Hou Qiang and Lu Yuan both wanted to see if Niu Wen's lie detector would actually work, so Lu Yuan would basically fulfill any request Niu Wen made. After all, the interrogation couldn't be dragged on indefinitely; once the thirty-six hours were up, they would have to release the person, or even less than thirty-six hours later, they might be bailed out. So Lu Yuan could only place his hopes on Niu Wen's lie detector.
Hou Qiang helped Niu Wen move the computer monitor over, then gently wiped off the dust and asked curiously, "Is this reliable? It looks like a bunch of broken stuff, it's not like what I see on TV!"
While adjusting various sensors, Niu Wen explained, "Although my lie detector doesn't look very impressive, the principle behind it is the same as what you've seen before! It uses various sensors connected to a person's body to detect heartbeat, pulse, and analyze subtle movements to determine if what the person is saying is true. The biggest advantage of this lie detector is that regardless of whether the person speaks or not, they will react after the lie is detected. These reactions are transmitted to a computer via the sensors for analysis to determine if the person is lying!"
Hou Qiang's expression immediately turned to one of utter admiration as he looked at Niu Wen: "Wow! I didn't realize you were such a technician! What's your educational background?"
Niu Wen adjusted his glasses and said, "A junior college! A diploma from a diploma mill! It has absolutely nothing to do with my later work! I learned all of this on my own. My medical license and my psychological counselor certificate were also obtained through self-study. They're just hobbies!"
Lu Yuan immediately became very interested and walked to the side, looking at the various sensor devices already connected to the computer, and asked, "Have you tested this thing? It would be troublesome if you made a mistake!"
Niu Wen didn't even look up as he continued fiddling with the equipment in his hands, saying, "It should work. I've tested it with my patients before, and 99% of what they said passed the test! And the test results completely matched the facts!"
"Oh? You passed the test? That's impressive! But how did you convince your patient to get tested for this?"
"Hey, I definitely can't tell them about this. I told them it was just a heart rate monitor! But it's actually a lie detector!"
After fiddling with it for a while, Niu Wen finally looked up and pressed the power button. About half a minute later, the screen finally lit up, and some sensors connected to the lie detector began to flash.
Who wants to give it a try?
Hou Qiang's interest was piqued when he saw the item on the table. He immediately sat down and put his arms on the table, saying, "Hehe! Let me do it! You can test how accurate your instrument really is!"
Niu Wen nodded and then attached various sensor devices to Hou Qiang's body. Lu Yuan counted them briefly and found that there were about a dozen sensors. Hou Qiang's entire body was now covered with various sensors.
With a "click," Niu Wen pressed the switch, and immediately the red liquid in the hydraulic pump was drawn out. Hou Qiang trembled and was about to pull it out when Niu Wen quickly pressed him down with his hand and said, "Don't move, it won't hurt you. It's just to get the sensor closer to your skin! Don't be nervous!"
Hou Qiang stared at the sensor on his arm, still somewhat shaken, and asked, "Really? This thing really doesn't cause any harm? It gave me quite a fright! I thought you were going to give me a shot!"
Niu Wen smiled and sat down next to the computer: "How could that be! It's just a regular sensor, the same as a blood pressure monitor, only this one is more accurate!"
Hou Qiang finally relaxed: "Okay! What's next?"
"I'll ask you a few questions first. You just need to shake your head or nod!"
"Fine! Go ahead and ask!"
Niu Wen nodded, then asked, "Are you Hou Qiang?"
"Yes!"
You don't actually need to answer that!
Are you a member of Team Seven?
Hou Qiang nodded.
Do you want to be the captain?
Upon hearing this, Hou Qiang's face immediately turned angry, and he was about to slam his fist on the table.
"You're fucking trying to sow discord! Couldn't you have asked a different question?!"
Lu Yuan stepped forward and grabbed the other man, saying, "Hou Qiang! It's alright, he's asking his questions. If you don't want to answer, then don't say anything! It's okay!"
Niu Wen quickly added, "That's right! You don't have to answer! It won't matter! I'm just doing a test! Don't worry about it, I don't mean any harm!"
Hou Qiang then sheepishly withdrew his hand, but a hint of anger flashed in his eyes, clearly displeased with Niu Wen's actions.
The testing continued, and finally, Niu Wen nodded and said, "Alright! All the testing is done! You can take a look at the basic information!"
Lu Yuan quickly leaned over to look at the various vital signs of Hou Qiang on the screen, as well as the results that Niu Wen had written down in his notebook.
Hou Qiang quickly removed all the testing equipment from his body and turned to look over.
"Holy crap! What kind of answer is this?! Why did you check the box for 'Do I want to be the team leader?'?!"
Lu Yuan quickly stopped him and said, "Hou Qiang, don't rush. A soldier who doesn't want to be a general isn't a good soldier, and the same goes for team members. There's nothing wrong with you wanting to be the captain. As long as you perform well, maybe I'll give you the captain's position before long!"
