Chapter 147 Entrustment

Although she knew these people must be family members of someone from Wuweilou, Jiang Nuan never imagined they were the steward and accountant from Qiushan.

These two men were the pillars of Wuweilou Restaurant, yet their wives and children were sold off. Jiang Nuan couldn't even imagine how they felt.

Has the head of the Jin family lost his mind?

"This is the helplessness of being a servant," Manager Jin said, his bitterness growing stronger. "Don't be fooled by their respectable appearance outside. Back in the mansion, they're still just dogs. The master can beat them or scold them as he pleases. If they get too annoyed, they can be sold off for money."

"Has something happened at Wuweilou?" Jiang Nuan looked at Manager Jin suspiciously. "Otherwise, why would you send them here?"

“It’s not a big deal, we can handle it for now,” a sharp glint flashed in Manager Jin’s eyes. “Mother-in-law, I’m entrusting these men to you. They’re all skilled workers, so feel free to ask them for help if you need anything. I won’t keep you any longer.”

After giving his instructions hastily, Manager Jin strode away.

"Looks like we've really run into a tough situation," Jiang Nuan muttered to herself. "It seems like the Jin family is the kind of people even the old fox wouldn't dare offend."

River embankment.

The workers were somewhat distracted, glancing around every now and then.

"Brother Qing," Huang Hai sniffed, "can you smell meat?"

"What does this meat smell like?" Huang Qing looked preoccupied and didn't react.

“Looks like it was just my imagination,” Huang Hai said, slamming his shovel into the ground in frustration. “It’s almost noon, Auntie should be bringing lunch soon.”

"Hmm." Huang Qing gave a perfunctory reply, lost in his own thoughts.

This attitude made Huang Hai realize that something was amiss.

He turned around and saw Huang Qing's bloodshot eyes. He asked in a panic, "Brother Qing, what's wrong? What happened to your eyes?"

No wonder Qing-ge kept his head down all morning; he was afraid others would see his eyes.

"It's nothing," Huang Qing said with a forced smile. "I just couldn't figure some things out, so I didn't sleep all night."

“You didn’t sleep all night, no wonder,” Huang Hai patted Huang Qing on the shoulder reassuringly. “Tell me what’s wrong, brother, I’ll give you some advice.”

"No need, I want to think about it myself."

“Okay,” Huang Hai nodded. “Qing is smarter than me. What you can’t figure out, I can’t figure out either.”

Beside him, Lai Zi sat on a rock, a blade of grass dangling from his mouth, looking even more distracted.

I wonder how well my aunt managed to persuade her?

It probably won't be that fast. That silly woman is so stubborn; she's probably not easy to persuade.

It seems we'll have to wait a while longer?

I really don't want this to drag on any longer. I hope my aunt can act quickly, otherwise, I'm afraid I might not be able to resist doing something...

The oxcart carrying the food appeared before the crowd amidst their eager anticipation.

Instantly, everyone gathered around.

"Fifth Aunt," Huang Hai ran over eagerly, "we'll take care of the things, you can rest over there."

Jiang Nuan nodded and gave up her seat.

"Fifth Aunt," Lai Zi looked at Jiang Nuan hesitantly, "Did you...did you try to persuade Qian Qing? What did she say?"

“You can propose marriage now,” Jiang Nuan knew Lai Zi was anxious, so she simply told him the result. “I only asked her to agree to marry, but I didn’t resolve her inner conflict. It’s best for you two to resolve your own issues.”

Jiang Nuan didn't want to get too involved in matters of the heart. As someone who had been single for two lifetimes, her thought process was completely different from others.

She once kindly advised her roommate to leave the scumbag, and after the two reconciled, they both cursed themselves out.
