Looking in the direction Liangzi was pointing, we saw that the path ahead was full of man-eating monsters. They were huddled together, staggering, and seemed to be eating people.
The car engine roared loudly, and the moment it stopped, it attracted the attention of the group of man-eating monsters on the small road ahead.
They all turned around and ran towards this side.
Fei Lichao's expression changed drastically, and he shouted, "Liangzi, get out of the car! You two too, get out of the car!"
"Yes, Captain!" Liangzi answered without hesitation, cocked his gun, opened the car door, and jumped out.
"Why, why are we getting off the bus?!" I was stunned, holding my water bottle, completely bewildered. There were so many man-eating monsters outside; wouldn't it be safer to stay on the bus? Why did we have to get off?
After Fei Lichao got out of the car, he opened the back door, grabbed my collar, and pulled me out of the car, cursing, "Shut the hell up! If you want to live, you'd better listen to me!"
Wu Shuang pulled me out of the car with my white coat and followed closely behind Fei Lichao.
After getting off the bus, I realized why Fei Lichao made this decision.
We are now in a gated community. Apart from the road leading out in front, which is full of man-eating monsters, there are countless monsters all around us!
If we stay in the car, and eventually get surrounded by monsters, we'll only face certain death.
"Liangzi, go inside the building!" Fei Lichao said, then fired a shot at one of the approaching monsters.
Liangzi continued to lead the way, and Fei Lichao pulled us to catch up.
A moment later, gunshots rang out. After killing a number of monsters, Liangzi led us through the back door of a building.
As soon as they entered, Fei Lichao closed the back door, and the monsters outside crashed into it one by one, making loud thuds.
The back door is a standard iron door, very sturdy, so the monsters outside can't break in.
I sat on the stairs, swallowed hard, and gripped the kettle in my hand, which trembled constantly.
Fei Lichao stood at the doorway, observing the outside situation through the gaps in the fence above the back door.
"Captain, what do we do now? The back door is blocked..."
"Alright, enough nonsense. Go upstairs and check the situation. If it's alright, let's rest for a bit. There are plenty of ways to get out, no need to rush," Fei Lichao said.
"Yes." Liangzi accepted the order and ran upstairs.
The monster outside the door roared incessantly. I glanced up, then closed my eyes and lowered my head again.
It's not that I'm afraid to look, it's that I don't want to.
Seeing my actions, Fei Lichao sneered and asked, "Hey, aren't you a doctor? What are you afraid of?"
“They eat people,” Wu Shuang said, voicing my thoughts.
Of course, I'm not afraid of bloodshed; what haven't doctors seen? I've seen even the most disgusting scenes. What I'm truly afraid of is the fact that they might eat people.
Fei Lichao was speechless and didn't make things difficult for me anymore.
I understand that his sarcastic remark stemmed from his disbelief that I was a real doctor, but I can't blame him; after all, I'm just an intern.
A moment later, Liangzi came downstairs and said, "Captain, the door on the third floor is open. I've already checked it, and there's no one inside. Do you want to go and rest for a bit?"
"Let's go upstairs!" he said, and went upstairs first.
"Let's go." I took Wu Shuang's hand and followed behind them.
Liangzi looked at us and said, "Shh, keep your voice down. There are monsters on the fourth floor. Don't lure them down."
We tiptoed up to the third floor, entered the room, and carefully closed the door before finally breathing a sigh of relief.
I glanced around the room; there were signs of disturbance everywhere. The refrigerator door was open, and the cabinets on the wall were open, but the whole room was clean, with no bloodstains.
This indicates that the owner of the house had already fled.
Fei Lichao and Liangzi checked the house again to make sure no one was there before they felt relieved.
Only after confirming that there was no danger did I sit on the sofa and completely relax.
Fei Lichao approached and asked, "We haven't finished talking about what happened before. Tell me, can you treat illnesses?"
I looked up at him; he was gripping the gun tightly in his hand.
I clenched my fist, and the cold wind blowing in from the window made me shiver. I said, "Yes, but I'm only a second-year intern now. I can treat patients, but I can only perform some simple surgeries."
Fei Lichao's eyes were still full of doubt as he nodded and said, "Okay, I'll believe you for now. But if you dare to lie to me when we get back, I'll shoot you dead!"
Wu Shuang stood to the side, not daring to speak, but simply squeezed my hand to comfort me.
Fei Lichao was no longer in a difficult position. He pointed to the room and said, "You two go change into clean clothes, then rest for ten minutes, and we'll leave here."
"I understand." I was a little scared and didn't dare to look Fei Lichao in the eye. I pulled Wu Shuang into the bedroom with me.
There must be clean clothes inside.
When I got to the bedroom, I opened the wardrobe and saw a lot of clothes hanging inside. I took out a few that fit me and took off the blood-stained white coat I was wearing.
Wu Shuang opened the other wardrobe, wanting to find clothes, but found only quilts inside.
She walked to the wardrobe next to the bed and opened it.
In an instant, two people climbed out from inside.
"Ah!" Wu Shuang screamed in fright.
Holy crap! I was scared half to death by the people in those two cabinets too.
