Time quietly rewinds to an hour earlier.
Ye Chen sat cross-legged on the cold floor of the hotel room, trying to circulate the remaining true energy in his body to heal his injuries.
Just as his inner energy began to circulate, a sweet, metallic taste suddenly surged up his throat.
"puff--"
A mouthful of blood spurted out without warning, staining the expensive carpet in front of him red.
That damn Qin Xiao!
Ye Chen's eyes flashed with resentment and venom. Every breath he took was accompanied by excruciating pain in his internal organs, as if someone was stirring them with a blunt knife.
His skills are far from recovered.
He angrily wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and grabbed the phone next to him.
The screen lit up, and the date on the calendar was carefully marked below it—Gu Siqing's birthday.
He had originally planned a grand ceremony that would shake the entire city, to announce in front of everyone that Gu Siqing was his woman, Ye Chen's destined daughter!
But now... looking like a ghost who can barely stand up straight, let alone a grand ceremony, even leaving this room feels like undergoing a tribulation.
hateful!
He was unwilling to miss out like this, unwilling to let that bastard Qin Xiao take advantage of the situation!
My gaze swept across the room and finally landed on an inconspicuous velvet box in the corner.
Inside was a carefully selected diamond ring, which, although insignificant compared to the originally planned "pigeon egg" diamond, was still quite valuable.
At least, he needs to let her know that he, Ye Chen, still remembers her birthday and that she still has feelings for him.
Despite the excruciating pain in his body, Ye Chen changed into a dark casual outfit that he tried to keep from drawing attention, put on a hat and mask to cover his pale and distorted face, and hurriedly left the hotel.
He hailed a taxi and headed straight for the Gu Group Building.
However, he came up empty-handed.
The receptionist informed us with a professional smile that Mr. Gu had already left work.
Ye Chen's heart sank suddenly, and an ominous premonition spread rapidly. He hurriedly told the driver to turn around and rush back to the Gu family manor.
Still no one was there. The lights were sparse, and only a few servants were tending to the courtyard.
The ominous premonition grew stronger and stronger, like a cold hand gripping his heart.
He rushed up to a security guard who was about to change shifts and looked somewhat unfamiliar, his voice hoarse as if sandpaper were being rubbed together:
"Where is Gu Siqing? Where did she go?"
The security guard was startled by his grim, almost livid face and bloodshot eyes. He instinctively took a half-step back and stammered, "..."
“Miss Gu…it seems, it seems she was picked up by that young master of the Qin family, driving…driving a black Maybach.”
The young master of the Qin family? Qin Xiao!
boom!
His anger erupted like a long-suppressed volcano, instantly consuming Ye Chen's remaining rationality.
It's Qin Xiao again! He's like a persistent ghost!
He practically ground his back teeth to shreds, squeezing out a few words from between his teeth to find out the restaurant's name. Then, like a madman, he rushed to the roadside, roughly flagged down another taxi, and nearly called the police in fright.
The car sped through the night and finally stopped downstairs at the top-tier French restaurant, located atop the city and renowned for its privacy and luxury.
Ye Chen looked up and saw the rooftop terrace brightly lit, enveloped in a soft glow, with the faint sound of a melodious violin drifting through the air.
He stumbled into the magnificent hall, only to be stopped by a polite waiter in a tailcoat.
"I'm sorry, sir, the rooftop terrace is booked out for tonight. Do you have a reservation?" the waiter asked politely, a formulaic smile on his face, but a hint of scrutiny in his eyes.
A reservation? The rage in Ye Chen's chest almost consumed his reason. All he wanted now was to rush to the rooftop and tear that despicable couple to shreds!
But he knew he couldn't force his way in. In his current state, if he made a scene, he would only humiliate himself.
Ye Chen suppressed his rage, his eyes darting around as he scanned his surroundings.
The opulent lobby, the impeccably dressed guests, and the well-trained waiters all spoke volumes about the restaurant's tight security. Entering through the main entrance was definitely out of the question.
He took a deep breath, forced a stiff smile, and said in a low, muffled voice, "It's booked. The private room is upstairs. Please wait a moment while I check the reservation information."
As he spoke, he pretended to take out his phone, covered his face, and turned to walk behind the potted plants in the corner of the lobby.
Seeing this, the waiter, though still somewhat puzzled, did not press the matter further and turned to greet the other guests.
Ye Chen hid in the shadows, quickly scanning his surroundings, his gaze settling on the "Employee Passage" sign not far away.
Great, let's break through from there!
Like a cheetah lurking in wait, he silently slipped into the employee passageway.
The corridor was dimly lit and quiet, with only the occasional faint footsteps. Ye Chen shuffled lightly, cautiously observing his surroundings.
Turning a corner, he saw a waiter's uniform with his back to him, looking down at his phone, seemingly replying to a message.
The opportunity has arrived!
A ruthless glint flashed in Ye Chen's eyes. He approached silently like a ghost and delivered a precise chop to the back of the other's neck.
With a muffled groan, the staff member collapsed to the ground before even having a chance to react.
Ye Chen swiftly and roughly stripped off the other man's uniform, as if he were engaged in a life-or-death battle. After changing into the uniform, he straightened his collar, pulled his hat down to cover most of his face, pushed open the fire door leading to the top floor, and quietly slipped inside.
The stairwell was deserted, save for the cold metal steps and the heavy fire door. Ye Chen climbed upwards quickly, taking three steps at a time, each step aggravating his wounds and causing sharp pain, but he seemed oblivious to it, only wanting to reach the top floor as soon as possible and stop that horrible scene from continuing to unfold.
