As Jiang Nuan left Widow Qian's house, a relaxed smile appeared on her lips.
She knew that no matter how awkward a person was, they would still have a possessive streak towards their man.
"Looks like I really do have a talent for matchmaking," Jiang Nuan murmured as she stretched.
Inside the house, long after Jiang Nuan left, Qian Shi remained in a daze.
"How could I have agreed?" she said in frustration, tearing a plum blossom bare. "We clearly agreed that it wouldn't interfere with his future."
"What should we do? Should we back out?"
“But Fifth Aunt,” Qian Shi thought of Jiang Nuan’s sharp eyes and immediately shrank back, “she’s so scary when she’s angry.”
"That bastard, I really owe him something."
Thinking of the wedding ceremony, Madam Qian smiled shyly, and in that moment of bowing her head, she resembled a blooming water lily.
When Jiang Nuan returned home, she found that Manager Jin had come again, this time with several children.
"Old Jin," Jiang Nuan rubbed her forehead, "what are you up to now?"
If she wasn't mistaken, these five people were clearly the same people in the portrait.
What exactly is this old fox up to?
Thinking of this, Jiang Nuan looked at Manager Jin with even greater wariness.
“Mother-in-law,” Manager Jin said, seemingly oblivious to Jiang Nuan’s wariness, his smile unchanged, “I heard your village doesn’t have enough people for corvée labor, so I’ve sent over a few.”
“Our village’s corvée labor was resolved a long time ago, you don’t need to worry about it,” Jiang Nuan refused without hesitation. “I’m telling you, Lao Jin, it takes at least an hour to get from the county town to Huangjiakou. If you keep coming here every day, won’t you be able to keep the Wuweilou restaurant’s business?”
The problem is, every time they come over, it's never anything good; they just cause trouble.
Upon hearing this, Manager Jin's smile froze almost imperceptibly. "The Five Flavors Restaurant is full of talented people. What difference does it make whether I, an insignificant nobody, am here or not?"
"That sounds so sour," Jiang Nuan waved her hand. "How much vinegar did you drink today?"
"Old Mrs. Jiang," Manager Jin's smile vanished completely, and he spoke angrily, "Why is it so hard to hear a kind word from you?"
He's feeling really bad right now, can't you just offer a few words of comfort?
"If you want to hear nice things, go back to your Wuweilou restaurant. The door is over there. Goodbye!" Jiang Nuan said, smiling and gesturing for them to enter.
“Look at you, I just made a casual grumble and you kicked me out,” Manager Jin shook his head, “Your temper is getting worse and worse.”
"Stop talking nonsense and just tell me what you want to do now."
"Something's happened," Manager Jin said, unusually embarrassed. "They're not fit to stay at Wuweilou. I'd like to ask you to take them in for a few days."
"How many days?" Jiang Nuan asked sharply, "Tell me the specific time."
"At least a month," Manager Jin said with a troubled expression. "I don't know the exact time."
“As you can see,” Jiang Nuan said after a moment of thought, “there’s no place for them to stay at home. I’m afraid I can’t help with this.”
“They don’t need to stay at your house,” Manager Jin said with a smile as soon as he saw hope. “Your village should have some spare houses. Let them stay there, as long as they’re not too cold or wet.”
I'll prepare rice, flour, oil, and other food supplies. Just keep an eye on them and make sure they're not bullied.
"So concerned?" Jiang Nuan was genuinely surprised. "Who are these people that you care so much about?"
“Them,” Manager Jin said with a wry smile, “the three on the left are Qiushan’s wife and children, and the two on the right are the accountant’s wife and children.”
"My God!" Jiang Nuan exclaimed, standing up in shock. "Is the Jin family really that unethical?"
