Chapter 377 Split Operations

Dealing with the thirty-odd zombies wasn't difficult. Half of them were wearing white coats, while the rest were either in military uniforms or civilian clothes.

After dealing with the zombies, I tapped the wall with my knife at the door. The sound carried into the research institute. We waited outside for more than ten minutes, but no zombies came out. So Lu Yun went in first to check things out.

I waited at the door.

Jingjie was getting a little impatient waiting outside, so she climbed in after them.

"how's it going?"

I said, "Lu Yun went in to check, and we'll know the specific situation inside when she comes out."

Jingjie looked at the gate in front of her, not worried. If only zombies remained in the research institute, then there was nothing to worry about. If there were living people inside, then perhaps she would need to be concerned. However, this research institute had probably been closed for about half a year, so it was unlikely that there were any living people inside.

Twelve minutes later, Lu Yun walked out unharmed, knife in hand.

"What's the situation inside?" I asked.

Lu Yun said, "I didn't see any zombies inside, but many doors were locked, so I couldn't get in."

I nodded and asked, "Is that all?"

Lu Yun shook her head and said, "That's all. I didn't see anything else. It seems like the only zombies are at the entrance. Oh, right, the place I just went to was the cafeteria and some rooms on the second floor. I can't go up to the third floor; the door at the top of the stairs was locked. Actually, there's no danger inside. We can go in without any problem."

I said, "Let's be cautious. I'll go in with you and take a look first. As for the places we can't get into, Wen Guochao, do you have a solution?"

Wen Guochao said, "There are solutions, but I have a better one that can solve all the problems of this research institute."

"What method?" I asked, puzzled.

Wen Guochao said with a smile, "Restore the power supply to this research institute."

"Restore power!" I exclaimed in surprise. "Are you sure you can do that?"

Wen Guochao said, "As long as the power supply system of this research institute is not broken and the solar panels on top should still be usable, it should be possible. However, it may take some time to restore full power."

I said, "If this research institute can get its power back, wouldn't we be able to live here?"

Suddenly I'm starting to feel a bit hopeful!

If the research institute can really restore power, our lives will be greatly improved. Electricity is the only energy source that guarantees modern life. Since the zombie outbreak, the social system has collapsed, and the disappearance of electricity has set the entire society back hundreds of years.

Sister Jing said, "Yes, if we had electricity, our lives would be much more convenient."

Wen Guochao seemed a little embarrassed by what we said and said, "Well, don't get your hopes up too high. If there's a problem with the power system, I won't be able to restore the power supply."

I said, "Let's do our best. If we can do it, we might be able to live here. If we can't, it's okay if we leave."

Wen Guochao nodded, "Okay, I'll try my best."

Afterwards, Sister Jing stayed outside, while Wen Guochao, Lu Yun, and I went into the research institute.

Lu Yun had already been here, so she was familiar with the situation on the other side. With her guidance, we went straight upstairs.

The research institute was pitch black. We took flashlights to illuminate the way ahead and followed Lu Yun to the second floor. It was still pitch black, even eerie.

"It's quite cool inside," I said carelessly, looking around.

Wen Guochao looked at me and said, "Don't you find it creepy?"

I laughed and said, "It's alright, there are no zombies here, it's just a bit dark."

When we arrived at the stairwell leading to the third floor, we found a door blocking our way. The door was locked, and we couldn't get in.

Lu Yun said, "This is it."

Wen Guochao shone his flashlight on the lock, breathed a sigh of relief, and said, "This lock is very easy to open; you can just pry it open."

His words left us speechless, but since he said so, we decided to pick the lock.

Bang!

In just a few moments, the door in front of them was pried open.

The flashlight shone into the doorway. No zombies came out, but once inside, we could still smell a foul stench of decay.

I said, "There should be zombies up there. Lu Yun, you go first and be careful."

Lu Yun went up to the third floor first, and we followed behind her.

The corridor leading to the third floor wasn't dark, because the windows at the corner weren't sealed off like those on the first to second floors; sunlight could shine through, making the corridor quite bright.

After we got to the third floor, the stench of corpses became even stronger, but we didn't hear any zombie roars.

The flashlight illuminated the entire third floor, and we immediately saw what was happening on the third floor.

There were three mutilated corpses lying on the ground, almost completely decomposed. Besides that, there were quite a few rooms on the third floor, and I even saw a kitchen.

Lu Yun covered her nose and went into the rooms to check them out. After coming out, she said, "There are no zombies."

This relieved us, and I asked, "What's in those rooms?"

Lu Yun said, "They are all bedrooms, and each room has a bed."

Wen Guochao said, "So the third floor is a living area."

I said, "Since there are no zombies, let's hurry up and get the electricity sorted out. Once that's done, we'll basically be able to live here."

Without hesitation, the three of us began searching for the electrical room, and eventually we found it in a corner on the third floor.

Once inside, I basically couldn't understand anything about it.

Wen Guochao was quite familiar with it and started fiddling with it.

I noticed that Wen Guochao was completely absorbed in his work and didn't say a word. Lu Yun and I didn't disturb him. Lu Yun was bored, so she wandered around the rooms aimlessly.

Not long after, Lu Yun found a few disposable masks and handed them to me, and also gave one to Wen Guochao.

The smell on the third floor is indeed awful; wearing a mask makes it a little more comfortable.

Ten minutes later, Sister Jing, who was waiting downstairs, seemed a little impatient, and the walkie-talkie hanging on my waist rang.

"Xiaonan, how are you? Are you alright?"

I picked up the walkie-talkie and said, "Sister Jing, we're fine, things should be alright in a bit..."

Bang!

Just as I finished speaking, Wen Guochao flipped the main switch, and instantly, a buzzing sound rang out, and the entire house, including the entire third floor outside, lit up instantly.

I watched this scene in astonishment.

Wen Guochao wiped the sweat from his brow and laughed, "Finally done!"

"Really, it works!" I exclaimed in surprise.

"We have power!" Lu Yun said happily.
