Chapter 15

After hailing a taxi, Su Yin hurried to the entrance of the Grape Video building. She looked up at the imposing and modern top-notch business building in front of her. The huge characters "Grape Video" on the top of the building looked particularly majestic. As expected of a listed company that is one of the three largest video companies in the world, it stood out even among the many high-rise buildings in the city center.

This is Su Yin's first time entering this world's big video platform. This building is really valuable at first glance.

Su Yin couldn't help but wonder how much rent a building of this size and location would cost, and what Grape Video's current market capitalization was. When would she be able to expand her company enough to move into a place like this? Standing in front of the building's main entrance, Su Yin couldn't help but ponder these thoughts, then quickly snapped them out. She took a deep breath, smiled confidently and politely, raised her chin slightly, and strode calmly into the building in her high heels.

"Hello, I have an appointment with Section Chief Li Nan from the Variety Department at 3 o'clock this afternoon."

The receptionist asked for her name and appointment status. "Okay, I'll check. Ms. Su, right? Elevator on the left, office 1508 on the 15th floor."

Taking the elevator, Su Yin arrived at the door of the office with a sign that read "Deputy Section Chief of the Variety Department." She politely knocked on the door three times and waited for a response.

I heard someone inside say, "Come in."

Su Yin grasped the door handle, pressed it lightly, and walked in.

The office was filled with piles of written materials, piled high in the corners and next to the cabinets. A middle-aged man sat at his desk, his name badge on it.

Su Yin entered the room with a polite smile, observing the man calmly. The man had subtle wrinkles at the corners of his eyes, his gaze revealing his rich life experience and stern personality. Judging from his facial expression, slightly wrinkled clothes, and hair, he seemed to have worked late and hadn't gotten home to clean up. He didn't look particularly happy. He looked up at her, thought for a moment, and asked, "Su Yin from Yuexiang Entertainment...is that you?"

"Yes, hello." Su Yin stretched out her hand, shook hands with the other party, and sat down opposite him.

"You contacted me earlier and told me that your company was going to shoot a new variety show and broadcast it on Grape, and you wanted to talk about video recommendations?"

"Yes, the preliminary preparations for this new variety show have been completed. Here is some information, please take a look." Su Yin handed the materials to the other party politely.

Li Nan casually took it, glanced at it briefly, and remained calm. It was written quite professionally, not like the work of a small startup, but likely from a veteran in the industry.

He had some impression of Yuexiang Entertainment and the eight trainees listed in their profile. A few months ago, a non-produced variety show on the Grape platform achieved explosive popularity and hits. Its popularity was unmatched among small-budget, self-produced shows, even surpassing established, high-investment shows from larger platforms. The various post-production techniques employed by the company in this variety show certainly caught the attention of many industry insiders.

Li Nan had initially assumed that this company was likely comprised of a professional team of videographers and post-producers, and that the owner was likely a production professional. Unexpectedly, he discovered a young woman with delicate makeup and a beautiful appearance, perhaps only in her early twenties.

At the time, Li Nan also took some time to watch the variety show "Who is the Game King?" While the game segments were certainly interesting, and the post-production was also quite impressive, the show as a whole still had many issues, particularly with the trainee guests, the filming team, the hardware, and the director's ability, all of which held it back.

While the show has been a hit, Li Nan believes that the most important aspects to consider are the post-production process. Grape Video's post-production teams are also researching and studying these elements, and will try to incorporate some of them into their next self-produced variety show to test audience response.

Apart from that, there was nothing else about the show that required his special attention. After all, in the entertainment industry, dark horses are common, but evergreens are rare, and people in his position have seen too many of them.

Therefore, Li Nan remained unconcerned about this small entertainment company, which had only produced one hit variety show and no established artists. When Yuexiang Entertainment requested recommendations for a new variety show, it wasn't something he had to personally handle. Given the success and highlights of the previous variety show, the platform could certainly offer them more recommendations and preferential terms.

But unexpectedly, the other party was so ambitious that they actually wanted to directly take over the permanent first recommendation of the variety show section of Grape Video.

Li Nan flipped back through the data summary of "Who's the Yu-Gi-Oh?" that Su Yin had provided, and said in a somewhat arrogant but factual tone, "Excuse me, your last variety show did quite well. Even for a producer without experience or reputation, this is quite impressive. However, there are many dark horses like yours in the entertainment industry who become popular with just one work. Producing variety shows depends not only on inspiration and luck, but also on the strength of the team and capital."

