There was a long silence on the other end of the phone.
Every second of silence felt like a heavy hammer blow to Leng Nan's heart, causing a fine layer of cold sweat to bead on her forehead.
“He also said…” Leng Nan struggled to organize her thoughts as she repeated Qin Xiao’s extremely arrogant words, “He said that he had just fought with ‘Ghost’ a few hours ago and had discovered ‘Ghost’s’ fatal weakness. Therefore, he demanded… complete command of this ‘Sword’ operation.”
"Nonsense!" The voice on the phone suddenly rose, filled with thunderous rage. "What right does a greenhorn like him have! Who does he think he is!?"
“Based on his skills,” Leng Nan replied softly, but with unusual firmness, “and also because… we only have 72 hours. Grandpa, based on my on-site assessment, without him, the probability of our mission failing is one hundred percent.”
Another suffocating silence ensued.
This time, the silence lasted even longer. So long that those colleagues who had been craning their necks to eavesdrop began to fidget, feeling their hearts could hardly take the stimulation.
Finally, the aged voice rang out again, but the previous thunderous rage had vanished, leaving only a deep weariness and an unquestionable resolve.
"Give him the communicator."
Leng Nan mechanically walked back to Qin Xiao with the communicator in her hand, handing it to him with a complicated expression.
Qin Xiao calmly took it and put it to his ear.
"General Leng." He greeted him casually, as if he were talking to an ordinary elder.
“Kid,” the voice on the phone was deep and authoritative, seemingly penetrating the receiver and directly oppressing one’s spirit, “I don’t care who you are, what your background is, or what your purpose is. I’ll give you what you want. Temporary command of the operation, Leng Nan and her ‘Snow Wolf’ squad will be entirely under your command during the mission. But you only have one chance, 72 hours. If ‘Ghost’ escapes, or if anything happens to my granddaughter…”
"There are no ifs." Qin Xiao interrupted him directly, his tone calm but full of absolute confidence. "General, you just need to be prepared to inspect the results and pay the final payment."
After saying that, he hung up the phone without even waiting for a response and casually handed the communicator back to Leng Nan, who was completely dumbfounded.
"Now, we're partners." Qin Xiao smiled at her, a smile that, in Leng Nan's eyes, was more terrifying than the devil.
He turned around, his gaze passing over the faces distorted by shock, fear, or fanaticism, and finally landing precisely on Fatty Zhang, who was slumped on the ground, his face ashen, his crotch slightly damp, and emitting a foul odor.
Geng Yu and Ling Changning exchanged a glance and swallowed hard. Ling Changning nudged Geng Yu with his elbow, lowered his voice, and whispered, "I... I feel like Brother Xiao is even scarier than that female officer?"
Geng Yu nodded in deep agreement and muttered, "If anyone ever tells me again that Brother Xiao is a spendthrift, I'll fucking fight them... This isn't a spendthrift, this is clearly the King of Hell coming out to experience life."
Qin Xiao walked slowly to Zhang Pangzi and looked down at him as if he were a lump of mud that couldn't be plastered on a wall.
“Vice President Zhang, look, it’s already dawn, and the show is over.”
His voice was soft, yet it struck Zhang Pangzi's eardrums like a heavy hammer.
"Now, isn't it time for you to keep your promise and kowtow to me?"
