Chapter 18 No One Survives
Yi Li looked at the contents carefully.
The font is a beautiful small regular script, paired with red ink, which inexplicably makes people feel a chill down their spine.
Front Desk Attendant Work Manual
Welcome to the front desk clerk on the 12th floor. We are very glad that you can join our big family. Coming here means that you are already a part of us.

"Front Desk Attendant's Manual" reminds you that on this dangerous 12th floor, this rule will be your only chance to survive."
Six rules, not a lot.
It's a thick manual, with words only on the first page.
The back is all blank white.
Yili sat in his seat, slowly turning the pages one by one.
Finally, I saw a line of small words on an inconspicuous page.
"This manual is the third edition, and the content has been significantly altered. The error tolerance rate is 40%. You may independently determine the rules for errors, refer to reasonable requirements, and ignore unreasonable clauses. All rights of interpretation belong to the author."
That is to say, out of these six rules, two would be wrong.
Yi Li fumbled with the smooth paper, thinking silently.
Before Yili could think clearly, the phone rang in the quiet corridor.
'Ting-ting! Ting-ting!'
The sudden sound scared Yili.
She looked at the phone, thinking about what the manager said, and immediately picked up the call.
"Hello, distinguished guest, how can I help you?"
Yi Li has a sweet voice. Although she has just started working, she works like a veteran employee.
There was a sticky gurgling sound coming from the other end of the phone.
"I'm hungry. Eat."
Hungry?
The guest is hungry and wants to order food?
These managers didn't tell her how to fix it.
"Okay, I understand."
Yi Li smiled and asked about his address and what he wanted to eat.
She hung up the phone, typed the phone number and house number into an Excel spreadsheet, and clicked save.
She began to rummage through the drawers, looking for any other clues.
Sure enough, she found a crumpled little ball of paper in the trash can.
"Private kitchen order hotline: 1234567. Please note the address and food."
Yi Li was about to make a call as instructed, but hesitated.
She decided to look at the front desk again.
See if there are any other useful clues.
She saw a pile of crumpled documents in an abandoned folder, with a thin diary tucked inside.
She picked up the diary and read it carefully.

Today is my first day on this cruise ship. I was lucky enough to be assigned to the 12th floor as a waiter. It's a bit strange here, though: you're not allowed to turn on the lights. My friend Xiaomei was assigned to room service, while I became the front desk staff. The work here is easy, and the manager is very nice to us, though he'd occasionally say something a little odd to remind us.
I'm looking forward to these ten days of sailing. With this money, my rent will be covered. Xiaomei says the VIPs staying here are all very nice and kind to her. She's never been bothered. I'm happy for her, and I'm also happy for being assigned this kind of work.

It was my second day here, and I woke up early to start my new job. But I didn't expect to see myself at the front desk. It was strange. Hadn't I gone to rest? Why was I there? I was so scared I ran to tell Xiaomei. Xiaomei looked troubled, and I didn't know what she was thinking. I told her what happened. She angrily told me not to play tricks, to just focus on my work, and not to let my imagination run wild. She must have seen it wrong because I woke up so early. Seeing that Xiaomei didn't believe me, I dragged her to the front desk, only to find that no one was there.
Xiaomei was very angry and thought I was playing a trick on her. She told me that she was very tired and wanted to rest for a while, and asked me not to bother her, then turned and left.
I found that Xiaomei's walking posture was a little strange. Is she injured?
I found the ointment and went to her room, only to find strange moaning sounds coming from her room.
I felt betrayed by her.
She clearly said it, but she still betrayed me.

It was my second day here, and I began to distance myself from Xiaomei. She no longer approached me. I found her disgusting, but I couldn't help but want to give in. I admit, I was a little soft-hearted. After my shift ended, I went to her room, ready to wait for her, but I accidentally fell asleep on her bed.
I was startled by a loud noise, and I rolled out of bed in my sleep. I saw Xiaomei eating ***, and I was terrified. I didn't dare say anything, and only ran out after she finished and left. I was going crazy! When did she become a monster? Or... had she always been a monster?
I remembered a lot of details that I hadn’t thought of before, about Xiaomei…”
