"Ah!" I screamed in pain as the little girl tied the rope above my wound.
The car continued driving forward. I didn't know which way Sister Jing and the others went, but they must have left Ninghai. Li Jiaming definitely didn't want to stay here and face danger. Zhou Qingya had long since lost her own opinion, and only Sister Jing could make the decision.
I know Jingjie well, so I knew she would definitely go back to the research institute.
I took out my walkie-talkie and contacted Sister Jing. A short while later, Sister Jing spoke up.
"Xiaonan, you escaped?" Sister Jing asked worriedly.
I said weakly, "Yes, we escaped and are leaving Ninghai now. What about you? Where are you now?"
Jingjie said, "We found a car and are now going back the way we came, leaving along the same route we came from."
I remember that road. I said, "I understand. Contact me every half hour. You don't need to stop and wait for me. I think the raiders will definitely not let me go. They will probably catch up. If you need anything, just let me know. I will also let you know if anything happens on my end."
Sister Jing said, "Okay, then be careful. I'll slow down. Hurry up and get on, okay?"
I said, "I understand, I'll catch up with you soon."
After putting down the walkie-talkie, the little girl asked from the side, "Brother Xiaonan, you're like this now, why don't we find a place to rest for a while?"
I glanced at the little girl, licked my dry lips, and said, "If we stop, the raiders behind us will definitely catch up. By the way, can you drive?"
The little girl nodded and said, "I think so. Sister Qingya taught me, but I don't drive it much."
I said, "It's very simple. This car is automatic. You just need to step on the gas and hold the steering wheel. Keep this speed and this direction, and you don't need to worry about anything else."
"Oh, oh." The little girl nodded.
I immediately stopped the car and let the little girl sit in the driver's seat. I sat in the passenger seat and watched her for a while. After seeing that she was alright, I felt relieved.
I immediately took out the first-aid kit from the back. This car originally belonged to us, but I didn't expect them to drive it directly over.
This has made things much easier for me.
I tore open my trouser leg and looked at the penetrating wound on my calf; it hurt terribly.
I opened the first-aid kit, took out some disinfectant cotton and sutures, and treated myself. After doing so, my forehead was covered in cold sweat, and my hands were trembling as I wrapped myself in gauze. Only then was I finished.
I leaned back in my chair, panting.
"Brother Xiaonan, you're amazing!" the little girl said.
I gave a wry smile. "Alright, where are we now?"
The little girl said, "I don't know either. I just drove according to the route you told me."
I looked around; the place seemed unfamiliar, but we hadn't left Ninghai yet, and we weren't on the provincial highway we'd been on before, so it was still early.
Just then, the walkie-talkie crackled to life, and Sister Jing's voice came through: "Xiaonan, where are you?"
I picked up the walkie-talkie, swallowed hard, and said, "I don't know where I am right now. I haven't reached the overpass yet."
Sister Jing said, "We're waiting for you on the elevated road right now. Please come over quickly."
I said, "I know, it shouldn't be far, we'll be there soon."
He put down the walkie-talkie, glanced at the girl beside him who was driving intently, and asked, "Do you want me to switch? You look so nervous, I'm really afraid of causing an accident."
The little girl turned her head, pouted, and said, "Brother Xiaonan, you underestimate me!"
I chuckled and patted her head. "Just kidding. Take it seriously. Keep going and you should see the overpass soon. I'm going to rest for a bit."
The little girl said worriedly, "Oh! Brother Xiaonan, you should go to sleep, but what if I make a mistake?"
I said, "Don't worry, I'm not going to sleep. I just want to rest for a while. I'll keep an eye on things for you."
"Oh, that's good."
The rest of the journey became rather tedious.
Although I was resting, I remained vigilant, constantly watching the rearview mirror and my surroundings to prevent any strange people from appearing.
After more than ten minutes, no convoy caught up with us, and it seemed that the raider team had temporarily given up on us.
However, we cannot let our guard down. These raider teams are all desperate criminals, and who knows what they might do?
After a long while, Jingjie's voice came through the walkie-talkie again, "Xiaonan, are you almost there?"
I glanced around; the surroundings were starting to look familiar. I said, "I'm not sure, we should be there soon. Are you guys waiting?"
Sister Jing said, "Don't come over yet. We have a few cars coming this way. I suspect they are looters. We need to retreat immediately. Don't come over either. Find a place to hide first, and then you can move after they have passed."
I said, "Okay, Sister Jing, be careful."
Jingjie said, "Don't worry, they are still far away from us. Xiaonan, we might not be able to contact them later. I'll be in Jiushui Town, the outermost part of Ninghai City."
"I understand, Sister Jing. Don't worry, I'll be there."
I looked at the little girl and said, "Let's find a place to stop and hide. There seems to be some trouble over the overpass. If we go there now, we might run into problems."
"Oh, oh." The little girl turned a corner and entered an abandoned village.
The little girl parked the car in front of a building and said, "Brother Xiaonan, wait in the car for a bit, I'll go lure the zombies away first."
After saying that, the little girl ran downstairs. Like Lu Yun, she had the ability to not be afraid of zombies.
Seeing her luring the zombies away outside, I couldn't help but wonder: why are all the women who aren't afraid of zombies women? Why aren't there any men?
It seems I've never seen it before.
From Lu Yun to Wang Xintong with multiple personalities, and now to this little girl, they are all girls!
That's really strange. Is it possible that only women are immune to zombies?

Recorder Diary 43:
"Today is the 13th. This morning, a child had a fever. We gave him some medicine, and he's feeling better. I guess it's just a cold, nothing serious. The supervisor is the same as always today, staying in the office and not coming out much. It seems he doesn't want to deal with those survivors. After all, they're getting more and more annoying. Every day they come to ask us if we can contact the higher-ups, if we can get the army to rescue us. To be honest, I'm sick of hearing all this nonsense. I don't want to stay here at all!"