"Recently, several satellite TV stations have launched their flagship variety shows on our platform. The guests are nationally recognized celebrities and movie stars, the production teams are highly professional, and the investment is in the tens of millions, or even close to 100 million. These programs have large, loyal audiences. None of your company can meet these conditions. Why does Grape Video give your variety show the highest level of permanent homepage recommendation?"

Su Yin wasn't upset by the other party's words; she had already expected this. Her calm demeanor actually made Li Nan think more highly of her. She was ambitious but not impatient or arrogant.

Su Yin still had a smile on her face, but her tone was more confident and determined. "Yes, our data is indeed not that important on a large platform like Grape Video. However, could you please take a look at our video ratings on Douban, as well as the fan stickiness and discussion of our videos since the end of this variety show, and the main fan base of our trainees."

"Douban's ratings show 'Yu-Gi-Oh!' ranks second in popularity among all variety shows so far this year. We also conducted a survey of viewers on platforms like Grape Video, Douban, and Weibo, and over 80% of those who watched 'Yu-Gi-Oh!' expressed a willingness to follow the same production team's next variety show. Furthermore, in terms of click-through rates, we haven't seen a dark horse variety show like ours achieve over 300 million views on its debut in the past two years."

"The main users of Grape Video are young people and female users. Among the three current video platforms, young female students, office workers, and housewives are all core users of Grape. This is consistent with the audience and fan groups attracted by our videos." Su Yin said some professional data she had prepared with a smile.

Li Nan glanced at her, a little surprised, but still said nothing.

"Moreover, we already have the experience and reputation of a successful variety show. This time, if Grape Video can increase the publicity and promotion of our new variety show, we are confident that we can achieve even more impressive results."

After hearing Su Yin's words, Li Nan took it a step further. He carefully reviewed the key data she had just mentioned and began to form some thoughts. He then offered Su Yin a new suggestion: "I admit, you seem to have some good ideas and some production highlights. If you're willing to hand over the program ideas and post-production staff to us, we can work together. We'll invite popular stars, hosts, the best cinematographers, directors, and post-production teams, and then conduct high-level promotion."

Li Nan put down the materials in his hand, spread his hands nonchalantly, and hinted to Su Yin: "Although I can't guarantee what kind of rating we will get in the end, this kind of cooperation opportunity will definitely be the best choice for you."

Su Yin felt even more confident after hearing this somewhat unexpected suggestion. She shook her head firmly, rejecting his suggestion and said with a polite smile, "We're a company that specializes in artists, not variety show production. Besides, even if we don't have a popular star, there aren't many idols of the same type who can compete with us, and there haven't been any variety shows created for them. This is a completely new field."

"Although our trainees aren't widely known yet, they already have a considerable fan base, and their fanbase is very loyal. Our artists are also incredibly collaborative with variety shows. The creativity of this new variety show is quite novel in the industry. We also have a creative and capable production and post-production team that most new-generation companies don't have. With more publicity, we'll definitely be able to generate top-tier results for the Grape platform in terms of buzz, variety show reviews, and click-through rates."

Just now, after reviewing the materials in his hand, Li Nan mentally confirmed that this variety show was indeed worthy of recommendation. However, these previous data alone were not enough to convince him to make a commitment and help. He just made one last push: "Are you really not considering co-producing this variety show? You can use your trainees and creative ideas, and we will handle the rest. It will be more professional and will get more publicity."

"After all, it's just a low-budget, slow-life variety show, so we don't have any big problems with funding and filming." Su Yin shook her head firmly.

"Next time, I will come to bother you with the first few recorded videos. I hope that my efforts today and our final results will impress you. I also hope that Yuexiang Entertainment Company can continue to cooperate more closely with Grape Video for mutual benefit and win-win results." After saying that, Su Yin stood up and did not stay any longer.

Li Nan pondered for a while. Since the other party rejected his cooperation request, there was no need for him to insist on it. If they want to make their own products, then so be it. Grape Video still has this magnanimity. However, even if the finished film is released, he does not think that this company can win the highest level of permanent homepage recommendation. Without saying anything final, Li Nan quickly wrote a line of preliminary evaluation on Su Yin's application, and said to Su Yin without raising his head: "Go to 1703 and keep this application for record. I will not reject your application now. Whether it will be approved in the end will have to wait until we see your finished film and then we will make a decision." After that, he continued to work on the task at hand.

Su Yin smiled widely, thanked him, politely closed the door and left, heading for office 1703.

She must fight for this recommendation!
