When I woke up, it was already noon the next day. Sunlight streamed in through the window, and it was very warm.
In a daze, I felt that I was holding someone in my arms, someone very warm.
Wait, what's going on?
I suddenly opened my eyes and was terrified to see Wu Shuang, whom I was holding in front of me.
"You're awake?" Wu Shuang asked, her back to me, seemingly noticing my unusual behavior.
"Hmm." I blinked, not knowing what to say, feeling incredibly awkward.
"Get up now that you're awake. Are you planning to keep holding me?" Wu Shuang said, her voice sounding a little unhappy.
"Oh, okay." I quickly let go of her and got off the bed. I looked down and realized that I hadn't changed my clothes; I was still wearing the same clothes from yesterday, and they were filthy.
Wu Shuang turned around with a smile on her face, showing no sign of anger.
"I was just kidding you, why did you actually go down there?"
"Huh?" I was a little confused.
Seeing my blank expression, Wu Shuang smiled and said, "Never mind, you should go wash up and change your clothes; you're so dirty."
I gave a wry smile; I really did need to change my clothes. But where could I find new clothes?
"Look, there are clothes on the table. Pu Weichao brought them to you this morning. I don't know if they'll fit you," Wu Shuang said, pointing to the clothes on the table.
I picked up the clothes and looked at them, thinking they should fit, and then said, "I'll go wash up and change first."
"Washing" doesn't mean taking a bath; it just means washing your face and wiping your body with water.
"Go."
Leave Wu Shuang's house.
After washing up and changing clothes, I ran into Pu Weichao as I was leaving the house.
When Pu Weichao saw me, he said, "Oh, so you're here. I was just looking for you."
I asked, puzzled, "What's wrong?"
Pu Weichao said, "Fei Lichao is awake."
"She's awake!" I exclaimed in surprise.
"Okay, let's go. He said he has something to discuss with us, so let's hurry over."
"good."
We went to Fei Lichao's room. As soon as I entered, I saw Fei Lichao leaning against the headboard. His complexion had recovered, and apart from looking a little tired, he seemed to be fine.
Fei Lichao said weakly, "You're here. I have something to discuss with you guys."
I walked to the bedside, ignoring what he was about to say, and decisively said, "Let me see your wound first."
Fei Lichao initially wanted to refuse, but he couldn't resist my gaze and finally nodded.
I removed the gauze dressing from his wound, which was healing well. I then said to Pu Weichao, "Go get my backpack. I'll change his dressing first."
Fei Lichao hurriedly said, "Don't rush, let me tell you what I have to say first, then you can leave."
Pu Weichao shrugged, and I, too, sighed and said, "Fine."
Fei Lichao looked at me and said with a smile, "I didn't expect you to actually survive. I really underestimated you."
I rolled my eyes.
Pu Weichao added, "Hey, you have no idea, this kid was even more formidable yesterday."
"What happened yesterday?" Fei Lichao asked curiously.
I sighed at the two of them and said, "Okay, you two talk first, I'll go get my backpack."
"Hey, let's stop talking, let's get down to business," Fei Lichao said with a furrowed brow.
Pu Weichao and I both stared at him, waiting for him to talk about what he called "serious business."
Fei Lichao said, "I won't say much about the air-raid shelter. What I want to talk about now is a message I heard before I left the air-raid shelter, a message that came from above."
"Passed down from above?" Pu Weichao asked in surprise. "How was it passed down?"
"What else can we use to communicate besides walkie-talkies!" Fei Lichao explained irritably. "The higher-ups said there's a safe zone in the Jiajiang Military Region. It's supposedly very safe, with ample weaponry and supplies. All the important strategic materials are being moved there. I'm thinking, should we go?"
Pu Weichao hurriedly said, "Let's go! We definitely have to go! At least that's a safe zone. Once we're inside, we won't have to be so scared!"
I frowned and said, "But you know how far Jiajiangli is from Hangzhou. It's about 100 kilometers away. It's not like before, when you could just take a high-speed train. If we want to go there now, it will probably be very troublesome."
Pu Weichao calmed down and nodded, saying, "You're right. It's not just the distance of over 100 kilometers; just leaving Hangzhou is a huge problem. There are so many monsters in the city; it's impossible to leave Hangzhou in a straight line. But since there's a safe zone over there, we can't just leave it there, can we?"
I fell silent for a moment. I wanted to go too. Life outside was too terrifying. I had to face those monsters almost every day. If I entered the safe zone, I would be protected by the army, and at least I wouldn't have to worry about safety.
Pu Weichao and I both looked at Fei Lichao, hoping he could make a decision.
Fei Lichao's expression was grave. He said, "I definitely have to go! But, damn it..."
At this point, he thought for a moment and asked, "How many of us do we have now?"
Pu Weichao thought for a moment and said, "Thirteen people, four women, eight men, and one child."
Fei Lichao nodded: "What about the guns and bullets?"
Pu Weichao said, "There are five pistols and two submachine guns. The bullets are almost gone. There are only a few left in the guns. Once they are used up, they will be gone."
