As soon as I got off the carriage, I saw everyone gathered around the campfire. Pots and grills were already set up, and the little demons were orderly carrying various ingredients from another carriage.
"Where are your friends?" Yuejiao walked towards me and asked, raising an eyebrow when she saw that no one was behind me.
“They’re sleeping.” I turned my gaze from the food to Yuejiao.
Yuejiao nodded and said nothing more. The atmosphere instantly dropped to freezing point and became a little awkward. I was wondering whether I should say something to ease the awkwardness when a little demon ran over to Yuejiao and me and said that the food was ready.
I gave the little demon a grateful look, but she didn't seem to receive it and turned to fetch food for us.
"Brother You, please." Yue Jiao gestured for him to enter, revealing his fair, well-defined hand.
"These hands are so beautiful," I couldn't help but think to myself as I walked toward the restaurant.
I was already drawn in by the aroma of the freshly grilled meat, and my stomach was rumbling. As soon as I sat down, I wanted to reach for it, but I glanced at Yuejiao next to me and held back.
No, I can't appear too greedy. After all, I'm a renowned Nine Heavens Emperor in the Immortal Realm; I have to maintain my dignity.
After Yuejiao sat down, I casually picked up a piece of meat I had been eyeing for a long time and slowly put it in my mouth. The taste of the roasted meat exploded in my mouth and I almost couldn't resist eating it all in one bite.
The roasted meat made by Yuejiao's subordinates is just as good as that from the City Lord's Mansion, and even tastier. And this is outdoors; I wonder if it would taste even better indoors.
I secretly thought to myself, resisting the urge to eat it all at once and chewing slowly, as the saying goes, "one should not speak while eating or sleeping." But Yuejiao didn't seem to think that way. Yuejiao kept staring at me as if she had something to say.
I couldn't stand being stared at any longer, so I quickly finished the steak and swallowed it, then looked at Yue Jiao and asked, "Do you have something to say?"
When Yuejiao saw me questioning him, he turned his face away and remained silent.
What's going on? He keeps staring at me, but he won't tell me when I ask. The more I think about it, the more uneasy I feel. Could he be planning something to hurt me?
Just as a hundred different scenarios were playing out in my mind, Yue Jiao suddenly spoke up, "Even if you are the emperor's honored guest, don't even think about taking my precious child away from me."
"What?" I snapped out of my daze and was momentarily stunned. I steadied myself and said, "Jiao'er doesn't like you now. If you can't let go of him, why did you hurt him back then? Do you really want to drive Jiao'er to his death before you stop?"
Yue Jiao glanced at me. "Our affairs are none of your business." Then she curled her lips into a mocking smile. "If he doesn't like me, does he like you?"
Yuejiao's answer left me even more confused. Could it be that he thought I was a man and that he liked Manjiao?
I cautiously asked, "Do you know who I am?"
“You Di is Your Majesty’s distinguished guest.”
"Anything else?"
Yue Jiao replied impatiently, "That's all. No matter who you are, you can't take Jiao'er from me. Even if you go to the Emperor, it won't help. I will never give up Jiao'er."
Upon hearing Yue Jiao's answer, I felt as if the world had suddenly become surreal. He didn't know who I was? Then why did he rush to Sun and Moon City to find Sun and Moon Lord after seeing my flute? Were all my previous deductions wrong?
"You don't know who I am? Why did you rush to see Lord Sun and Moon after seeing my flute?"
Yue Jiao's alluring eyes narrowed dangerously. "You're spying on me?" Then, as if remembering something, she added, "Indeed, someone who can make His Majesty so concerned and nervous is no ordinary person."
