(Sorry for the late update)
I stared at the cookie in my hand, stunned. Was it the last cookie?
I twisted the cookie, breaking it in half, and handed it to her, saying, "Let's each have half."
Wu Shuang stared at the cookie, her eyes widening for a moment, before raising her hand to refuse, saying, "No, no, you eat it. I'm not hungry."
"Didn't you say this was the last piece? Let's split it in half."
"No need." Wu Shuang's eyes darted around, and she gave an awkward smile. "Actually, I still have some."
As she spoke, she pulled a bag of cookies out of her clothes. I looked inside and saw that there were two cookies left.
"..." This girl! I didn't know what to say, so I decisively stuffed the biscuit in my hand into my mouth, chewed it a couple of times, and then swallowed it.
Time flies, much faster than I imagined.
At night, after eating the last two cookies, I was still hungry, but I was defeated by exhaustion. Listening to the roars coming from outside the door, I fell into a deep sleep.
When I woke up, the sunlight outside the window was glaring and harsh, and I was so glad that I was still alive.
Looking at Wu Shuang, I noticed that she looked really beautiful when the sunlight fell on her face.
I stood up, washed my face, and then put my ear to the door to listen to the sounds outside. I didn't hear any shouting.
So, I mustered my courage, opened the door, and looked outside. I discovered that the group of monsters had disappeared from the corridor outside the laboratory; I had no idea where they had gone.
However, although the monster in the corridor is gone, the monster in the laboratory is still there!
This makes me lack the courage to go out.
"What are you doing?" Suddenly, Wu Shuang's question almost scared me to death.
I carefully closed the door and said, "Let me check the situation outside."
"How's it going outside?" Wu Shuang asked. She wanted to stand up, but after standing up, she sat down again, looking a little conflicted.
"The monster in the corridor is gone, but the one in the lab is still there," I said. At that moment, I noticed her condition; she looked unwell, so I asked, "Are you alright?"
Wu Shuang looked at me somewhat embarrassed and said, "I, I want to... go to the toilet."
"Well..." I lowered my head and scratched my nose, feeling a little embarrassed. Her words made me feel like I needed to go to the bathroom too.
Fortunately, we are both doctors, so we have fewer concerns in this regard than ordinary people. Therefore, with our backs to each other, we each solved our own problems.
"What should we do next?" Wu Shuang asked me.
I had no idea, so I could only shake my head and say, "I don't know."
"We can't just wait here forever. We're out of food. What do you think, should we go out and try?" Wu Shuang asked me, her eyes wide.
I don't know, I really don't know what to do. If it were Zhou Yang, what would he do? Knowing his personality, he would probably have already rushed out to find a way to survive.
But I'm not him, I don't have that guts.
Thinking of Zhou Yang brings a pang of pain to my heart. If it weren't for Zhang Jianzhou, he might still be alive. Recalling his expression before he died, I clenched my fists.
I wonder how his girlfriend, Xiaoxiao, is doing now.
"Hey, I'm asking you, do you think we should go out and give it a try?" Wu Shuang nudged me.
I pulled myself out of my thoughts, shook my head, and said, "I dare not."
Wu Shuang didn't look down on me for this. She just nodded and said, "Okay, I don't dare either. Let's just wait. Maybe a kind person will come to our rescue."
I didn't refute her; having hope is a good thing.
I don't know how long I can hold on. My stomach is so hungry that I've lost all feeling of hunger.
We hid under the table together, feeling utterly bored.
Are we really just going to keep waiting like this? Waiting for someone to come and rescue us?
This is clearly unrealistic.
Perhaps only we ourselves can save us.
Time passed by, and before we knew it, we both fell asleep again. I don't know if we were actually asleep, or maybe we just fainted from hunger.
...
When I woke up again, I found that the sunlight outside had turned into a dim sunset. I glanced at my watch and it was already 4:30 in the afternoon.
Did I sleep all day?
Rubbing his sleepy eyes, he suddenly felt something pressing on his leg. Looking down, he saw it was Wu Shuang's head.
She used my legs as a pillow.
I feel completely weak; I don't even have the strength to stretch.
"You're awake." Suddenly, Wu Shuang, who was leaning against my lap, said something.
I was taken aback and asked, "You're not asleep?"
"I woke up a few minutes earlier than you," Wu Shuang said, her voice sounding weak and listless.
I yawned and looked at the sunset outside. Another day has passed just like that.
I have no idea what the outside world has become.
"Hey, I'm so bored, let's chat, okay?" Wu Shuang said.
"Okay, what do you want to talk about?" I asked.
Do you have a girlfriend?
"No," I said, shaking my head.
Do you have a boyfriend?
"..." I smiled wryly, "No."
"And who is the person you like?"
"No, I don't think so," I said again.
As a result, after I finished speaking, Wu Shuang reached out and hit me, saying, "Hey, how can you be so boring? I ask you anything and you say no. I don't believe you don't have a girl you like."
I didn't want to answer that question, so I asked, "And you, do you have a boy you like?"
"Yes, of course! I just don't know if he's still alive. You know, I was planning to confess to him after get off work yesterday, and I even bought him a gift. It's in my pocket, do you want to see it? It's a really cool and stylish watch!"
I shook my head and said, "No, that's a gift you gave to someone you like. How can you show it to me? Maybe he's still alive, and maybe you'll run into him someday."
"Really?" she asked incredulously.
"real."
"Then I believe you." Wu Shuang laughed.
I squinted, a sudden pang of pain shooting through my mind as Zhou Yang's dying words echoed in my head.
I took a deep breath and said, my heart trembling, "Let's go out."
"What?" Wu Shuang turned her head and stared at me in surprise with her big eyes.
I looked at her and said seriously, "I'm saying, let's go out. Staying here will only lead to death, while going out is the only way to survive. Besides, I promised someone something; I'm going to go out and find a girl."
Zhou Yang is dead, but Xiao Xiao might still be alive. I need to find her and help Zhou Yang fulfill his wish!
"Really!" Wu Shuang asked in surprise.
“Yes, I’m serious, I have to do this,” I nodded and said.
