(I thought I'd write it down anyway, so here's the third update.)
I looked at the two strangers who had suddenly appeared at the door. I didn't know who they were, but judging from their clothes and the knives in their hands, they were clearly not raiders, but vagrants.
The little girl also had a knife held to her neck, and she looked terrified, but her eyes didn't seem very scared.
I glanced at the two of them. They were both wearing blood-stained clothes, or rather, a layer of cloth draped over their bodies. The cloth was covered in blood, which seemed to have come from zombies. They were probably doing this to cover their scent so they could move freely among the zombies.
Although their faces were covered in ash, it was still quite obvious that they were not very old, probably in their early twenties, and were likely college students.
I looked at them and said, "Gentlemen, there's no need for this."
The man who held a knife to my neck said, "We don't want to kill anyone, we just want some food, that's all!"
I nodded and said, "No problem. You want to eat, right? I have some in my car. Let my sister get it for you. How about it? We've only just met, so we don't have any grudges. Since you don't want to kill anyone, I'm willing to be generous and give you some food."
The two exchanged a glance, their expressions wavering slightly.
It seems these two really don't want to kill anyone, otherwise they wouldn't have been persuaded by my words.
“Give me the car keys, I want your car!” another person said.
I turned to stare at him, a smirk playing on my lips, and said with a smile, "Brother, don't you think what you're saying is a bit far-fetched?"
The man said, "What, is that not allowed? Anyway, I know you picked this car up somewhere, and it's not yours. Now that you're in our hands, what's wrong with you exchanging this car for your lives?"
This guy is really naive.
I was originally planning to donate generously, but it seems I won't need to now.
At that moment, the person next to me said, "Zhang Xin! We agreed we only needed food, why did we need a car!"
The man called Zhang Xin said, "Zhong Neng! Are you stupid?! You think you can just walk when there's a car?! We've already walked for so long, I don't want to walk anymore."
Watching them argue, I put my hands behind my back, gripped the gun, and then, taking advantage of their argument, pulled it out. I chuckled and said, "Hey, hey, hey, have you two forgotten something? We're still here, do you two need to fight amongst yourselves?"
The two of them paused for a moment, then looked at me and were immediately surprised.
Because the pistol in my hand was already pointed at Zhong Neng's chest, I could shoot at any moment.
"you……"
"What do you mean 'you'? If you want to live, put down the knife in your hand right now, or let's see if your knife is faster than a bullet. Do you want to try it?" I said to Zhong Neng.
When Zhang Xin saw my pistol, a greedy look appeared in his eyes. He grabbed the little girl, held the knife to her neck, and threatened me, "Put the gun down and throw it on the ground, or I'll kill her!"
I turned to look at Zhang Xin, shook my head, then looked at the little girl and smiled slightly.
Zhang Xin couldn't understand the meaning of my smile and said angrily, "What the hell are you laughing at? Do you really think I'm joking with you?! Put it down right now..."
Before Zhang Xin could finish speaking, he was instantly stunned.
Because the little girl also had a gun in her hand, and she pressed it directly under Zhang Xin's chin. If she fired it, Zhang Xin's head would probably explode.
Therefore, Zhang Xin dares not make a move now.
I looked at Zhong Neng beside me and said, "Put the knife down. If you don't, I'll shoot."
Zhong Neng's eyes were full of fear and hesitation. Finally, under my threat, he put down the knife and took a few steps back.
As for Zhang Xin, he had already raised his hands and voluntarily thrown away the knife in his hand.
He seems to be a coward who's afraid of death.
But there's nothing we can do about it. Everyone is afraid of guns. I was just like them back then. I was terrified of firearms and didn't know how to deal with them.
I stared at the two of them, then said, "Girl, get in the car."
Without hesitation, the young girl put down her gun and got into the driver's seat.
As for me, I limped over to the car, opened the back door, took out some food, threw it on the ground, and said, "There's food in here, enough to last you two days. Remember, don't do this kind of thing again. You have nothing, so it's impossible to rob someone. If you want to survive, go find your own food."
After I finished speaking, I got into the car. The little girl was fast too; she started the car, stepped on the gas, and drove off without giving the two people a chance to speak.
I saw in the rearview mirror that the two men pounced on the backpack I had thrown to them; they looked like they were starving.
This was just a minor incident during our trip back to the research institute.
What happened to those two people afterward, whether they died or lived, I don't know, and I don't care to know.
Ten minutes later, we got onto the elevated road.
The situation on the elevated road was similar to what I saw when I came here yesterday: some zombies and wrecked vehicles.
As for the vehicles that Sister Jing mentioned earlier, they must have already passed by.
If the other party were a raider, they certainly wouldn't have stayed on the overpass for so long.
The little girl drove north on the elevated highway, and we didn't encounter any problems along the way.
More than half an hour later, we got off the highway and arrived at a town on the outskirts of Ninghai City. I didn't know the name of the town, but I knew that the Jiushui Town that Sister Jing mentioned was to the north of this town.
I tried to contact Sister Jing, but I still couldn't reach her; she was out of reach.
I received a message: "Keep driving, are you tired? Do you want me to switch?"
The little girl nodded and said, "Brother Xiaonan, my shoulder hurts a little."
"Shoulder?" I remembered that this girl's shoulder seemed to be injured. I said, "Stop for a moment, let me see how your shoulder is."
After the little girl parked the car, I removed the gauze from her shoulder. The wound was healing quite well, and as for the pain, it was probably because she was tired.
Sigh, I was really too much. I knew the little girl was also injured, but I still made her drive for so long.
I felt a little reluctant.
I said, "Since it hurts, I'll drive. I forgot you were injured too, so you should rest now."
The little girl looked at me worriedly and said, "But, Brother Xiaonan, what about your leg?"
I laughed and said, "Don't worry, it doesn't hurt much anymore. I can drive, as long as I don't use my right leg."
I've been thinking about it, how can I drive with my left leg?
