Chapter 209 Mechanic Liu Cheng

"The issue of the grain is easy to explain, but I'm more interested in how this Sun Laosan managed to seize this military base. Are you aware of this?"

Both of them shook their heads, indicating that they knew nothing about the matter.

"I've heard from others before that Sun Laosan had a brother who was an officer in the logistics department of the army. After the apocalypse, because these weapons were too heavy to be taken back, he found someone to keep them safe. It's possible that his brother colluded with him and sold all the weapons to him. I don't know why these tanks, planes and the like ended up in their hands."

The driver glanced at the time and immediately stopped the conversation: "Alright, it's getting late. We need to go back. If we stay any longer, the people inside will be unhappy, and we might have to spend the night outside!"

Upon hearing that he was going back, Lu Yuan felt a surge of excitement and completely forgot about Sun Laosan's matter.

After getting into the car, the three drove towards the campsite.

When the people in the camp saw the car return, someone immediately came over, reached out and stopped the car, and began a series of checks.

One of the guards, with a full beard, shone a flashlight into the carriage. The middle-aged man rolled down the window and explained with a fawning smile, "Sir, this is a new guy I just found on the road. Our convoy is short of a porter, so I brought him along. We'll take him inside to get an access pass in a bit!"

Upon hearing the man's words, the bearded guard immediately moved his flashlight and shone it directly into Lu Yuan's face. The blinding light shone into Lu Yuan's eyes, and he had to shield them with his hand.

"Where did you come from? What's your name?"

When they arrived, the driver and the middle-aged man had already told Lu Yuan that these guards were extremely difficult to deal with, and that he had to be polite when speaking to them, otherwise he might not even have a chance to get in.

So Lu Yuan put on an innocent smile, took out his ID card from his pocket, handed it over, and said, "Lu Yuan, I came from Qingshui City!"

When the bearded man heard the name Lu Yuan, he was somewhat surprised. He then looked Lu Yuan up and down, while the middle-aged man beside him continued with a smile, saying, "Haha, there are too many people with the same name. He shares the same name as Lu Yuan, the manager of that base over there. It's a case of the same name!"

After checking Lu Yuan's documents and confirming that they were correct, the middle-aged man with a thick beard nodded and returned the documents to Lu Yuan.

"Kid, behave yourself once you're inside, and don't cause any trouble, understand? I'm only letting you in this time because you're not doing it for Brother Qing's sake. Alright, go in now, Brother Qing. Next time you bring something good, don't forget me!"

The middle-aged man quickly put on a smile and said, "Don't worry, brother, how could I forget about you? Alright, then we've bothered you. You should get some rest too. We'll head back now!"

Then, the driver nodded to the bearded man and stepped on the gas, driving into the camp.

This was Lu Yuan's first time entering this camp. Upon entering, he found various military tents scattered all over the open ground, each with a number attached to it.

"Why are there numbers?" Lu Yuan asked curiously as he looked at the numbers pasted on the tents from the back row.

"Oh, this is all for the convenience of management. From number one to number one hundred, a representative is selected. If anyone in the group commits a crime, the entire team will be implicated. It's a system similar to the collective punishment in ancient times!" The driver said resentfully while driving, clearly expressing his dissatisfaction with the system.

Lu Yuan nodded thoughtfully and continued to look out. He saw that very few people were out in the camp; they were mostly hiding in their tents. The few people he did see looked pale and thin.

The car continued driving forward, passing a group of guards, and stopped for another inspection, which was basically the same as what had happened before.

"Is it like this every day here? Such frequent checks are such a waste of time!"

The middle-aged man called Brother Qing sighed and said, "Anyway, everyone's got nothing else to do, so let's just do a quick check to prevent any traitors from selling the information inside to outsiders. After all, there's a lot of good stuff in here!"

"You mean those airplanes, tanks, and weapons?"

"Yes, this matter must not be revealed. If the military finds out that all these things have been seized by Sun Laosan, they will definitely come after us later."

However, I think the military probably already knows about this, but they just don't want to take action against Sun Laosan. After all, these things are basically old equipment discarded decades ago, and they're not very useful. If the military really wanted to harm Sun Laosan, he wouldn't have survived this long!

After driving for about ten more minutes, the journey was very slow. When they stopped, Lu Yuan got out of the car in a huge warehouse.

Upon hearing a car stop, several people emerged from the warehouse. They were wearing thin coats, shivering from the cold, and their lips were turning blue.

When they saw Brother Qing and the driver bring Lu Yuan over, a look of surprise appeared on the faces of the group. Then, a middle-aged man wearing glasses, his legs trembling, said in a shaky voice, "Brother Qing, why did you bring a kid in?"
