realized that she had indeed offended them and quickly said, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry. It's okay if you don't want to talk about it. I shouldn't pry into other people's privacy."

Gu Yu smiled indifferently: "There's nothing I can't say, but you might not like to hear it. My social circle was very small when I was a child, and it wasn't very interesting."

"No, no, I'd love to hear it. After all, it's the childhood story of a great movie star, something I've never heard the media talk about before."

"Hmm." Gu Yu picked up the water on the table and took a small sip: "I come from a single-parent family and live with my mother in G City."

"I'm sorry, I made you think of sad things," Ye Chu said softly, biting her lower lip.

“Actually, it’s nothing. I’m very happy living with my mother, and I had a happy childhood. Besides, I’ve met someone I’ll always like.” Holding her water glass, Gu Yu gave Ye Chu a bright smile: “She has grown into a very good person now, clean, insightful, and capable… someone that many people would like. I just don’t know when she will see me and remember me.”

Ye Chu's heart skipped a beat at his smile, followed by an indescribable bittersweet feeling, but she maintained her smile: "She will definitely remember, after all, I can feel that you, Mr. Gu, really like her, and she will notice it too."

"Is that so?" Gu Yu put down his water glass, the bottom of which touched the table with a short but crisp sound. He continued, "Will she... sense it?"

The atmosphere seemed a little awkward, but Ye Chu still nodded: "Yes! Actor Gu, you're a national heartthrob, don't you believe in your own charm?"

"It's hard to say." Gu Yu shook his head, quite helplessly. "I bet she doesn't know anything about it, and she hasn't felt anything at all." After hesitating for a moment, he added, "She's much more oblivious than I thought, but she's also very cute."

Ye Chu looked into his eyes, and the other person's gaze and tone were incredibly firm and serious, making Ye Chu, who had just said "she will," feel a little ashamed for some reason.

Her ears felt a little hot.

"Hurry up and remember!" Gu Yu said.

"What?"

“I mean…” A warm palm touched the top of her head: “She needs to remember quickly. I don’t have much time left for her. If she still can’t remember, I’ll have to change tactics.”
