Volume 1 Hidden Conspiracy, Chapter 001

"Look at this! This is the good daughter you've spoiled!"

"Instead of studying properly, you insist on learning that talisman-drawing thing. It's infuriating!"

"How could I have given birth to such a daughter!"

"In my opinion, she must have been led astray by her bad friends!"

"You never study anything good, all you think about is these feudal superstitions!"

"Forget it, just pretend I never gave birth to her. Let her do whatever she wants. If she gets scammed in the end, just don't come back to her as her mother!"

My name is Chen Xi, I am twenty years old, and I am a student.

As you can see, I am being verbally abused by my own mother.

She would never understand that my determination was to save them, and at the same time, to save myself!

I don't ask for anything else, I only ask for peace of mind.

From childhood to adulthood, I have always been the child praised by other parents.

The certificates and awards I've received at school over the years are so numerous that they can't all be displayed in an entire room.

The trophies were also moved to the warehouse for storage.

My family lives in a small county town near Shanghai. I worked very hard and got into Shanghai University with a score of nearly 700.

My life could have gone smoothly until that nightmare came, forcing me to drop out of school and meet the uncle I had met a few days earlier!

"Alright, alright, stop talking."

"Look, my daughter is crying like this."

The person speaking was my father; he was the only person my family could rely on.

“Xiao Xi has grown up, and sometimes we should respect her choices.”

Upon hearing this, the mother flew into a rage, pointed at the father's nose, and began to hurl insults:

"Chen Fanghai, even at a time like this, you're still indulging her!"

"Fine, I regret my poor judgment in choosing you! I don't care anymore, do whatever you want!"

After saying that, she slammed the door and left the room.

My father sighed, and I could tell that he had been living a very repressed life all these years.

My mother has a strong personality, and my father has always been tolerant of her.

How wonderful it would be if I could meet a man like my father.

My father slowly walked to the chair next to my bed and sat down, looking at me with doting eyes.

I avoided his gaze because I was afraid to face him, afraid that I wouldn't be able to control my tears.

Finally, he spoke:

"Xiaoxi, have you really thought this through? You should know how much this will affect you, after all, you're not a child anymore."

"It wasn't easy for you to get into a university in Shanghai. Dad knows you've put in a lot of effort."

"If you've really made up your mind, then Dad supports you."

"I'll try to talk to your mother, and I'm sure she'll understand."

At this moment, my mind is in turmoil. Perhaps no matter what absurd decision I make, my father will understand.

The guilt in my heart was overwhelming at that moment.

But this only strengthened my resolve to make this choice.

I looked up at my father's face, weathered by time, and smiled.

"Dad, I've made up my mind. Even if you try to stop me, I will stick to it."

I couldn't see my own expression, but I was sure it was stubborn.

My father smiled when he received my answer and reached out to pat my head.

Those warm, large hands were enough to support my life:

"If it's your decision, Dad supports you. Go after your dreams. Dad will always be your support."

My father gently patted my head, as if in that moment he was giving me all his love.

"Okay, stop crying, cheer up, I'll go talk to your mom."

"Don't be angry with your mother. She's only trying to help you. She just said some harsh words. Don't take it to heart."

Dad withdrew his loving hands and slowly walked out of the room.

I hid under the covers, trying my best to control my emotions and hold back my tears.

Ding-a-ling~~~

My phone beeped with WeChat.

I reached out my arm and groped for my phone on the bedside table.

The lock screen notification shows an unread message.

After unlocking, a message box pops up.

Note: Dear Dad

Content: Transfer, please check.

Amount: 20,000

Note: Don't be sad, Dad will always support you.

Dialogue: "Leaving school requires money. Dad can't help much, so use this money for now. If it's not enough, tell Dad."

Upon seeing the message, my nose twitched uncontrollably.

I simply replied with a few words: I love you, Dad.

Putting down my phone, the emotions I had just felt overwhelmed surged up again.

The tears that had been suppressed before burst forth like a dam breaking, soaking the pillow.

Even his body was trembling uncontrollably, and time seemed to stand still...

I slowly opened my eyes, and the blinding sunlight shone through the curtains onto my face.

"Is it already dawn...?"

I was talking to myself.

"Xiao Xi~~"

Hmm? Is someone calling me? I wondered to myself.

I turned my head to look at the doorway:

"Xixi! What brings you here?"

The girl standing at the door was my best friend, Jiangxi Xi.

I heard that her name comes from the fact that her mother was having a picnic by the river when she gave birth to her.

When she was taken to the hospital, her mother saw a stream to the west, so she named her Jiangxi Stream.

I once asked my father about the meaning of my name.

Dad said he just picked the name randomly because he thought it sounded nice.

I argued with him for quite a while back then.

Later I learned that "曦" means the sun.

Chen Xi means as dazzling as the sunshine of yesteryear.

"I came to see you. Your dad said you and your aunt had a fight yesterday?"

I gave a wry smile: "Yeah..."

Jiangxi Xi sat down on the edge of my bed and took my arm:

"Are you really going to learn Taoist magic from that old man? He looks like a conman!"

I nodded: "That person wasn't a fraud, because he predicted the content of my dream."

"It's even frighteningly accurate; he's amazing!"

Jiangxi Xi looked at me with a worried expression: "Xiao Xi, you should think it over carefully. I'm really afraid that you will be taken advantage of. There are too many evil uncles in society who cheat college students these days."

I'm still very worried about you!

I lowered my head in deep thought, weighing the pros and cons: "I've thought it over, but I've still decided to trust him."

"Because at this moment, I have no other choice but to leave myself with no other options."

“I have to believe him; only then can I find the answer to all of this.”

"I'll get up and get ready."

“A few days ago, he gave me an address, and I plan to go and see it in person.”

"Do you want to come with me?"

Jiangxi Xi nodded, then looked puzzled: "I'll go with you, but what exactly did you dream about? What could have made you so afraid that you were even willing to suspend your studies to find out the answer?"
