(Third update complete, to be continued tomorrow)
My face froze for a second or two before returning to normal, but my mind was in turmoil. I never expected that Qian Cheng was Zhang Zhihao's classmate!
That makes sense. They looked similar, both were college students, and there was a high chance they were classmates. Moreover, Qian Cheng had said before he died that he came out with his classmates.
I closed my eyes and pondered whether or not to tell Zhang Zhihao about Qian Cheng's death.
"Dr. Lu, Dr. Lu?" Zhang Zhihao called me twice.
"Huh? What's wrong?" I asked.
"Nothing, I just noticed you seemed to be thinking about something, Dr. Lu," Zhang Zhihao asked, puzzled.
I gave a wry smile and nodded, saying, "Yeah, sorry, I was thinking about something else."
Zhang Zhihao asked with a smile, "Are you thinking about your friends?"
I nodded: "Yeah, I wonder how they are now, but they are much better off than me, they must still be doing well."
"Hehe, definitely." Zhang Zhihao chuckled.
Forget it, I'll not tell him yet. I'll tell him at a more suitable time later.
Next, I checked his foot. It was recovering very well, and I estimated that he would be able to walk by tomorrow. After all, his injury wasn't serious to begin with, and tendon strains can heal on their own.
I have mixed feelings right now. The thought that Qian Cheng was killed by Yan Zhengfeng makes me depressed.
If it weren't for me, Qian Cheng wouldn't have died.
I went up to the fourth floor of the kindergarten and looked around; everything there was a monster.
...
Around 2:30 PM, Li Qiming returned. However, he came back alone; Zhong Jianzhou was not present.
When he returned to the kindergarten gate, he was almost exhausted, and his face was extremely pale.
His body, face, axe, and backpack were all covered in blood. If it weren't for the axe in his hand, I wouldn't have recognized him as Li Qiming at all.
As soon as Li Qiming entered the kindergarten, he swayed and collapsed to the ground, fainting.
No one in the kindergarten dared to approach him. After checking him over, I confirmed that he hadn't been bitten, but was just exhausted, and everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
“Come on, help me carry him inside,” I said to Zhou Zhengnan.
Zhong Linxuan, who was standing nearby, also came over to help, and the three of us carried Li Qiming into the classroom together.
"How is my brother-in-law?" Zhang Zhihao asked.
"It's nothing serious, he's just too tired. He'll wake up after a rest," I said, and began to check Li Qiming's body to make sure I didn't miss anything.
On the side.
Zhong Linyun held her brother's hand and asked softly, "Where's Dad?"
The older brother, Zhong Linxuan, comforted him, "Don't worry, Dad's fine. He'll be back soon."
I glanced at everyone and noticed that none of them mentioned why Zhong Jianzhou hadn't returned. Clearly, everyone knew the answer and assumed that Zhong Jianzhou was dead.
However, it's too early to draw conclusions; we'll have to wait until Li Qiming wakes up before we can discuss anything further.
Half an hour later, Li Qiming opened his eyes and woke up.
I could see the weariness and pain in his eyes.
Zhang Zhihao asked, "Brother-in-law, you're awake! How are you? Are you feeling better?"
Li Qiming shook his head and said, "I'm fine, don't worry."
He woke up, and everyone gathered around him.
I asked, "What happened? Where is Zhong Jianzhou?"
Li Qiming frowned, sat up from the ground, leaned against the wall, licked his dry lips, and panted, "I don't know."
Zhong Linxuan became anxious upon hearing this and asked, "What do you mean you don't know? Where is my dad?"
Li Qiming raised his hand, closed his eyes and pondered for a long time before saying, "Old Zhong, he was bitten."
I was taken aback. Although everyone knew the answer, it was still hard to accept that Li Qiming said it this way.
I turned around and saw that Zhong Linxuan looked very upset, and tears welled up in his eyes and fell. But he didn't leave; he wanted to listen.
I asked, "What exactly happened?"
Li Qiming said with a distressed expression, "I don't know how to say it. At first, the two of us walked a long way before finding a relatively safe supermarket. When we were about to get our things, a lot of zombies appeared in the supermarket, so we ran away. Later, we encountered a horde of zombies, and then we ran even further away."
Li Qiming swallowed hard, ignoring some unimportant things. "We didn't find anything to eat until noon. After packing our backpacks, we were about to head back when we ran into two soldiers in camouflage..."
Soldiers in camouflage?! This surprised me. Could they be the two soldiers who ambushed me at the hospital?
He continued, "I initially thought they were good people, but I never expected them to just shoot us. Then, while we were running away, Lao Zhong was accidentally bitten by a zombie."
Zhong Linxuan asked angrily, "So you just abandoned my dad and came back by yourself?!"
Li Qiming shook his head: "I didn't abandon your father. It was those two soldiers who caught up with Lao Zhong and took him away. If it weren't for Lao Zhong covering for me, I wouldn't have been able to escape at all."
Zhong Linxuan cried and shouted, "I don't believe it! It must be you! You killed my father, and now you're making up some story about two soldiers, you bastard!"
Li Qiming shook his head, his face full of pain.
Seeing that the situation was not right, Zhou Zhengnan pulled the Zhong siblings into the courtyard.
I stared at Li Qiming and asked, "Tell me, what did those two soldiers look like?"
Li Qiming frowned. "You suspect that everything I'm saying is a lie?"
I rolled my eyes. "I'm not doubting you, I just want to ask you, what were those two soldiers like?"
Li Qiming shook his head and said, "Their faces were all covered, so I couldn't see them, but one was tall and the other was short, and the tall one seemed to be the captain. I heard the short one call him that."
Tall or short? And the tall one is the captain? There's probably no such coincidence.
These two soldiers must be the two who chased me in the hospital. Liu Neng died at the hands of these two.
Li Qimin looked at my face and smiled wryly, "What, you don't believe me? I know what I'm saying is unbelievable, but..."
"Alright," I interrupted him, "I believe you."
"You believe me?" Li Qiming asked in surprise. "Why?"
I said, "Because I've run into those two bastards."
Li Qiming's eyes widened: "You know them?"
I shook my head and said, "I don't know them. These two bastards chased me when I was in the hospital. If I hadn't run fast, they would have beaten me to death."
Li Qiming nodded.
I glanced at the Zhong siblings outside and said, "You rest first, I'll go explain to them."
"Thank you." After saying that, Li Qiming closed his eyes and lay down to the side, smiling at his five-year-old son. The feeling of surviving a disaster was not good. He was able to hold on until he returned entirely because of his five-year-old son.
