Chapter 499 Interception on the Way

In response to Su Mu's question, I said, "It's nothing serious, just a small matter."

Su Mu didn't pay much attention at first, but after regaining his senses, he felt something was wrong and hurriedly asked, "Wait a minute! Something's not right! It can't be a small matter! If it were just a small matter, you wouldn't have come back to Jiajiang in person!"

I was a little exasperated, and said again, "It's really nothing, I'm not lying to you."

Su Mu shook his head: "I don't believe you. You don't need to lie to me. You wouldn't be so idle as to come all the way from Mingzhu to deal with such a trivial matter. Tell me, is there something important you need to do?"

I shook my head and said, "No, really."

Su Mu looked at Zhong Jianzhou, who was taken aback and shook his head along with me.

Su Mu raised an eyebrow, a slight smile playing on his lips as he looked at the two of us and said with a smile, "You're not going to tell, huh? That means you two are definitely going to do something big."

I shook my head again and said, "No. You're overthinking it. It's really nothing serious."

It's best not to let Su Mu know about the research institute's affairs. After all, even if he knew, it wouldn't change anything. So, rather than bothering him, it's better to let him focus on managing Jiajiang City. Once he has completely cleaned up the entire city, then the value of Jiajiang City will be realized.

Su Mu looked at the two of us, seemingly deep in thought, but he didn't say anything. He simply waved his hand and told us to get lost.

I had no objection to this and left Zhang Jianzhou's office with him.

It's getting late, time to set off.

So after leaving his office, we got in the car and drove away from Jiangbei to the place where we picked up the medicine.

However, not long after we set off, as we were about to leave the Jiajiang area, I noticed a car blatantly following us.

They really didn't hold back at all, coming right behind us with their engines roaring, and then following closely behind, showing absolutely no intention of hiding.

The guy who followed was none other than Su Mu.

I promptly stopped the car, got out of the passenger seat, and went to Su Mu's car, knocking on his window.

The guy rolled down his car window, wearing sunglasses, and asked, "What's up?"

I said, "Is there any point in you following along like this?"

Su Mu frowned and said, "Following you? What do you mean? Did I follow you? I just wanted to go out for a stroll and take a look around outside Jiajiang City. It just so happened that I was going the same way as you. I didn't follow you."

Could this guy be any more shameless?

I sighed and asked, "Do you really want to know what we're going to do?"

Su Mu smiled and said, "I don't want to."

My face fell, and I said, "If you don't want to, then get the hell out of here!"

"Holy crap, Lu Xiaonan, you've gotten too arrogant!" Su Mu took off his sunglasses and glared angrily.

"Get lost," I replied with a single word.

Back in the car, Zhong Jianzhou said somewhat helplessly, "Maybe I should just tell him."

I said, "No need, let him come along. Anyway, he won't know what's going on there. Just don't say anything no matter what he asks, and there won't be any problems. Once we give in, this guy will definitely keep asking questions, and if he gets into trouble, it won't do you any good, right?"

Zhong Jianzhou nodded, "Yes, we can't say."

And so, we continued our journey.

That shameless bastard Su Mu is still following us.

Zhong Jianzhou said it would take about two hours to get there, since he had never had any problems when he went to pick up medicine before.

However, we had only been gone for about half an hour when Su Mu's voice suddenly came from the car.

"Hey, tell me, where are you two going?"

Zhong Jianzhou and I were both stunned. We didn't expect to hear Su Mu's voice coming from inside the car. We knew without a doubt that there must be a walkie-talkie in the car.

I rummaged through the front drawer and found the walkie-talkie. Immediately, Su Mu's voice came through the walkie-talkie again.

"Tell me quickly, what are you two going to do?"

Zhong Jianzhou and I exchanged a glance, both looking helpless.

I pressed the button and said, "Shut up if you want to know."

After I finished speaking, Su Mu indeed fell silent. I raised an eyebrow, put down the walkie-talkie, and also stopped talking.

Su Mu waited for a long time, and seeing that I didn't speak, he knew he had been tricked. He then angrily shouted, "Zhong Jianzhou! Lu Xiaonan! You two bastards! Tell me right now, what are you two going to do, or I'll crash my car!"

I turned on the walkie-talkie and said again, "Okay, okay, I'll tell you right away, don't get excited."

"Then tell me!" Su Mu asked anxiously.

I said, "Don't worry, we'll be at our destination in a little over an hour. You'll know what we're going to do then, so just wait patiently."

After I gave him that sentence, Su Mu stopped making a fuss. To keep things quiet, I promptly turned off the walkie-talkie, lest he suddenly say something that would startle us.

...

The two-hour drive passed quickly.

Zhong Jianzhou led me to an incredibly remote place. There were no buildings around, only a single signal tower standing alone amidst the weeds.

He parked the car next to the signal tower, and then we got out.

Su Mu ran up from behind, still wearing sunglasses, and looked around in confusion, asking, "There's nothing here, what are you doing here?"

I glanced at Zhong Jianzhou, and Zhong Jianzhou glanced at the signal tower.

I looked at the signal tower and noticed an iron gate directly below it.

"Is this the place?" I asked.

Zhong Jianzhou nodded and said, "Yes, it's in here."

Su Mu, completely bewildered, asked, "What are you talking about? What do you mean, 'in here'?"

Zhong Jianzhou and I arrived at the base of the signal tower. Zhong Jianzhou forcefully pulled open the iron gate, and immediately I saw a straight passage leading underground. It was pitch black inside, and I couldn't see anything.

Zhong Jianzhou said, "I'll go down first."

"Um."

Just as Zhong Jianzhou was about to lie down, Su Mu stopped him, "Hey, hey, hey, what are you two up to? What are you two doing here? Are you going into this sewer to scoop out latrines again?"

I rolled my eyes and said irritably, "You're the one who's shoveling manure. If you want to know, just watch from the side and stop dawdling."

Su Mu wanted to curse, but he didn't know how to curse us.

Then, a short while later, Zhong Jianzhou went downstairs.
