The next day, Gulizi came as usual, and took out a bunch of bright red roses from the trunk, but this time it was champagne.
Yun Su Ni looked at him for a while, but did not take the flowers. She calmly said, "Li Ji, I have something to say to you."
Gu Liji sensed something was wrong, but still forced a smile: "Just take it, I bought it especially for you."
Seeing his cautious demeanor, Cheng Qicai couldn't bear it and went into the house, letting Yun Su Ni speak to him alone.
Yun Suni watched Cheng Qicai's figure disappear before turning around and getting straight to the point with Gu Liji, saying, "Liji, I really only consider you a friend."
Gu Liji tightened his grip on the flowers, trying to remain calm as he said, "Friends can become lovers, you know. You and Lu Qi have already broken up, don't I even have a chance to pursue you?"
"Liji, you've always been a friend to me. Lu Qi and I are just taking a break to cool off."
Gu Liji persisted, "But I really like you, can't you give me a chance?"
"Feel sorry……"
He still wanted an answer, "If it weren't for Lu Qi, we..."
“No,” Yun Suni looked at him with utmost seriousness. “It’s nobody else’s business if we can’t be lovers. I only have feelings for you as a friend. If you can’t accept that, I don’t think we need to meet or contact each other. I don’t want to be the one stringing you along.”
These words were so cruel that even Cheng Qicai, who was hiding behind the window, saw Gu Liji sway slightly from the blow, as if he was about to fall to the ground at any moment.
“Okay,” Gu Liji said, his voice trembling slightly, trying to sound nonchalant. “Since you’ve made up your mind, there’s no need for me to pester you. Just don’t regret it later and reject me, after all, I’m so outstanding.”
"I'm sorry, Liji. I wish you will meet someone you like in the future." Although Yun Su Ni's tone was full of apology, the meaning behind her words was still unwavering.
Gu Liji paused for two seconds, then gave a dry laugh. "Haha, then I'll take your good wishes. I'll head back to City A now."
Watching Gu Liji drive away, Cheng Qicai came out of the house.
"Sister..." she looked at her with some concern.
"It's okay, it's bound to happen sooner or later."
That's true; a short, sharp pain is worse than a long, drawn-out one.
Cheng Qicai said no more, and the two went inside.
Not long after we sat down, a relative rushed out of the front door shouting anxiously, "Qicai, come quick! Your boyfriend has fallen into the pond!"
Huh? What are you talking about? Cheng Qicai was stunned by the shout. Where did she get a boyfriend?
She walked out of the house, completely bewildered, and asked the aunt at the door, "Auntie, are you sure you haven't called me by the wrong name? I don't have a boyfriend."
"Oh dear, how could it not be? Didn't they come to your room yesterday and today?" The aunt had a "keep pretending" look on her face.
Upon hearing this, Cheng Qicai instantly realized she was referring to Gu Liji and asked incredulously, "You mean, he fell into the pond?"
"Yes, it's that abandoned fishpond at Wang Er's house. The whole car got stuck in it..."
What bad luck!
Cheng Qicai immediately rushed to the abandoned fishpond that her aunt had mentioned, taking Yun Suni with her on a tricycle.
Sure enough, Gu Liji's flamboyant blue sports car could be seen from afar in the pond, surrounded by a large crowd.
Cheng Qicai quickly ran over and pushed through the crowd, where she saw Gu Liji covered in mud.
She quickly stepped forward and asked, "Brother Gu, are you alright?"
Gu Liji's face was covered in black mud, with only his pair of bright, clear eyes standing out. When he heard her voice and looked at her, his eyes were vacant, filled with a sense of utter despair.
It reeked of being a dead fish.
An old man next to him said, "Qicai, it seems your boyfriend has a broken leg. He needs to be taken to the hospital."
Cheng Qicai was startled. Seeing that his leg looked somewhat unnatural, she asked the people around her to help Gu Liji onto the tricycle.
I took him to the hospital, swaying unsteadily.
The doctor frowned as he looked at him. "What happened here?"
Cheng Qicai replied awkwardly, "I drove into a mud pit."
The doctor cleaned the mud off Gu Liji's leg and made a diagnosis: "It seems to be a fracture in his lower leg. Further observation with X-rays is needed. You can go and clean the mud off him first."
Cheng Qicai had no choice but to ask her classmates from her county to help Gu Liji clean up.
After all, neither she nor Yun Suni were a good match.
Finally, Gu Liji was diagnosed with a fractured lower leg and needed to be hospitalized for a cast.
"Uh, Brother Gu, do you think you should inform your parents?" Cheng Qicai asked cautiously, seeing him lying on the bed looking so irritable.
I was afraid of shattering his fragile heart.
"..." Gu Liji hesitated for a moment, then said lifelessly, "Let's contact my brother."
Gu Liji took out his phone, pressed a few buttons, but the screen remained black and unresponsive.
A series of blows left him speechless with anger.
He let out a long sigh and, exhausted, threw his phone into the trash can.
"Let me call it for you!" Cheng Qicai didn't dare to speak too harshly now.
She went outside the ward and called Gu Rongqi. After two beeps, the call was connected.
"Hey, Gu Rongqi..." She couldn't think of what to say about the accident for a moment.
Hearing the hesitation in Cheng Qicai's words, Gu Rongqi asked her in a low voice, "Um, Qicai, what's wrong?"
She briefly explained the situation: "Brother Gu came to see my sister, fell into our abandoned fishpond, and broke his leg. He asked me to contact you."
“Okay, I’ll get over as soon as possible. Please take care of things for me,” Gu Rongqi’s tone suddenly turned somber. “Thank you for your help, Qicai.”
Cheng Qicai hung up the phone, walked back to the ward, and said to Gu Liji, "Brother Gu, Gu Rongqi said he will come as soon as possible."
She asked Yun Suni to stay and take care of Gu Liji while she went home first.
When she got home, she first told her grandparents that she had to take care of her friend for the next couple of days and might not have time to come home.
Grandpa Cheng and the others expressed their understanding. They had also heard about Gu Liji's fall into the pond and told her to go and take care of her friend first.
Cheng Qicai went upstairs to pack her and Yun Suni's clothes and toiletries, and then immediately returned to the hospital.
Fearing an awkward situation for the two, Cheng Qicai suggested that Yun Suni stay at a hotel while she stayed to keep her company.
Yun Su Ni hesitated as she looked at Cheng Qi Cai.
Cheng Qicai leaned close to her ear and whispered, "Sister, you should go. Brother Gu is already in a bad mood, and he probably won't feel good if he sees you now."
Yun Suni thought about it and agreed with Cheng Qicai's plan.
