Wu Shi sighed, put down his chopsticks, took a tissue from the table, wiped away my tears, and whispered to me:
"If you want to cry, then cry. Don't put too much pressure on yourself. These are things we can't control. We can only do our best."
Wu Shi's words confused my father even more:
"What exactly is going on?"
"What's wrong with Xiaoxi?!"
Clearly, my dad was getting anxious.
My mom came over to my side and patted my back:
"Xiao Xi, what happened? Why don't you tell us?"
"Mom knows I was too harsh on you before, but don't worry, Mom won't interfere in your life now. If you have any difficulties, you can talk to me and your dad. There's no need to keep everything to yourself."
I wanted to speak, but I choked up and couldn't say anything.
As Wu Shi wiped away my tears and gently brushed the stray hairs from my forehead, he asked tenderly:
"Xiaoxi, should we tell Mom and Dad?"
I nodded, sobbing. I didn't want my parents to face the situation without knowing anything. I was afraid something uncontrollable would happen that they wouldn't be able to handle.
I was actually struggling with whether or not to tell, but I overestimated my ability to handle it. I couldn't hide such a big thing from people.
Wu Shi sighed: "Alright, Dad, Mom, I have something to tell you. You need to be prepared. This matter cannot be known to anyone else."
The atmosphere became incredibly silent at that moment.
Neither of Wu Shi's parents knew what he was going to say. Wu Shi slowly began to speak:
"Not long ago, our Taoist organization was infiltrated by cultists and suffered a bloodbath, with dozens of people dying and our strength severely damaged."
"In order to disrupt the balance between the Yin and Yang realms, cultists may very well destroy the gates of hell during the Ghost Festival and settle scores with us Taoists."
"Our opponents are incredibly strong, beyond imagination. In fact, our lives are not even guaranteed."
“If we fail, no one in this world will be spared. Xiaoxi has been keeping this to herself because she was afraid you would worry.”
"She was afraid you would worry that something might happen to her, and she was also worried that if she failed, your safety would not be guaranteed."
“She is under tremendous pressure, and she has been living in fear all this time. This is our responsibility, and Xiaoxi will not give up. She had no choice in the first place.”
"Dad, Mom, she needs your support. Your attitude determines how high she can stand and how far she can go."
"Xiao Xi is not only hardworking, but also exceptionally talented. This is something I only recently discovered. Her cultivation speed and comprehension are several times, or even dozens of times, faster than others."
“We’ve both risked everything to do what we believe is right. It may be hard for you two to accept, but it’s Xiaoxi’s own choice. I still feel the same way. You two can tell her your stance.”
My parents didn't say anything; they just listened to Wu Shi's words, seemingly lost in thought.
