After more than three hours, the plane finally landed at the Xiao family's private airport.
As the hatch opened and Xiao Wujie stepped out, his eyes lit up.
In March, the lingering winter chill still lingers in Beijing, and one still needs to wear a sweater and a thick coat when going out.
But in Lingnan, spring was in full bloom, and the air was warm and pleasant. Even Xiao Wujie, who was always sickly and cold, felt waves of warmth rising from his body.
Xiao Qianshan's lips curled into a very faint smile: "Young friend, how is it?"
"The climate in Lingnan is warm and comfortable, which is very good for health. Staying here for a while will also be good for your health."
Xiao Wujie, gripping the handrail and with Chu Liyue's arm around his waist, carefully descended the long staircase, responding with a smile:
"Thank you for your kindness, Grandpa Xiao. It would be impolite of me to refuse."
When they got off the plane, a middle-aged man was already waiting for them.
The man, dressed in a light-colored suit, stood ramrod straight and possessed a refined air. He greeted Xiao Qianshan as soon as he stepped off the plane, his smile gentle and his voice warm.
"Father, Uncle He, did you enjoy your trip to the capital?"
Xiao Qianshan nodded indifferently, while Old He behind him smiled warmly:
"Thank you for picking me up at the airport, Lin Zui. The trip to the capital went smoothly, and Master is in a very good mood."
Xiao Linzui shifted his gaze slightly to Xiao Qianshan, seemingly trying to find traces of pleasure in his cold and stern face.
Old He acted nothing like a servant, but more like an elder in the family. He grinned at Xiao Qianshan and said:
“Master, please do me a favor. Lin Zui never misses a single trip when you go out or come back; he always attends in person.”
"Your stern face makes Lin Zui feel quite disheartened."
Xiao Qianshan, leaning on his cane, glanced at him sideways, a cold glint in his eyes. Old He immediately straightened up, his face becoming serious, and remained silent.
Xiao Qianshan's facial features softened slightly as he exhaled softly:
"He is better than those two rebellious sons."
Xiao Lin was as captivating as his name suggested; he possessed a magical quality that calmed the mind. Hearing Xiao Qianshan's words, he chuckled softly.
“Eldest brother, I have to manage the affairs of the Xiao family and can’t spare the time. Third brother’s residence is not in the old house, so he naturally knows less about these things.”
"Now that Father He has returned, I will inform my third brother and his wife to come to the old house for dinner tonight."
Xiao Qianshan simply said "Whatever you want," his attitude extremely awkward, though the tense lines on his face unconsciously relaxed a bit.
Where he couldn't see, Old He winked at him secretly, as if to say, "Don't you know what kind of person your father is?"
They're so concerned with saving face that they suffer for it. They might be secretly overjoyed, but they have to keep a straight face.
A smile from him looks like he's about to cut off a piece of flesh.
Xiao Linzui had a very good temper, and his face was still smiling, showing no sign of displeasure or anger.
He clearly noticed Xiao Wujie and Chu Liyue beside him, his face showing amazement. He immediately cast questioning glances at Xiao Qianshan and Lao He:
"Father, Uncle He, who are these two...?"
This was the first time Xiao Qianshan had spoken since getting off the plane. He reached out his hand towards Xiao Wujie, his eyes slightly lowered, and his voice unusually gentle:
"This is Xiao Wujie, young friend Xiao."
Although Xiao Qianshan only introduced his name and did not mention any titles or identities, Xiao Linzui's attitude was excellent, leaving no room for criticism.
He extended his hand to Xiao Wujie first, introduced himself in a gentle voice, and his every move exuded the refined and approachable demeanor of a gentleman.
"Greetings, Young Master Xiao. I am the second son of the old master. My name is Xiao Linzui."
"We are from the same family, so if you don't mind, you can just call me Uncle Xiao."
Xiao Wujie's outward demeanor is actually quite similar to Xiao Linzui's, except that he has a touch more of aloof and ethereal air.
Although he bent slightly and grasped Xiao Linzui's outstretched hand with both of his, he did not appear coquettish. Instead, he exuded an air of composure and excellent manners.
"Hello Uncle Xiao, it's an honor to meet you for the first time."
Xiao Linzui shook hands with him briefly, a strange glint flashing in his usually amiable eyes.
Although the old man did not reveal his identity, his humble yet confident demeanor suggests that he was not from an ordinary family.
His gaze swept over Xiao Wujie's features, his brows twitched slightly, and he suddenly chuckled softly.
"We share the same surname, and Young Master Xiao's appearance truly makes me feel a sense of kinship."
Xiao Qianshan's eyes flickered slightly, but he didn't reply. Instead, he turned his gaze to Chu Liyue.
"This is Chu Liyue, the eldest daughter of the Chu family in the capital. She and Xiao Xiao are engaged."
Xiao Linzui's eyes visibly widened when he heard the words "eldest daughter of the Chu family." Even though he was a generation older than Chu Liyue and the capital of Lingnan was far away, he had heard of the reputation of this proud daughter of the Chu family.
He quickly reached out and shook hands with Chu Liyue, his gaze sweeping over Xiao Wujie and Chu Liyue before he chuckled with a sigh:
"Young Master Xiao and Miss Chu are truly a perfect match, so stunning that one cannot look away."
As he spoke, a look of realization appeared in his eyes. In his memory, three years ago, news broke that the eldest daughter of the Chu family in the capital was in a relationship with her younger brother whom she had raised. This matter had caused a great deal of discussion even in Lingnan.
After exchanging pleasantries, Xiao Linzui immediately ushered them into the car.
In the luxurious and spacious business van, Xiao Wujie and Chu Liyue sat in the back seat.
Because of the high temperature in Lingnan, Xiao Wujie rarely had sweat on his forehead. His coat, which he had taken off, was held in Chu Liyue's arm. Her delicate, smooth palm gently stroked the back of Xiao Wujie's hand as she softly asked:
"Sweetie, are you sleepy?"
Xiao Wujie hadn't slept on the plane the whole way, and now his brows were visibly furrowed with fatigue. He reached out and hugged Chu Liyue's arm, nuzzling his cheek against her neck.
"A little, but we can still hold on."
Sitting in front of him, Xiao Qianshan spoke in a deep voice to Xiao Linzui:
"Lin Zui, have someone prepare a room for the two little ones in the old house. They will be staying there for a while."
"In addition, the room should be in a sunny and quiet location, as Xiao Xiao is not in good health and needs to rest more."
Sitting in the passenger seat, Xiao Linzui respectfully agreed, but couldn't help but look at Lao He through the rearview mirror.
That look in his eyes was as if he were seeing Xiao Qianshan for the first time.
When has Xiao Qianshan ever cared so much about outsiders? Even though he brought the two little ones himself, this is too thoughtful and enthusiastic!
His only son and his eldest brother's daughter are Xiao Qianshan's own grandchildren, and it's usually difficult to get a smile from him.
In contrast, she treats the two little ones more like her own children.
Old He secretly glanced at Xiao Qianshan beside him. Xiao Qianshan was leaning on his cane, looking out the window, seemingly unaware of them.
He immediately gave Xiao Linzui a look that said, "You'll understand what's going on," then lowered his head, pretending nothing had happened.
Xiao Linzui was left with a look of confusion, his lips moved slightly, but he ultimately remained silent and turned his gaze forward.
