Chapter 586 The Return Journey

After talking with Tetsuya Kuroki, Kouyu and his group left Teitan Elementary School and began their journey home.

It was already sunset, and the whole city seemed to be draped in a golden veil. The afterglow still felt warm on my skin, as if the sun wanted to radiate some light and heat for the last bit of time.

"Will it work?"

Ai, who seemed to know the two's plan, was a little suspicious. She glanced at Tetsuya Kuroki, who was walking ahead with Ayumi and the other two, and asked, "No matter what, he's still a kid. I doubt that old man would accept him, right?"

"It's okay, as long as he doesn't know it was the child who asked him to do it."

Guangyou replied, "I wrote him a letter of authorization and asked him to put the commission and the letter of authorization in the firm's mailbox. As long as he doesn't show up to reveal his identity as the client, I don't think anything will happen."

"Okay, speaking of which, why are you so concerned this time?" Ai nodded, tugged at Kōyū's hand, and asked tentatively, "Were you moved by this child's filial piety?"

Guangyou nodded, pondered for a moment, then shook his head, shrugged, and replied, "Maybe a little, I'm not sure, or maybe I just want that 80,000 yuan to go into my own family's pockets?"

Of course, the last sentence was full of teasing, and Ai didn't take it seriously, but she still smiled in response.

After parting ways with Ayumi and the others at the intersection, Kuroki Tetsuya couldn't wait to approach Kōyū and ask, "Will your idea really work?"

Guangyou's answer was very simple. He said directly to him, "Whether it will work or not, we have to try first. Anyway, you can't find anyone else right now, right?"

"That's true, but I'm still a little worried. I've hired more than a dozen private investigators before, and apart from a few who kindly asked me to leave, the others impatiently kicked me out."

Tetsuya Kuroki gripped a backpack strap in each hand, looked down at the ground, and sighed.

"Just don't reveal that you're a child, and this amount of money should be enough to investigate this kind of thing."

He wouldn't say he was completely certain, but he was about 60-70% confident that as long as Uncle Mori didn't find out that the client was an elementary school student, there shouldn't be any problems.

As for why he sought out Uncle Mori, Kōyū had his own reasons.

After Uncle Mori became famous, it was indeed convenient in many ways. For example, he was often invited to banquets and other events. These are all benefits that come with fame.

However, there are downsides as well. Even though people in this area know about the famous detective Kogoro Mouri, ordinary people wouldn't ask Uncle Mouri to investigate trivial matters.

The reason is simple: because Uncle Mori is famous, some people worry that if they hire Uncle Mori, the commission fee will increase, and it will definitely not be worthwhile for small matters.

The price will certainly not go up, since not many people are coming anymore. But people outside don't know this. Whenever they think of Uncle Mori's name, they think, "Wouldn't it be a waste of money to entrust such a small matter to such a celebrity?"

That's why people who aren't close to Uncle Mori won't come to him for trivial matters, and big things don't happen every day.

This resulted in the firm being open for three days and having nothing to do for two. Occasionally, they would get small cases, which were usually from neighbors who happened to be in trouble and asked Uncle Mori to take their cases for convenience.

Fortunately, the commission fee is always required whenever something big happens, and with Xiaolan managing the money, things are generally quite comfortable.

It was precisely because of this that Kōsuke decided to send Tetsuya Kuroki to find Uncle Mori, because he knew that Uncle Mori really wanted to have some savings.

In other families, parents give pocket money to their children, but in the Mori family, it's the other way around. Every month, Ran gives her father pocket money, which is quite an interesting story.

Therefore, Uncle Mori was always short of money. Although his monthly allowance was enough for him to eat and drink, and he could occasionally go to an izakaya for a drink, who would complain about having too much of that?

"Okay, let's give it a try and see. Hopefully it works."

Kuroki Tetsuya breathed a sigh of relief, while silently praying that the plan would proceed smoothly.

...

The group walked and stopped frequently, and most of the time Guangyou would stop to buy some of the delicious-smelling snacks around him and eat them with Xiao Ai.

To avoid any misunderstanding from the third-year outsider, Kōyū would always buy two extra portions, one for Conan and the other for Kuroki Tetsuya.

While enjoying snacks, the group followed the road to Professor Agasa's house.

Kōyū waved to Conan, who immediately understood his meaning. After giving him a speechless look, Conan called out to Tetsuo Kuroki, "Let's hurry up and leave; they're staying here."

"Oh, okay."

After responding, Kuroki Tetsuya followed Conan, muttering to himself, "So they're siblings. I knew something was off."

"Those two are indeed strange, but don't worry about them. Let's just go about our business."

"Um."

...

The sound drifting from afar made Guangyou's forehead crease with black lines. For some reason, he suddenly didn't find the snack in his hand appealing anymore.

Here comes another person saying they're siblings; Guangyou is utterly speechless at this.

It seems the snacks I bought him before didn't shut him up. What a loss...

Seeing the indescribable expression on Guangyou's face, Xiao Ai couldn't help but laugh out loud: "Who told you to get so close? It's no wonder people misunderstand."
