After a long time, Wu Shi and Wu Shi let go of each other, and both of them looked a little unnatural.
Wu Shi coughed twice, then fastened his seatbelt: "Um... let's go, or we'll miss dinner."
I rolled my eyes at this man. Finding an excuse to ease the awkwardness was pretty bizarre, and what was even more absurd was that I actually replied with a "Hmm..." as if possessed.
Oh, my life!
As the car drove along the highway, I felt a long-lost sense of leisure. I've been so tired lately, spending every day in a thrilling and exciting way.
I'm wondering if I could adapt to school life again.
Wu Shi drove the car into our yard. He had already told my parents before he came back.
Before Wu Shi and I could even get out of the car, my mother came out of the house and greeted us with a big smile.
I opened the car door and got out, and my mom started talking:
"Oh, we've been waiting for you for ages! Come on in and rest for a bit. Dinner will be served soon. Stay for two days this time before you leave."
"Mom knows you're busy, but it won't make a difference if you have a couple more days, will it?"
I nodded and said, "Wu Shi and I can stay at home for two days this time. Wu Shi also bought some things, including a lot of my dad's favorite wine."
Wu Shi got out of the car carrying his things, still maintaining his usual calm and composed demeanor.
"Mom, I bought some health supplements. I've looked at the formulas, and they're all good for your health."
"I heard from Xiaoxi that Dad likes to drink, so I bought some authentic baijiu. This time when I come back, I can have a couple of drinks with Dad."
My mom laughed and said, "Alright, alright, child, I won't stand on ceremony with you. We're all family. You've worked hard outside, so take a good rest when you get home. Xiao Xi, quickly bring Xiao Wu inside. The food will be on the table soon."
Upon entering the house, the layout was exactly the same as before, with no changes whatsoever.
I went inside, looked around, and then turned to ask, "Mom, where's Dad?"
My mom chuckled and pointed to the kitchen: "Oh, your dad! He said you like sauerkraut dumplings, so he just made them and is cooking them for you in the kitchen now."
I went into the kitchen and sure enough, I saw my dad wearing an apron, standing by the pot cooking dumplings.
"Dad, did you miss me?!" I rushed over and hugged my dad.
When my dad saw me, his face was full of smiles. He laughed and said to me, "Oh my, you're already so clingy as soon as you get back."
"A married woman should be more mature and stable."
I pouted and said, "No way! Even if I get married, I'll still be your daughter!"
My dad shook his head helplessly: "You little rascal, I just can't do anything with you."
"Your mom has already cooked all the vegetables, and the dumplings will be ready in a little while."
Please sit on the sofa for a while; you'll be able to eat in two minutes.
I nodded, ran back to the living room, sat on the sofa, and whispered to Wu Shi:
"Honey, what do you think the world will become if our operation to wipe them out fails?"
When Wu Shi heard me call him "husband," he seemed a little uncomfortable at first, but he quickly got used to the term. Then, upon hearing what I said, his expression became somewhat serious.
"Although I want to offer words of comfort, if we fail, the world will descend into chaos, and the entire mortal realm will fall into a state of yin-yang imbalance."
"Human lifespan will be greatly reduced, and almost everyone will become extremely weak. This phenomenon will be prevalent throughout the entire mortal world without exception."
"Even if the rulers of the underworld intervene, they may not be able to stop it in a short time. Moreover, it is difficult to recall all the evil spirits that have escaped from the underworld, and the number of evil spirits left in the mortal world will increase."
"As the concentration of Yin energy increases, many ordinary evil spirits will become powerful. At that time, the Taoists alone will be overwhelmed in dealing with them."
"Therefore, this operation must succeed no matter what the cost. Behind us lies responsibility, the lives of tens of millions of people."
"While it may sound a bit boastful, we are indeed doing something incredibly great."
"However, no matter what danger we face, I will always be there to protect you."
"I can't guarantee you won't get hurt, but I can guarantee that they'll step over my dead body before they can harm you!"
Seeing that the topic was getting a bit heavy, I decided not to continue the conversation.
"Never mind, life and death are predestined. Perhaps our operation will go smoothly."
"I don't want anything to happen to you. If possible, I still hope that we can both live well."
Wu Shi grasped my hand without saying a word, but I already understood what he meant.
"Xiao Xi, Xiao Wu, the dumplings are ready. Let's eat!"
My dad's voice came from the dining table.
I pulled Wu Shi to the dining table and sat down. I must say, it really felt like a warm and harmonious family gathering.
However, when I think of the Heaven and Earth Church, I realize how precious this leisure is.
I picked up a dumpling, brought it to my mouth, and took a bite. It was filled with sauerkraut and tasted delicious.
This is my favorite filling. I eat the dumpling in one bite and chew it continuously.
Before I could react, a tear slid down my cheek, followed by a stream of tears from the corner of my eye.
Seeing my expression, my dad quickly asked, "Xiaoxi, what's wrong? Why are you crying?"
"If you have any grievances, you can talk to Dad. Wu Shi, what's wrong with her?"
Seeing that I didn't reply, my dad looked at Wu Shi.
