Classroom of Grade 3, Class B
As soon as Kōyū and Ai entered the classroom, they saw Ayumi, the other two, and Conan talking to a boy who was slightly older than them.
"What did he ask you to do?"
He hoped this job would be easier, preferably just finding a cat or dog, so as to avoid trouble.
"I'm just starting out, so don't rush me."
Conan rolled his eyes at Kōyū, then said to the boy, "You continue, ignore him."
The boy nodded and explained his request: "My name is Tetsuya Kuroki. I'd like to ask you to help me investigate the reason for my parents' cold war."
Upon hearing the contents of this request, Kōyū was clearly taken aback. After realizing what was going on, he chuckled to himself and said to Kōki Tetsuya, "This might be a bit difficult. But don't worry, it's common for adults to have a cold war. They usually get over it after a while. There's no need to ask us for help."
"But they've been in a cold war for a long time..."
Before he could finish speaking, Guangyou interrupted him and comforted him, "It's really okay. Adults often argue. Let them resolve these things themselves. As children, we just need to do our own job well and study hard."
As soon as he finished speaking, Kuroki Tetsuya became visibly agitated, his tone rising and his voice tinged with anger: "That's what every one of you says!"
After saying that, Kuroki Tetsuya picked up his backpack from his seat, took out an envelope, and slammed it on the table, saying, "You just want money, right? I can afford the commission fee. All you need to do is investigate!"
As soon as the envelope was taken out, Kōyū guessed what was inside, but he didn't expect that the boy named Tetsuya Kuroki would get so angry because of something he said.
Recalling what he had just said, Kōyū guessed that Kuroki Tetsuya had probably already consulted someone else, and that it was a legitimate private investigator.
However, those private investigators must have rejected him, and what they said was probably similar to what he just said, otherwise Kuroki Tetsuya would never have said those words.
It's probably a last resort to ask them to investigate. Kuroki Tetsuya must have heard about the Junior Detective League somewhere, and heard that they had solved several cases, including some murder cases. So he decided to ask them to investigate as a last resort.
Guangyou snapped out of his reverie, reached for the envelope on the table, opened it, and exclaimed inwardly, "I didn't expect this kid to be so rich."
Just from that quick glance, Guangyou felt that the money in the envelope was definitely no less than 50,000. If his family weren't rich, he wouldn't have known that any family would give a primary school student so much pocket money.
When Kōsuke opened the envelope, Ayumi and the other two also crowded around him and peeked into the envelope, then exclaimed in surprise.
Not only them, but even Conan was somewhat surprised after seeing the amount inside.
Normally, a child of this age would be considered to receive a lot of pocket money if they could get 1,000 yen a month. Ordinary families usually give them 500 or 600 yen a month, or 700 or 800 yen.
"How much eel rice could you buy with that much money?"
Genta suddenly imagined a delicious eel rice dish in his mind and couldn't help but swallow hard.
"Genta, all you know is eel rice." Ayumi complained before turning to Tetsuya Kuroki and saying, "Kuroki-kun, we can't accept this money."
Tetsuya Kuroki clearly misunderstood Ayumi's meaning and said excitedly, "You won't even help me investigate if I pay you?"
Conan, hearing this, realized there was some misunderstanding among them and quickly stepped in to smooth things over, explaining, "We're just kids, we don't need that much money, and besides, we really can't help with your parents' issues."
Ayumi, who was standing nearby, nodded in agreement: "Conan is right."
Seeing their attitude, Kuroki Tetsuya also considered giving up. After putting the envelope away, he lowered his head and packed his schoolbag, saying, "I just want my mom and dad to make up, why is it so hard..."
When Guangyou first heard this, he almost softened, but they really couldn't help with this. To put it nicely, their business hadn't expanded to the point of getting involved in other people's parents' arguments.
In Guangyou's view, the Junior Detective Club's job should be finding cats and dogs; solving even a small theft case is beyond the group's scope of business.
The previous murder and kidnapping cases were all accidents, and they were solved because of Conan. If it weren't for Conan, these kids would have been dead long ago.
To put it bluntly, they're nobody. They're just a bunch of brats meddling in the affairs of adults. It's like a dog trying to catch a mouse—meddling in other people's business.
He intended to leave with Ai, but he didn't expect that Ayumi would feel compassion because of what Kuroki Tetsuya had said earlier.
"Conan, why don't you help him? He's actually quite pitiful."
Ayumi looked at Conan with her big, watery eyes, then glanced at Kōyū, and said, "How about we go take a look? We absolutely won't interfere. Let's just treat it as a trip to his house, okay?"
“Ayumi, it’s not that we don’t want to help him, you understand the reasoning, we children shouldn’t interfere in adult matters.”
Kōyū understands that Ayumi pities Kuroki Tetsuya, and her intentions are good, but these kinds of things should be handled by more professional private detectives, not by their so-called detective team.
Fortunately, Ayumi was sensible and listened to reason. Her impulsiveness was suppressed by Kōyū's words, and she nodded with slight regret: "Kōyū, you're right, we shouldn't interfere in this kind of thing."
After saying that, Ayumi said to Tetsuya Kuroki with great apology, "I'm sorry, Kuroki-kun, we can't accept this request."
"It's alright, I expected this outcome. It's not your fault. He's right, you're just kids like me."
As his anger subsided, Kuroki Tetsuya became much more rational, but his words betrayed a deep sense of helplessness and regret.
"child?"
This made Guangyou think for a moment, and then he said as if he suddenly realized something, "That's right, kids shouldn't get involved, but professional private investigators can!"
As for which private investigator to hire, Guangyou already had someone in mind.
"But those private investigators didn't take me seriously because they thought I was just a kid."
Kuroki Tetsuya looked very downcast. After saying something in a frustrated tone, he picked up his backpack and prepared to leave the classroom, saying, "I'm leaving now, goodbye."
Seeing that he was about to leave, Guangyou called him back: "Wait a minute, I know a private investigator who might take your case, but the amount of money you're offering is probably a bit low, so he might not accept it."
"Which detective are you?" Kuroki Tetsuya asked quickly, sensing a glimmer of hope. "I have some money at home, probably around 80,000 yen. Is that enough?"
Guangyou thought for a moment, then said somewhat uncertainly, "Maybe... I'm not entirely sure if he'll accept, but at least there's a glimmer of hope, isn't there?"
Tetsuya Kuroki asked, slightly excited, "Which detective?"
Kwang-yu replied, "That's right..."
