Chapter 31 Shock (2/2)

Every shot was fatal.

The assassins couldn't detect the bullets at all; they could only hear a deafening gunshot before their comrade inexplicably lay on the ground with a bloody hole in his body.

So weird!

Too fantastic!

"Bang bang bang bang -"

All the suicide soldiers who rushed forward were killed. How could a person's speed possibly match that of bullets?

How could one possibly dodge a weapon that is moving at hundreds of meters per second?

In less than half an hour, at a distance of three or four hundred meters, the last assassin who tried to escape to report the news was killed. The road was covered with a dense mass of corpses, and blood stained the entire ground.

A gentle breeze carried the strong stench of blood into everyone's nostrils.

As the sun set, the crimson hue on the horizon resembled blood spilled on it, so strikingly red that it sent chills down one's spine.

"Thud..."

Someone's longsword fell to the ground.

"Thud..."

Someone's spear rolled on the ground.

"Thud..."

Some people were so shocked their jaws dropped.

A dozen loyal subordinates stared wide-eyed at the powerful assassins who were already dead without them even lifting a finger! Three hundred men! Three hundred experts!

In the blink of an eye, they were all dead.

There was no fierce fighting!

There was no fighting or bloodshed!

No one was ever sent to the front lines to die in their place!

"General... this... this... are we really not dreaming? What kind of strange weapon is in your bundle? How did these assassins just... disappear like that?"

"I wondered why the general even slept with a bundle in his arms. I thought it contained a keepsake between the young master and his wife, but I never imagined it was like this!"

"Thirteen, is this what you meant by 'taking someone else's place'? Doesn't the general care at all about the bond we've forged through life and death?"

After calming down from the shock...

All the subordinates' eyes turned to Thirteen.

Thirteen, with half his face injured by the explosion, sat blankly on the ground littered with shattered corpses. He looked around at the horrific scene before looking up at General Zhou, who was unharmed.

A click sound.

It feels like some kind of understanding has shattered.

Thirteen raised his hand and touched his burning, stinging face, only to find his hand covered in blood and tears.

"How could this be... How could this be... You chose us to go to the border with you, weren't you just sending us to our deaths? You chose us to lead us to a way out?"

"But haven't you already colluded with the Xiongnu?"

"You're rebelling! You're a traitor! You're doomed to lose! How could you possess such a terrifying weapon?"

"How could this happen..." Thirteen shook his head, his thoughts in complete disarray.

He always thought so.

General Zhou is a hypocrite who is two-faced!

On the surface, he is loyal and righteous, with the world in his heart. He rescues the helpless orphans on the border and raises them by his side from a young age, giving them a chance to live.

In reality, he is selfish, scheming, and willing to collude with the Xiongnu to indiscriminately kill innocent people for the sake of power. Saving them was not out of kindness, but rather to make them a convenient shield for him.

Thirteen initially didn't believe it, but recent facts and evidence have gradually led him to believe it.

But now—

These pieces of evidence became sharp knives piercing his own heart. For a moment, he couldn't understand why the logic he had been brainwashed by Emperor Yan couldn't be reconciled under the power of grenades and pistols.

“Thirteen.” The familiar and dignified square face looked at him and spoke.

This time,

General Zhou's gaze towards him was no longer gentle or tolerant.

Instead, he was met with disappointment and indifference that he never wanted to see in his life: "After all these years, don't you still know what kind of person I am?"
