Chapter 17 The True and False Crown Princes of the Chu Family: Chu Nanfeng and Xiao Wujie

This scene continued for quite some time in the brightly lit hall.

Xiao Wujie, having talked too much, felt his throat was dry and couldn't help but cough twice.

Chu Liyue, whose face was already somewhat dark, immediately pulled Xiao Wujie to her side upon seeing this, fed him some hot water, and forbade Old Master Chu and Bai Jingxuan from asking any more questions.

Chu Yuntian blinked his old eyes at Bai Jingxuan with a slightly unnatural expression.

Bai Jingxuan indicated that she had received the signal, and then nodded towards Chu Mingcheng, who was sitting blankly to the side.

Chu Mingcheng's eyes twitched involuntarily when he saw this, and he immediately turned his face away to the other side.

It's as if it's saying: I can't handle this!

But all three of them glanced at Chu Liyue without prior arrangement, and then truly fell silent.

They all felt guilty towards Chu Liyue. In order to cultivate her into the successor of the Chu family, they sent her away from her parents and close relatives from a young age, and she endured inhuman trials alone.

Compared to Chu Nanfeng and other young ladies from other families, Chu Liyue has never enjoyed a single day of the blessings that one is entitled to.

Fortunately, Chu Liyue lived up to expectations and shouldered the heavy responsibility of the family.

However, the cruel trials and the loveless environment also caused Chu Liyue to be distant from them, and she always appeared cold and indifferent to them.

It has been more than half a year since Chu Liyue last returned to the old house to meet them.

If Xiao Wujie hadn't come to the capital, they wouldn't even have known what reason to give Chu Liyue to return to the old house.

Just as the atmosphere in the hall became a little awkward, the voice of a servant suddenly came from outside.

"Second Master, Second Madam, and Second Young Master have arrived!"

The Chu family's old residence has always been occupied only by the head of the family. Therefore, on ordinary days, only Old Master Chu Yuntian, Chu Mingcheng, and Bai Jingxuan live here. Chu Feihong's family also rushed over from outside.

Compared to the dignified appearance of Chu Mingcheng and his wife, Chu Feihong and his wife had rather dark and mean-spirited looks, giving the first impression that they were not good people.

In fact, they are not good people at all.

But are there any absolutely good people in the world?

His son, Chu Yichen, was tall and handsome, giving the impression of a virtuous gentleman.

When Chu Mingcheng and Bai Jingxuan saw the visitor, they frowned almost imperceptibly, then remained seated in silence, showing no intention of getting up to greet him.

Chu Liyue didn't even glance at him; her attention was entirely on the sickly beauty Xiao Wujie beside her.

Seeing this, Xiao Wujie merely smiled secretly and said nothing more.

The eerie atmosphere was finally broken by Old Master Chu Yuntian, who sat in the main seat and somewhat helplessly invited them to sit down.

He was not entirely unaware of Chu Feihong's actions over the years.

However, he was kind-hearted and grateful. His old friend had given him a second chance at life, and although he was somewhat disheartened by Chu Feihong's actions, he couldn't bring himself to sever all ties.

Furthermore, although Chu Feihong and Chu Mingcheng were not on good terms, Chu Feihong still respected him. As for those market competitions and unfounded rumors, Chu Feihong, who had already retired, naturally couldn't blame him for anything.

At his age, although he wasn't exactly frail and nearing the end of his life, death could come at any moment.

If he has any wish for the rest of his life, it is definitely that the two brothers can get along well and reconcile.

Judging from the current situation, the chances seem slim.

After they sat down, Xiao Wujie finally saw Chu Feihong's face. His face was thin with prominent cheekbones, and his eyes were sunken. The shadows under his eyes were like two deep ravines, giving him a gloomy feeling.

I imagine I haven't had a good night's sleep these past few days!

Chu Feihong was indeed a man of deep cunning; although his face was grim, he didn't show anything.

His wife, Mu Wanqing, lacked his composure. Her sharp eyes, filled with almost tangible resentment, stared viciously at Chu Liyue.

Only Chu Yichen remained calm, as if nothing had happened.

This perfectly illustrates the saying that those who can remain calm and collected are the ones who keep their secrets the deepest.

But there are people in the Chu family who are even more secretive than him!

Whether intentionally or unintentionally, Chu Feihong and his family had barely sat down and hadn't even had a chance to say a word when someone came to report that dinner was ready, and everyone immediately moved to the dining room.

At the huge solid wood dining table, Old Master Chu Yuntian sat in the main seat, flanked by Chu Mingcheng and Chu Feihong, and below them were Chu Liyue and Chu Yichen.

Xiao Wujie then sat between Bai Jingxuan and Chu Liyue.

Don't ask why?

One question is about how to conveniently take care of Wu Jie's baby!

The two people asked because they didn't trust Ah Jie's younger brother!

To everyone's surprise, the servants, who were usually very meticulous about arranging the chairs, seemed to have placed an extra chair.

All of these have arrived, so how come there's an extra empty seat?

Just then, a servant announced, "The young master has arrived!" which made everyone realize what was going on!

So, apart from Xiao Wujie, everyone present looked at the strangely dressed man who walked in with strange eyes, even with some speechlessness and disdain.

Compared to most of the people present who were dressed in formal attire, he seemed to have traveled from another time and space.

As a popular entertainment star, he must have just finished a performance. His clothes were made of various colorful silks, each piece of fabric shimmering with different metallic luster.

The coat's cuffs are wide, spreading out like wings, and the sleeves flutter in the wind like vibrant brushstrokes on a canvas.

His face was exceptionally handsome, with a straight nose, thin and sensual lips, and a confident yet slightly playful smile on his lips.
