Chapter 879 Why is it you guys again?

Walking up to Shirafuji Yasumi, Kōyū looked down at her and sighed.

He could tell that Shirafuji Yasumi was completely finished.

Unless she's a god descended from heaven, Shirafuji Yasumi definitely wouldn't survive.

"It's hopeless." After squatting down to check on Shirafuji Yasumi's condition, Conan came to the same conclusion as Mitsuyu.

"How...how could this happen?!" Fukuura Reiji shook his head and took two steps back. This was something he simply couldn't accept.

It's understandable that he would react this way.

Even for someone else, seeing a friend who was joking with them not long ago lying motionless in a pool of blood would be hard to accept.

"No one is allowed to come near here until the police arrive," Conan said solemnly as he stood up.

"Let's wait in the car first."

"Hmm." After a moment's hesitation, Fukuura Reiji and the other two nodded in response.

"Let's go back first," Conan sighed and said.

"Mm," Guangyou replied, withdrawing his gaze.

...

The police arrived at the scene quickly, this time led by their old friend, Inspector Megure.

"The deceased's name is Shirafuji Yasumi, she was 22 years old and currently a university student," Takagi said, looking at the deceased's information.

After he finished speaking, a staff member in a white coat, while observing Shirafuji Yasumi's condition, spoke to Inspector Megure.

"Based on the current situation, the deceased most likely died from a severe blow to the head."

"Did he fall from above and die?" Inspector Megure looked up at the staff member and asked.

“I think that’s the case, because there are fallen branches around the body.” The staff member glanced at the ground and then paused.

"but..."

Sensing the staff's hesitation, Inspector Megure frowned and asked, "Is there anything suspicious?"

“There is indeed something suspicious.” The staff member nodded, pointed to the ground, and said, “Inspector, look around the area near the deceased.”

"The body was clearly bleeding heavily, but there were almost no traces of blood on the road."

Upon hearing this, Inspector Megure looked in the direction the staff member was pointing.

Inspector Megure then discovered that it was indeed as the staff had said.

A person who falls to their death from a great height would have lost a significant amount of blood, but apart from the area beneath the body, there are no traces of blood anywhere else.

“That’s true.” Inspector Megure frowned, then asked, “What is the estimated time of death?”

"The deceased likely died between 5 and 6 p.m., but the exact time of death can only be determined after a more detailed examination."

The staff responded earnestly.

"That's really strange," Genta said as he got off the campervan.

"Huh?" Inspector Megure turned his head and looked around. When he saw Genta and the other two behind him, he was stunned for a moment and said with a slightly speechless expression.

"Why is it you guys again...? Anyway, what's wrong with that?"

He was speechless.

"We took this road to the mountain after dark," Genta said to Inspector Megure with a serious expression.

“We didn’t see anyone lying on the road at that time,” Ayumi added.

“We stayed on the mountaintop for a while, and when we drove down the mountain, we found Taimi’s body,” Mitsuhiko added.

"What exactly happened?" Inspector Megure asked, looking at the three of them. "Could you describe it in more detail?"

“Inspector Megure, let me tell you.” Kōsuke led Ai forward and said, “We came here to camp today and met those people over there along the way.”

As he spoke, Kōyū stretched out his hand and gestured to the three people standing behind him, including Fukuura Reiji.

"Later we hitched a ride with their campervan to the top of the mountain to watch the fireworks. We didn't see any bodies on the way up."

"So that means you guys were the deceased's friends?" Inspector Megure stood up, looked at Reiji Fukuura and the other two, and asked.

“Yes, a few of us went to the mountaintop to watch the fireworks. When we passed by here, the fireworks had already started, so it must have been around seven o'clock,” Fukuura Reiji nodded and said.

"Then, around nine o'clock, after we finished watching the fireworks, we found her body on our way back to camp."

After recounting the general events, Fukuura Reiji sighed.

While waiting for the police to arrive, Fukuura Reiji gradually came to accept the cruel reality that Shirafuji Yasumi was dead.

Although he didn't want to believe it, it was the truth, leaving him no choice but to accept it.

"So when you passed by here around 7 o'clock, you really didn't see anyone lying in the middle of the road, right?" Takagi confirmed.

“Yes, all we saw at the time was a wooden fence lying on the road.” Fukuura Reiji nodded and said, “We didn’t see anything else besides that wooden fence.”

"A wooden fence?" Takagi and Inspector Megure were taken aback.

“Inspector Megure, Inspector Takagi, look up,” Kouyu said, pointing upwards. “There’s a fence around the mountaintop to prevent tourists from falling, but now there’s a gap in the fence.”

"We were watching the fireworks together on the mountaintop."

“Yes, what this child said is absolutely right,” Fukuura Reiji also said. “The wooden fence was lying in the middle of the road at the time, and I only managed to avoid it by braking suddenly.”

"Are you sure it's really a wooden fence and not a person?" Inspector Megure looked around. There were no streetlights along the road, so there was a possibility that he was mistaken.

"Of course! I went down to check it out at the time and suspected that the wooden fence had rotted due to years of disrepair, which caused it to fall off."

As the person who got off the bus to check the situation, Iiji Takuto immediately spoke up when he saw that Inspector Megure doubted the authenticity of this.

"However, after we went up there to take a look, it didn't seem to be rotting; it looked more like it had been deliberately sabotaged."

"For a moment, I was worried that Tai Mei might have accidentally crashed through the wooden fence while riding her bicycle and fallen down."

"A bicycle?" Inspector Megure turned to Takagi after hearing this and asked, "Takagi, have you found any bicycles here?"

"We haven't found any bicycles nearby yet," Takagi replied, shaking his head.

Upon hearing Takagi's answer, Inspector Megure turned to Fukuura Reiji and the other two, asking, "What kind of bicycle was it? Do you remember what it looked like?"

“Those are the portable bicycles we put on the campervan; they should be magenta,” Haruka Tendou nodded in reply.

"Our bicycle was also missing, so in addition to watching the fireworks, we also went to the top of the mountain to look for her."

"Because Tae-mi always likes to be the first in everything she does."
