Chapter 11 Gunshots

(This is the first update; there will be more tonight.)

Going out might mean either death or survival, but staying here means certain death.

"Then, what should we do now? Should we just go out?" Wu asked anxiously.

I shook my head and said, "Let's see what's going on outside first."

I stood up, stretched my tired body, and carefully opened the door. I saw the monster from the lab lingering near the doorway.

I turned to Wu Shuang and said, "That guy's at the door, we need to find a way to kill him!"

Wu Shuang nodded, picked up a microscope and said, "Can we shoot him in the head? That's how it's done in the movies."

Movie? I paused for a moment, then suddenly remembered that these monsters, like the zombies in movies, are man-eating. I wondered if smashing their heads could kill them.

I shook my head with a wry smile and said, "I don't know, let's give it a try, it's the only way."

I took the microscope from her and said, "You stay behind me. If anything happens to me, run, understand?"

"Don't worry, if anything really happens to you, I'll definitely save you!" Wu Shuang said earnestly, staring at me.

I felt slightly embarrassed, then made a shushing gesture, opened the door, and quietly walked out of the room.

Wu Shuang followed behind me, and we walked around the experimental table in front of us, heading straight for the monster at the door. We held our breath and dared not make a sound.

The white coat on the monster was covered in blood, and the entire laboratory reeked of blood; it smelled disgusting.

We kept getting closer, and after a moment, I was only a meter away from the monster, but I stopped in my tracks, hesitant to take another step.

Wu Shuang looked at me and asked in a low voice, "Should I do it?"

"It's okay, I can manage," I said, taking a deep breath and continuing to walk forward, with Wu Shuang following closely behind me.

Crack!

Suddenly, Wu Shuang's foot accidentally hit a piece of glass, making a sound.

The zombie at the door turned around and stared at us instantly, and we were so frightened that we didn't dare to move.

The monster lunged at me without hesitation, and I raised the microscope in my hand and smashed it directly at it.

With a "plop," I saw the monster's face smashed open, its eyeballs popping out, blood splattering everywhere.

But it didn't stop; it pounced on me, and I lost my balance, so it knocked me to the ground again.

"Wu Shuang, run!" I shouted, and the back of my head slammed hard against the ground, knocking me unconscious.

Then, in a daze, I saw Wu Shuang pick up a monitor from the lab table and smash it on the monster's head.

The monster's head was smashed to pieces, and my face and body were covered in blood.

"Hey, hey, Lu Xiaonan, are you alright?" Wu Shuang patted my face and asked.

I shook my head, rubbed the back of my head, and it took me a minute or two to come to my senses. "It's okay, thank you."

Wu Shuang patted my shoulder and said, "I told you, I would definitely save you."

"Thank you," I said again, suddenly feeling incredibly embarrassed.

Without thinking much about it, I sat on the stool and rested for a while until my head was no longer dizzy. Then I stood up again and leaned against the window with Wu Shuang, looking out at the corridor.

The corridor was quiet, and apart from the bloodstains on the floor, there were no monsters around.

Clearly, they were all drawn to sounds from other places.

Thinking about this, an idea came to mind.

Turning around, I rummaged around on the lab bench for a while and found a box of glass slides, which I promptly put in my pocket.

Wu Shuang looked at my actions with some confusion and asked, "What are you going to do with this? You can't kill those monsters."

I rummaged through the things on the table, picking up anything lightweight, and said, "Aren't those monsters quite sensitive to sound? We can use these things to attract their attention, so they won't notice us."

“Right, then I’ll go find something too.” Wu Shuang agreed with my idea. She found a lot of things on the table and put them in her pockets. Then she went to the shelf in the corner and took down two hollow iron rods, giving one to me.

Holding the stick, I felt not excitement, but fear.

The creatures outside are not to be trifled with; they are man-eating monsters.

Ever since those people turned into monsters the day before yesterday, I've been terrified every moment. Even when I was hiding inside the house, I was always worried that the monsters outside would rush in.

The idea of suddenly rushing out to find a way to survive really scares me, even though it was my own suggestion.

Seeing that my expression was a little strange, Wu Shuang reached out and held the back of my hand, saying calmly, "We will survive."

I closed my eyes, forced an awkward smile, and nodded. "Maybe."

I took a deep breath, turned the lock on the front door, carefully opened it a crack, peeked outside, and after confirming there were no monsters, closed the door and shook my head at Wu Shuang.

Wu Shuang asked, "Which way should we go? Left or right?"

I thought about it, and the reason we were forced into the lab by the monsters was mainly because there were too many monsters in the infusion area on the left. But if you go to the right, you'll be near the emergency room, and I remember there were many monsters there too.

After thinking it over, I said, "Let's go to the right; it's closer to the exit there."

After Wu Shuang agreed, I opened the door and peeked out. I couldn't see any monsters on either side of the corridor.
