Chapter Thirty-Seven: Meeting Between Parents

Just as Lu Yuan was about to make an introduction, his father-in-law grabbed his father's arm and said, "Brother Lu, don't say anything now, let's go see how the old man is! I've already called my friend, hoping he can help the old man."

Dad excitedly grasped Xiaoshan's dad's hand and said, "Thank you!"

So the group headed toward the temporary wards that had been added on the second floor.

The wards are already full; a ward that could originally accommodate four beds is now crammed with six.

Lu Yuan looked at each hospital bed one by one, but he couldn't find his grandfather. Only the person lying on the innermost bed was not visible because several people were standing there.

Squeezing through the crowd, Lu Yuan found that the person on the hospital bed was not his grandfather.

"Uh...where's my grandpa?" Lu Yuan was stunned, and his father next to him was also stunned.

The father-in-law pulled a man in a white coat into the room from outside.

"Xiao Yuan, where is the old man? Let the doctor come and take a look!"

Lu Yuan turned around awkwardly.

"have no idea."

Everyone was stunned. The doctor in the white coat frowned and whispered to Xiaoshan's father, "Old Wei, stop messing around, okay? I have several patients waiting for me outside!"

The father-in-law was also a little embarrassed.

"Maybe...maybe it's not this ward!"

Just then, a familiar voice came from behind. An old man carrying a basin of cold water, a towel, and a box of Huoxiang Zhengqi Water (a traditional Chinese medicine for heatstroke) shouted, "Make way, people inside! Why are you blocking the road for no reason!"

Lu Yuan and his father looked over and, sure enough, it was their old man. He showed no signs of heatstroke at all.

"Dad! What's going on? Didn't you say you had heatstroke?" Dad squeezed through the crowd and asked.

The old man was stunned for a moment, then scolded, "What are you saying, you brat! Are you cursing me?! How could I, with such a healthy body, possibly have heatstroke! Who said that?"

"Cough cough! Grandpa, I heard from my mom that she heard it from the neighbors and saw you all get into the ambulance with her own eyes."

The old man suddenly realized and laughed, "Oh, I see. They've mistaken me. It wasn't me. It was Old Liu, who was playing chess with me. He suddenly collapsed halfway through the game, and a few of us old buddies took him to the hospital!"

As he spoke, he carried the water to the bed at the very back.

"How's Old Liu? Try applying a cool towel to his face!" A hint of embarrassment appeared on Grandpa's face.

An old woman glared at the grandfather and said, "Why can't you go outside to play chess in this sweltering heat? Don't you know how old you are! Humph!"

The truth of the matter was finally clear, and the old man had become the culprit. He simply put down his things, puffed out his beard, and left the ward.

Outside the ward, my mother was helping my grandmother, who was drenched in sweat, upstairs.

"Huh? Dad? What's wrong with you..." Mom was also a little incredulous.

Grandma looked on in surprise, muttering to herself.

"The hospitals in this city are really good! The person is lively and energetic again in less than half an hour!"

This was the first time the parents of both families had met. Although the location wasn't ideal, both sides were very enthusiastic and clearly delighted with the meeting.

"Let's go! Let's talk at home!" the old man said, and so everyone got into the car and went back to their villa.

When Xiaoshan's parents visited Lu Yuan's home for the first time, they were stunned by the enormous villa.

"Father-in-law, your house has such a big yard? And a fishpond too?" The father-in-law was clearly amazed by the villa.

"Hey! This brat did all this himself, spending a lot of money, he doesn't know how to manage money at all!" Dad started complaining. According to his decorating style over the years, everything here looks uncomfortable, but since the apocalypse started, he lives more comfortably than anyone else.

However, his father-in-law secretly gave Lu Yuan a thumbs up.

As I entered the house, my mother brought out various fruit platters and dried fruits, and also brewed some tea.

The tea was also planted by Lu Yuan. Because the old man loved to drink tea, he specially planted a Da Hong Pao tea plant by the pond. The tea leaves were just harvested recently, and Lu Yuan followed the method he found in the video to make the tea. The taste is no different from that outside, and even better.

The two chatted very congenially, and the mother-in-law showed her around the house. It was clear that both of them had a special fondness for the kitchen, as if they were kindred spirits.

The old man decided to have dinner at home that night and asked Lu Yuan to bring Xiao Shan back as well.

...

The two families, who are about to become one, sat around the round table. Both sets of parents were chatting and laughing, and were very optimistic about the marriage.

Lu Yuan frowned in worry, because once the topic of marriage was brought up, the issue of having children would inevitably come up.

Sure enough, Grandma hinted that she wanted a great-grandson, and Mother-in-law had completely sided with Grandma, readily agreeing and saying she would urge the couple to have a child as soon as possible. Xiaoshan, listening from the side, was so embarrassed that she buried herself in Lu Yuan's arms.

However, the old man was a very particular person when it came to appearances, and he insisted that the pomp and circumstance must not be lacking. He immediately mentioned things like the three letters and six betrothal gifts and the eight-bearer sedan chair.

The father-in-law picked up his teacup with satisfaction, took a sip, and said, "Uncle, these days, the customs of formal betrothal and elaborate wedding processions are no longer practiced. Besides, they're not allowed in the city anymore. Keep it simple! The most important thing is what the two children mean!"

"Yes, yes, yes! Xiao Yuan and Xiao Shan haven't agreed yet, let's ask them what they want to do first!"

"Yes, yes, let the children decide for themselves. Xiao Yuan and Xiao Shan must have already made plans!"

My mother and mother-in-law sat down and chimed in.

Lu Yuan felt his brain was a bit overwhelmed. Wasn't this just a simple meeting? How did they start planning to discuss things like setting a date? Had they picked up the wrong script?

"Ahem! Xiaoshan, what are you thinking?" Lu Yuan hadn't considered all that with Xiaoshan.

"I...I'm fine with anything!" Xiaoshan blushed again as she said this.

After discussing it, everyone decided to invite Xiaoshan's relatives to dinner first, and then talk about the engagement.

However, since Xiaoshan's two aunts and one uncle are all in other places and it is not easy for them to come, we can only notify them in advance. As for when they will come, we can only wait. Once they arrive, we will hold the wedding banquet and set the date.

Actually, Xiaoshan's parents didn't want to go through all this trouble, but the old man insisted on doing it this way. After all, both of them were only children, and this was a once-in-a-lifetime event, so they couldn't be without what others had.

Lu Yuan drove Xiao Shan's family home. When they arrived at the door, his mother-in-law hesitated, seemingly wanting to say something but remaining silent.

Xiaoshan's father smoked a cigarette at the door and finally spoke his mind.
