Chapter 38 Natsume Soseki's Kidnapping (shuhaige.net)

The remaining three members of the detective team, along with Junye, shook their heads helplessly and left first.

Conan said to Mitsuyu, "I just stuck the tracker on the money, let's hurry up and go!"

Following the man, Conan, Mitsuyu, and Ai arrived at a train station. Conan discovered that the man had already spent the money on a 110-yen can of coffee.

After asking about the general situation, Conan's powerful reasoning ability, along with the helpful assistance of the elderly cleaning man nearby, led the three to confirm the man's destination—Owatari Station!

Although the three of them arrived at Dadujian and asked the people around them, no one had seen the person wearing the black hat.

Conan looked at Kōyū, who was deep in thought beside him, and asked, "Kōyū, do you know where it is? Use your intuition!"

Guangyou shook his head, then suddenly a brilliant idea flashed in his mind, and he said, "If we're printing counterfeit money, then places like newspaper offices can be a good cover!"

At this point, Guangyou went into a nearby real estate agency and asked the manager for directions.

The three followed the direction to the newspaper office, and seeing the police station next door, Conan asked hesitantly, "There shouldn't be anything like this next to a police station..."

Ai shook her head: "The most dangerous place is the safest place."

Guangyou nodded: "You're right. Anyway, there's nowhere else to go right now, let's go check it out first!"

What happened next was just like in the anime. Conan used Shinichi's voice to inform Inspector Megure, and then the three of them found Toshiya's brother. Conan used some cans nearby to knock some people unconscious, and then Ai picked up a gun on the ground and broke a window, attracting the attention of the police nearby.

Without the interference of the three detectives from the original story, the entire process went very smoothly.

After Ai used her signature female technique, the police let her off the hook for firing the gun.

Although Mitsuyu knew that Ai's crying was fake, he still felt a little sorry for her. He didn't know if it was all an act or just an expression of her inner feelings.

In this episode, Kōyū only remembered a little bit, especially when he was messing with Conan later on. In order not to affect Ai's actions, Kōyū made up an excuse and rushed to Professor Agasa's house to prepare some food for Ai.

Just as Kousuke finished making the sandwiches, Conan rushed in and burst through the door. Seeing Kousuke carrying the sandwiches out of the kitchen, Conan was bewildered and asked, "Kousuke, where's the professor? Why didn't he answer the phone?"

Kōyū pouted and said, "Isn't it right inside? It's just that Professor Agasa has recently become obsessed with online chatting, and the phone line is busy."

Immediately, Kōyū looked at Ai, who had come in and put her schoolbag away, and walked up to her with a sandwich, saying, "Ai, try this!"

Ai paused for a moment, somewhat taken aback, looking at the beautifully presented sandwich on the plate. It was her favorite flavor: peanut butter and blueberry jam. She picked up the sandwich, took a bite, and said, "It tastes good, thank you."

Even with just such an ordinary sentence, Guangyou felt his heart race.

Conan yelled at the professor, "She's an accomplice of those men in black, how could she be in your house, Professor!"

Ai, while eating her sandwich, replied, "Because he picked me up."

Ai then recounted the situation at the time and her visit to the Kudo family.

Conan was no longer the man he used to be; his face was filled with panic: "So, does that mean your organization already knows...?"

Ai finished the last bite of her sandwich and said, "You should thank me. I've already changed your information to confirm your death because I'm interested in you and want you to live. If I hadn't changed it, you might have died at the hands of the organization before I found you. However, the organization might still be suspicious if they find out that it was changed by me, the traitor."

"Traitor?" Conan was puzzled by the words.

Ai nodded: "They gave people the undeveloped medicine without authorization, which is probably one of the reasons why I feel disgusted with the organization. But the bigger reason is my sister."

“She’s dead, killed by the organization. I questioned them, but they wouldn’t give me a reason, so I stopped my research. They put me in solitary confinement. I thought of you, so I tried taking APTX4869 and escaped. I think we’re in the same boat, and you should understand me.”

Although Ai didn't show anything on her face, there was a change in her eyes. Kōsuke knew what she was talking about, but he couldn't say it now, nor could he just say it out loud, for Akemi's safety.

Conan rushed up to Ai Haibara and yelled, "What the hell?! How am I supposed to understand someone like you who invents murderous drugs?! Do you even know how many people your drugs have killed?!"

Conan became more and more agitated as he spoke, and he even wanted to take action. So, Kōyū sighed, stood up, and reached out to cover Conan's mouth.

After breaking free, Conan glared at Kōyū and angrily demanded, "Kōyū! What are you doing! You're not the kind of person who makes murderous drugs...!"

Kōyū sighed and said, "It's no use treating her like this. Do you really think Ai really wants to research this drug? Do you know what she's been through? What's she getting so worked up about? Where's her usual composure?"

Hearing Guangyou's words, Conan touched his face, suppressing his anger.

Seeing that he had returned to calm, Kōyū continued, "If you want to turn back, you'll need Ai's help!"

Ai shook her head, got up and picked up a newspaper from the bookshelf. Just as she was about to speak, Kōyū said, "I know it was burned, but at least you are more familiar with it, so the chances are higher than the professor's."

Suddenly, Ai remembered something and said, "I remember my sister saved the travel photos on a disk and sent me two or three. Later, I looked at them on the computer at the research institute and then sent them back. Then I found that the disk containing the drug information was missing, and I searched for it for a long time."

Conan said, "So the floppy disks that were sent back might contain drug information?"

Ai frowned slightly: "I remember she said that the disk was sent by a university professor she went on a trip with, maybe..."

Conan, hearing the hope of turning back, seemed quite excited: "Then let's set off quickly!"

Although Kōyū knew what would happen if he went, he didn't want to stop him. It wouldn't hurt to let Conan suffer a little.

After asking for the professor's name and address, and saying hello to Ran, Professor Agasa took Conan and Ai to the professor's house. Kouyu didn't go, saying he was preparing a big meal for them.

Watching the three figures leave, Kōyū couldn't contain his excitement. His eyes shone as he looked at the kitchen and rushed inside, thinking: Tonight I must use my best cooking skills to entertain Ai!

As for the ingredients, Kōyū had already bought a lot on the way to save Akemi that day and left them at Professor Agasa's house. The professor was asking about them at the time, but Kōyū didn't say anything. He just gave the professor a meaningful look, which made the professor's skin crawl, so he ignored Kōyū.
