"Are you sure you don't want my mirror?" Xu stepped forward and waved the mirror in his hand. "It'll be quick."
I glanced at the faint smile on Xu's lips and decisively refused.
We all left Sun and Moon City quietly and cautiously. As soon as we left the city, Feng Su transformed into a giant phoenix. It took me a long time to coax Feng Su before he agreed to let us all sit on his back. Fortunately, Feng Su's true form could change size, which allowed him to fit so many of us.
Jin Yu seemed unusually excited the whole way, especially when she looked at Feng Su with such fervent and devout eyes. I was almost starting to wonder if Jin Yu was falling for Feng Su.
"Jinyu, you wouldn't happen to have taken a liking to Feng Su, would you? Your gaze is so intense." I teased as I moved closer.
"Damn! Who do we have here? I felt a strong gaze even before I turned around. It's you, kid." Feng Sufei didn't waste any time with his words.
Seeing that we were both teasing him, Jin Yu scratched his head and looked away. "No, it's just that he looks too much like the legendary Vermilion Bird. Is he really not the Vermilion Bird?"
"No, he's a phoenix, he's different." I shook my head. "Are you very interested in the Vermilion Bird?"
I remember that when Jin Yu saw Feng Su's true form before, she also acted strangely and asked if it was the Vermilion Bird.
“The Vermilion Bird is the head of the Four Celestial Spirits.” Jin Yu was excited, her eyes filled with longing and yearning. “Legend has it that he can help people become immortals and grant them longevity.” Jin Yu’s voice gradually softened as her gaze fell on Feng Su. “He looks just like him, so much like him.”
My gaze followed Jin Yu's and fell on Feng Su. I began to understand the true identity of Jin Yu.
"Jinyu, we're about to leave the Abyss." I paused. "Can you tell me your true identity?"
Seeing that Jin Yu was about to speak with her usual forced smile, I quickly interrupted, "Don't tell me this time that you're just a lowly demon."
Jin Yu's smile slowly froze on her face. She let out a long breath and said, "That's right, I'm not some lowly demon." Jin Yu smiled at me, "My story is boring, do you want to hear it?"
I nodded.
Jin Yu gazed at the distant border with a hint of nostalgia. "I was born in the abyss, and I don't know how many years I've spent here. My mother has been in poor health since I can remember. She would often drag her ailing body to tell me stories—stories of the four celestial spirits, of wars between gods and demons, of sunshine and rain, of the changing seasons. My mother's stories were unbelievable to a little child like me; I thought the world was as dark and barren as the abyss. I was immersed in the paradise my mother wove for me all day long. But this didn't last long; my mother's illness finally took its toll."
I am grief-stricken, heartbroken. I look around and see no sunlight, no hope, only darkness. For so many years, my only belief has been to escape this abyss and reach the paradise my mother spoke of. I left my luxurious greenhouse and wandered alone in the abyss. I tried countless methods, but all failed. The external energy felt like it could tear my body apart; one step and I would die without a burial. I am not afraid of death, but I want to see the outside world, even just a glimpse, and then I will die with honor.
After listening, I patted Jinyu on the shoulder and said, "Your wish will come true soon. You can not only take a look, but you can also run wild and travel all over the world. As long as you don't do anything bad, no one will stop you."
