Chapter 590 Rescue

Chapter 591 Rescue

Hu Fei got out of the car and walked towards the convenience store ahead. He had a pistol tucked into his waistband and a machete in his hand.

It was still uncertain whether there was only one person in the convenience store, so Hu Fei remained cautious and did not run directly to the store entrance. Instead, he found various forms of cover and slowly advanced.

I got out of the car, observed the surroundings, and after confirming that there was no one else around, I kept an eye on Hu Fei's situation. If any problems arose, I would shoot him to solve them.

However, judging from Hu Fei's cautious demeanor, nothing serious is likely to happen.

He quickly arrived at a car across from the convenience store. He stood next to the car, craning his neck to look into the store. I don't know what he saw, but he stood up from behind the car, seemingly unafraid of what was happening inside the convenience store.

Then he glanced in my direction and waved at me.

I'm a little confused. What's going on with him? Did he witness something unpredictable? Or is he facing an insurmountable threat, which is why he's asking me to come over?

That shouldn't be the case. If he were threatened, he wouldn't be so calm; he would probably have shot the other party directly. But his current situation seems more like a helpless situation.

What is he feeling helpless about?

I drew my gun, walked over cautiously, and came to Hu Fei's side. I looked into the convenience store and saw the situation inside. I immediately understood why Hu Fei had stood up and wasn't afraid of what was happening inside the convenience store.

There were only two people in the convenience store, a man and a woman, and they didn't look very old.

The woman lay unconscious on the ground, her left arm severed, blood flowing continuously from the stump. I glanced at her severed left arm; there were bite marks from a zombie, indicating she had just been bitten and then cut off.

The boy tending to his wound was in tears, completely flustered. He had no idea how to treat a wound and was utterly at a loss as he watched the bleeding.

The girl on the ground had lost too much blood, and her face was turning pale.

Hu Fei said, "Should we go over and help?"

I said, "You want to go and help?"

Hu Fei said, "I just don't want to see a girl die in front of me, what do you think?"

I said, "If you want to help, then help. But we still have to be careful. What if they repay kindness with enmity? Wouldn't we be in a dilemma?"

Hu Fei said, "Don't worry, that kid won't have a chance to do that then."

"Then I'll go get the first-aid kit."

Before coming, I prepared a first-aid kit in the car, which naturally included gauze and alcohol. I took the first-aid kit from the car and returned to Hu Fei's side. Then we arrived at the entrance of the convenience store.

Hu Fei pushed open the door and entered. The boy inside was terrified when he saw the two of us. He picked up a bloodstained knife from the ground and shouted angrily at us, "Who are you?! Don't come any closer, or I'll make you regret it!"

Hu Fei smiled and said, "Young man, we're not bad people. You see, we're not carrying any knives, right? We're just here to help. We saw that your friend seemed to be in serious condition, so we wanted to come in and help. My friend is a doctor, and he knows how to treat this kind of wound."

The boy stared at me, tears still streaming down his face. He didn't have time to wipe them away and asked, "Really? Really? You're really a doctor?"

I said, “I am indeed a doctor, and I might be able to treat your friend’s wound. If you leave her wound exposed like this, she could easily die from blood loss.”

"But, but who are you people, and why are you helping me?" the boy asked, confused.

Think about it, if two people suddenly ran in from outside and said they wanted to help you, would you believe them? Nobody would, okay?

I said, “You don’t have to trust us. In that case, you’ll have to treat your friend’s wound yourself. But you don’t have any experience in this area. Your friend could die in ten minutes. So you can think about what to do. We just want to help. We have no other intentions.”

The boy hesitated, unsure of what to choose. He glanced at the girl beside him, then at the two of us, looking extremely indecisive.

Hu Fei then took the medicine box from my hand, opened it, and said, "Young man, see? These are all medicines, what else? If he's not a doctor, why would he need to prepare all this? If you want your friend to get better, let my friend treat her, okay?"

In the end, the boy couldn't hold back any longer and nodded, "Please!"

"Okay, I'll do my best. I don't know if I can succeed, but don't worry, I'll try my best to keep her alive." After I finished speaking, I knelt down next to the girl and helped stop her bleeding.

Then I took out a clean scalpel and said to Hu Fei, "Start a fire, quickly."

Although Hu Fei didn't understand why they needed to start a fire, he still found some things and lit a bunch of torches nearby.

I started by sterilizing and heating the scalpel, and then I began to burn the blood vessels at the girl's severed arm with the scalpel.

If we let her bleed any longer, she will die soon. This is the only way to stop the bleeding.

I don't know how much time passed, but the bleeding finally stopped. I checked the girl's pulse; although weak, it was still there, meaning she was still alive. The wound had stopped bleeding, so after disinfecting it, I began extensive cauterization, followed by applying medicine and bandaging.

I looked at the boy and said, "Go find a blanket to cover her up. She's too cold right now, we need to keep her body temperature warm."

"Okay, I'll go right now." The boy ran out without stopping and soon returned with a thick quilt, which he covered the girl with.

"Is she...is she alright?" the boy asked anxiously.

I said, "She's alright for now, but whether she can wake up depends on her own will. If her will to live is strong, she'll probably wake up soon. Of course, given her current condition, it's also possible she'll wake up in a couple of days. Anyway, don't worry too much, her life is definitely saved."

Upon hearing my words, the boy immediately breathed a sigh of relief, collapsed to the ground, and burst into tears.

I didn't know how to comfort him, so I gave up. Let the child cry; it's better to let it out. Holding it in is just more painful.
