Chapter 26 The Man Who Returned at Dawn

Pu Weichao stared wide-eyed, surprised, "Aren't you being a little too hasty?"

“Waiting another day increases the risk of infection. It’s better to be direct and confront the people in the air-raid shelter tomorrow, then go out to find supplies and a suitable place to live. Wouldn’t that keep them quiet for a few more days?” Fei Lichao said.

Pu Weichao said with a wry smile, "That makes sense, but have you considered what would happen if they cause trouble after you set aside the costs for them tomorrow?"

When I heard him say that, I couldn't help but smile to myself.

Fei Lichao patted the pistol at his waist and said, "Nobody dares to cause trouble right now."

“Alright.” Pu Weichao rolled his eyes and continued to ponder, “Since you’ve already made this decision, I think it’s necessary to go to the hospital first before we leave tomorrow.”

"Why?" Fei Lichao asked.

I looked at him, a little puzzled, wondering why he wanted to go to the hospital first.

Pu Weichao glanced at me and said, "Food can be found anywhere, in any supermarket or small shop. But medicine is different. It's better to have it than not, especially antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. You'll definitely need them for minor illnesses in the future! Besides, medicine has a long shelf life, so you don't have to worry about it expiring. Don't you think so?"

Fei Lichao turned to look at me, "What do you think?"

I said, "It is indeed very necessary. Given the current situation, there are no hospitals left. If you get sick, you definitely can't do without medicine on hand."

Pu Weichao is absolutely right; medicine is definitely necessary.

Without medicine, in the future, a single flu could claim many lives.

Fei Lichao agreed and said, "Then I'll take you to the hospital to find medicine tomorrow. As for supplies and accommodation, I'll send someone else to find them."

“I’ll go too,” Pu Weichao said.

Fei Lichao frowned and stared at him. "What are you going to do?"

Pu Weichao raised an eyebrow and said, "More people means more help, and I won't be a burden to you. More people means more money, don't you think?"

“No.” Fei Lichao refused decisively.

"..." Pu Weichao looked like he had swallowed a fly.

The time that followed felt a bit extravagant and superfluous. We chatted about many things, including learning about the relationship between Shen Lei, who kicked me during the day, and Xiao Li—they were actually gay.

As for Pu Weichao, he has been trying to persuade Fei Lichao to take him along tomorrow.

He was tired of staying in the air-raid shelter these days and wanted to go out for some fresh air.

But Fei Lichao refused to agree.

The reason is simple: I'm afraid something might happen.

Although Fei Lichao's reasoning was impeccable, I still felt it was a bit extreme. I've also experienced what's happening outside. If you just stay in the air-raid shelter and don't go out to face it, you probably won't be able to face all of this in your entire life, let alone kill these monsters.

"Hey, Captain Fei, before I met you, I had lived outside and killed a few monsters. You're not giving me any chance at all. How am I supposed to face these man-eating monsters in the future? Dr. Lu, don't you think so?"

I nodded silently.

Fei Lichao said, "Alright, you don't need to say anything more about this. I won't agree. Tomorrow I'll take Dr. Lu out. As for you, you better stay here obediently, understand?"

Pu Weichao rolled his eyes, feeling helpless, and didn't argue further.

Since Fei Lichao absolutely refused, there was nothing that could be done.

"Alright, it's already ten o'clock. Let's go back to sleep and get up early tomorrow so we can leave early."

Before heading back, I asked, "Captain, is the child alright?"

Fei Lichao nodded and said, "I've had someone keeping an eye on things. If anything happens, someone will notify me. Besides, Beibei hasn't changed at all, which means everything is fine, right?"

I shook my head and said, "I don't know. Judging from what's happened to Beibei, it's probably been two days already. If nothing happens in another two days, then she's probably really alright."

"Well, I hope everything's really alright," Fei Lichao said worriedly.

Back in the warehouse, I lay down to sleep by the wall.

Wu Shuang then lay down beside me and whispered, "What did Captain Fei want you to do?"

I closed my eyes, feeling very tired, and said, "I'll go to the hospital tomorrow to get some medicine."

"Mm," Wu Shuang responded, and then said nothing more.

I thought she would ask more questions, so after thinking about it, I continued, "And then there's finding a place to stay."

"Where are you staying?" Wu Shuang asked in surprise. "Did Captain Fei really listen to that Pu Weichao?"

“I think Pu Weichao is right. And Captain Fei agrees, so it’s settled.” I said.

"Hmm." Wu Shuang nodded, pondered for a long time, and said, "By the way, about that Zhou Yang's girlfriend Jiang Xiaoxiao you mentioned before."

"What's wrong?" I asked, puzzled.

"Do you think she might still be at school and hasn't escaped?" Wu Shuang asked.

I was taken aback. Suddenly I remembered that when I was in the hospital, Xiaoxiao had called Zhou Yang. Zhou Yang told Xiaoxiao to stay in the dormitory and not go anywhere. So, after all these days, she is probably still stuck at school.

“Very likely,” I said.

"If we have time, should we ask Captain Fei to go to the school to look for her, and also to find my boyfriend?" Wu Shuang asked.

"It's possible, but Captain Fei has to agree first."

“I think he will definitely agree,” Wu Shuang said.

I gave a wry smile, closed my eyes, and fell into a deep sleep.
