Side Story (1): New Year, Same Wishes

“That makes sense.” Kōyū couldn’t help but laugh.

He had just forgotten about this part.

After chatting with Kouyu for a few more minutes, Sonoko urged Ran to draw a love fortune stick.

"Alright, Xiaolan, let's hurry up and draw lots!"

"It would be terrible if all the lucky draws were taken by other people!"

"Kuangyou, Ai, we're going to draw lots now. You two have fun, but remember to be careful, there are a lot of people here right now."

"knew."

After a brief farewell to Kouyu and Ran, she and Sonoko went to draw lots.

Meanwhile, Kōyū and Ayā planned to go to a nearby food stall to buy some food and do some shopping.

Although Ai has been in this world for eighteen years, or nineteen if you include this time, this is her first New Year.

For the previous eighteen years, and more than ten years in the United States, at most one person would symbolically celebrate Christmas, and given Ai's personality, she probably wouldn't have celebrated it at all.

In the following years, she continued to do research in Japan and didn't really celebrate New Year's Day on January 1st.

After buying a few skewers of grilled meat, some oyster rolls, and two servings of takoyaki, Kōyū and Aoi sat on a bench by the roadside, watching people heading to the temple to pray and those who had already prayed and were preparing to leave.

While eating the auspiciously named Huifang roll, Guangyou asked Xiao Ai:

"By the way, Ai, what did you wish for?"

"Wishes won't come true if you say them out loud."

Hearing Ai say that, Kousuke said "That's true," not intending to ask any further questions, but then he heard Ai say something else:

"However, one of my wishes has already come true, so it shouldn't be a problem to say it out loud."

"One of my wishes is that all of this is real and not just a very real dream."

"I hope that when I open my eyes next time, I will still see people coming and going, going to the shrine to draw fortunes, instead of a laboratory where there is no one except me."

What you smell is the aroma of various street foods mixed together, not the smell of various chemical reagents and medicines;

What I touched when I reached out wasn't a reagent bottle, but your hands that give me peace of mind.

While speaking, Ai will make corresponding gestures.

When she talks about looking, she will turn her head slightly to take in the scene before her.

Speaking of smell, she wrinkled her nose slightly and took a sniff of the air.

Speaking of hands...

She made the corresponding movements for the rest of the actions, except for her hands.

It wasn't because she was shy or embarrassed, but because her hand was already being held by Kwang-woo just as she was about to reach out.

“One of my wishes has also come true.” Kōyū said to Ai with a smile, holding her hand. “The wish that came true is the same as yours.”

"It's the same for me; I hope you can stay by my side."

"Next year, we'll come here again in a bunch of people to draw lots and discuss what we got, just like we did today."

"After drawing the fortune sticks, I'll take a stroll around this area and have some good food like this."

"The fortune slips may change. Maybe next year I'll draw a slightly lucky one or even an unlucky one, but I'm sure the person I'll draw a love fortune slip with will never change. It will definitely still be you."

"Mm," Ai nodded in response.

She smiled slightly and said to Guangyou:

"I can also confirm this matter."

"As long as you don't abandon me, I'll definitely stick with you no matter what."

"With pleasure." Kōyū smiled and agreed, then used a skewer to pick up a takoyaki and held it to Ai's mouth. "Come on, open your mouth."

"Ah... um..." Ai opened her mouth with a smile in her eyes and ate it.

For the two of them, the new year and new life began in this peaceful, harmonious, and sweet atmosphere.
