Chapter 26 The Man Who Returned at Dawn

I'm exhausted today.

I close my eyes and fall asleep without dreams.

Nothing was said that night.

I don't know how much time has passed...

"ah!"

Suddenly, a scream rang out, startling me. At first, I thought I was dreaming, so I didn't react.

But Wu Shuang, who was next to me, was suddenly startled awake. She sat up and nudged me, "Xiao Nan, Xiao Nan! Wake up!"

"What's wrong?" I asked groggily, turning over, wanting to go back to sleep.

Wu Shuang hurriedly nudged me, waking me up, and said urgently, "Did you hear anything just now?"

"What's that sound?" I opened my eyes, but everything was pitch black, and I wasn't even sure if I had actually opened my eyes.

"I don't know, it sounded like a scream."

"Are you dreaming?" I said.

“Impossible! I heard it very clearly, it came from outside the warehouse!” Wu Shuang said.

A scream? I'm a little confused. I think I just heard a scream. Could it be that I wasn't dreaming and that I really heard it?

But who would scream for no reason in an air-raid shelter?

"Liu Yun and her son!" The thought jolted me awake. I grabbed the flashlight from beside me, turned it on, and Wu and I stared at each other, a sense of foreboding creeping into our hearts.

"Let's go take a look!" I said, pulling Wu Shuang outside the warehouse.

The people in the air-raid shelter were still asleep, and there were quite a few snoring sounds.

Because of special circumstances, Liu Yun and her son were locked in a room by Fei Lichao. Wu Shuang and I walked through the crisscrossing crowd, shining flashlights as we arrived at the door. We were about to push the door open when we found it was half-closed.

I pushed open the door, and the beam of my flashlight shone in, revealing the situation inside the room.

Wu Shuang and I froze at the doorway, our expressions strange.

Inside the house, Liu Yun and her child were being held together by a disheveled man. Liu Yun was crying uncontrollably, as was the man; both of them were very emotional.

Wu Shuang and I exchanged a glance and breathed a sigh of relief.

Fei Lichao had previously mentioned that Liu Yun's husband was his comrade-in-arms, which was clearly the disheveled man in front of them.
