Island Survival 1
"Chirp, chirp."
A few bird calls were heard from the short bushes. Chu Yun raised his brows slightly, and following the sound, he pulled aside the bushes, revealing the true appearance inside.
A young bird was hanging in the middle of a tree branch. It was covered with soft warm yellow feathers and its wings were not fully developed. It was still flapping its wings hard to try to escape from the bushes, but it was shackled by the surrounding trees and could not move.
Seeing the strange human being at this moment, it was frightened and screamed even more urgently.
"Don't move, I'll get you out."
Chu Yun slowed down his voice for a rare moment, carefully parted the branches around the baby bird, and gently took the baby bird out with both hands. Perhaps because Chu Yun's movements were gentle, the baby bird's cry became much steadier.
Chu Yun looked at the little bird carefully. There was an injury under its wing, probably from being scratched by a branch when it fell from the tree.
It just so happened that she had picked some herbs to heal the wound. Chu Yun took out the herbs from the storage ring, ground them into powder with the handle of the knife, and applied them to the wound of the young bird.
The young bird was not fully grown and could not fly, so its nest was probably nearby. Chu Yun looked up and saw a bird's nest somewhere above his head.
The bird was a living creature and could not be put into the storage ring, so she had to carefully put it in her coat pocket and climb up the target tree. Like a nimble monkey, she quickly climbed to the bird's nest.
The nest was empty now. The mother bird had probably gone out looking for food and hadn't noticed it, so it fell. Chu Yun found a suitable position, leaned against a branch, took the baby bird out of his pocket, and put it back in the nest.
"Be more careful next time."
If she encountered a hungry player, they might kill and eat the baby bird. Although she was not a good person, she would not touch these weak creatures unless they were in dire straits.
The young bird seemed to understand Chu Yun's words and chirped happily at her twice.
Chu Yun smiled, touched the baby bird's soft feathers, and then climbed down the tree swiftly.
More than ten minutes later, Chu Yun appeared in the camp. At this time, Xu Dongdong not only chopped a lot of branches, but also picked up a large handful of seafood.
"Sister Chuyun, where have you been?"
"After the tide went out this morning, I saw a lot of seafood left on the beach, so I went to pick it up. There was so much, enough for us to have several meals."
Xu Dongdong pointed at the crabs, shrimps and conchs on the ground, looking as if asking for praise.
"Yeah, not bad."
Chu Yun nodded in satisfaction, now he had a new source of food.
"Then let's quickly set up the tent and have lunch after we're done."
It was already 1 o'clock in the afternoon and they were all a little hungry.
Chu Yun was the main force and Xu Dongdong was the deputy. They removed the grass and bushes in the middle of the camp, lit a handful of mugwort and smoked it around to drive away some unknown small insects.
Then she used several branches as a top to build a triangular pyramid-shaped frame. The triangular pyramid was 1.2 meters high. People could not stand in it and had to bend over, but it was completely large enough to sit down.
After the roof was built, Chu Yun took out palm branches and a few large leaves and spread them on the roof, covering it one by one without leaving any gaps. The floor of the shed was covered with a thick layer of straw, and on top of that was the mat Chu Yun bought from the old man.
A simple shelter was set up, and Chu Yun and Xu Dongdong sat inside and lay down. There was just enough space for two people, and it would have been a bit cramped for one more person. The thatch was dried and felt incredibly soft to lie on. You could smell the scent of sunlight mixed with the earth.
Although it is simple, it is fully functional. It can be used for sleeping and is waterproof and insect-proof. It is very good that it can be turned into this appearance on this island where everything depends on do-it-yourself.
Lunch was instant noodles with seafood and wild vegetables. A pot was hung on wood over a simple fire, and various delicacies were cooked in the pot.
The bubbling soup was thick with the sweetness of seafood and wild vegetables. The instant noodles were cooked until soft, and the broth gave off a delicate aroma of wheat. It was so fragrant that the two of them couldn't help swallowing.
Earlier on the wooden boat, the instant noodles were so eye-catching that neither of them took them out. They had been eating fish and dry bread all day and were about to vomit. Now they could finally enjoy a good meal.
The instant noodles were bought with Chu Yun's gold coins and were not part of the team's public supplies. Although Chu Yun generously said it was okay, Xu Dongdong still felt bad and took the initiative to do many tasks such as making fire, cooking, and washing pots.
Every time he cooked, Chu Yun was there to guide him. At this time, his cooking skills had improved a lot, and it would not be long before he would be able to take charge of cooking alone.
Chu Yun is an output of force and intelligence. He knows his own strengths and weaknesses. Although he is also training and improving himself, his talent is like this, so he positions himself as a logistics nurse to ensure the basic construction of the team.
After putting out the fire in the middle of the camp, the two of them quickly finished their seafood and instant noodles, drinking up all the soup.
After resting for an hour, the two walked deeper into the jungle and began to explore the island.
Chu Yun stopped and walked along the way, picking a lot of herbs and wild vegetables on the way. She also dug out a few mushrooms that were about to break through the soil.
Xu Dongdong followed all the way and gained a lot of knowledge.
Chu Yun noticed that the further she went, the more animal tracks, feathers, and feces she found. It seemed there were small animals roaming around. After discussing it with Xu Dongdong, she selected several auspicious locations for her traps.
Without any tools to dig, the two had to use maces and sticks to dig, which was very strenuous. Chu Yun thought that if he wanted to live long, he should have all kinds of survival tools.
The two worked together for three hours to dig four not-very-deep pits. They tossed a little dry bread into the pits, placed a few thorns, and covered the traps with thatch and soil. These simple traps were ready. While they couldn't catch large animals, they were perfectly adequate for smaller ones.
After marking the route, the two of them prepared to go back. They had been out for 4 hours and the route they had already walked was quick to go back. After 40 minutes, they returned to the camp.
It was exactly 7 o'clock in the evening, the night was shrouded in darkness, and there was silence all around.
Chu Yun rekindled the fire in the center of the camp. The flames lit up, dispelling the darkness. The wood crackled, occasionally sending out sparks. Chu Yun stared at the sparks in a daze.
Xu Dongdong was in charge of dinner. He prepared a pot of mushroom and vegetable soup with dry bread. The dry bread was hard to swallow, but after soaking in the soup, it became soft and delicious. This reminded Chu Yun of the naan he had eaten before. A bowl of soup and a piece of naan, a simple and satisfying meal.
There was water, fire, and a pot. Chu Yun went to the beach to get a bucket of water, put it into the pot and boiled it, then mixed it with cold water and took it to a secluded bush on the side. He hadn't taken a shower for 5 days, and his clothes were soaked in the sea and got wet again and again. At this time, there was an unpleasant fishy smell.
She rinsed her mouth carefully, applied shampoo and shower gel, and rubbed herself from head to toe, ending her bath only when the odor was gone. She put on her only change of clothes, placed the dirty clothes in a wooden tub, soaked them in warm water with a little detergent, and hung them on a tree branch to dry.
My body is clean and I feel inexplicably happier.
When she came back, the water in the pot was boiling again, and she handed the wooden bucket and toiletries to Xu Dongdong.
Xu Dongdong happily prepared hot water. He didn't have gold coins to buy toiletries. Although he was not as particular as women, he was also a clean person by nature.
As usual, Xu Dongdong stayed up for the first half of the night, while Chuyun stayed up for the second half. After Xu Dongdong came back, Chuyun crawled into the tent and went to sleep. That night, Chuyun felt that even his dreams were sweet.
