Side Story (6): A Mission We Cannot Lose

The cat café has opened.

After a period of preparation, all the work was completed, and Guangyou chose an auspicious day to announce the official opening of the cat cafe.

As someone who's terrible at naming things, Kōyū gave the cat cafe a simple and straightforward name: "The Cat's Coffee Story".

The concept of a cat café is quite novel. The opening day happened to be a weekend, and many people were attracted by it and curiously walked into the store.

In the cat-free area on the second floor of the shop, Kōyū, Akai Shuichi, and Kudo Shinichi sat at a round table near the railing.

"Don't you have any tasks today? You're so free that you have time to come over for coffee?"

"On vacation," Shuichi Akai said casually, taking a sip of his black coffee. "Your coffee here is pretty good."

His primary task was the winery, and now that the task was over, he naturally had a vacation.

However, in the past, once he finished a task at the distillery, he would immediately throw himself into the next one.

Now...

He shifted his gaze to a beautiful figure on the first floor, a rare hint of tenderness flashing across his usually cold expression.

“After all, I put a lot of thought into it.” Guangyou took a sip of his orange juice and turned his gaze to the girl playing with the cat on the first floor.

One of the reasons he opened this cat cafe is Ai Haibara.

This girl really likes these small animals.

As soon as she arrived at the cat café and saw the cats, a smile appeared on her face.

Seeing her so happy made him content.

Next to Guangyou sat a boy intently flipping through a book.

"Tsk, accompanying a girl to a place like this and being so engrossed in a mystery novel, no wonder he's the 'Heisei Sherlock Holmes' who got knocked out."

Looking back at Shinichi Kudo, who was completely oblivious to what was happening in the store and focused solely on reading mystery books, Mitsuyu felt rather helpless.

I thought that after he finally managed to make Xiaolan see his feelings through his own efforts, he would finally realize his mistake.

However, after observing the situation over this period of time, it turns out that this is not the case.

The first few days were fine; he hesitated a bit. But later, he was still the same "reasoning idiot" who would cancel on cases.

According to Ran, if he didn't do it this way, he wouldn't be Shinichi Kudo, so Mitsuyuu didn't want him to change.

It was just a joke, just venting.

"A new mystery novel has been released, and it's quite good. I'll definitely read it as soon as it's available."

Flipping through the book, Shinichi Kudo picked up the coffee cup on the table without looking up and took a small sip.

"puff!!!"

"What is this thing? It's so bitter!"

"Special black coffee, very bitter." Guangyou took a sip and muttered to himself, "Hmm, the orange juice is good."

"Then why are you orange juice?" Shinichi Kudo frowned, wiping the coffee stains from the corner of his mouth, and asked, "Didn't I say I was the same as you?"

"It was changed at the last minute," Guangyou explained. "I asked you if you wanted it, but you didn't answer me."

He really didn't mean it this time; it's just that Shinichi Kudo was so engrossed in his book that he didn't even hear what he was saying.

"Hmm." Shuichi Akai responded faintly, as if to vouch for Kousuke.

"Then please get me a new glass of orange juice," Shinichi Kudo said to Mitsuyu.

"Okay," Guangyou replied and went downstairs to get the orange juice.

After going downstairs, Kōyū saw Ai surrounded by two or three cats, so he went up to her and said:

"Ai, you really are popular with small animals."

"It's only our first meeting, and these little guys are already avoiding you."

“These little animals aren’t like people.” Ai said softly, stroking the head of an orange cat. “If you’re kind to them, they’ll be kind to you.”

The orange cat in front of them was the same one they had encountered on the road earlier.

This little guy is becoming more and more adorable with careful care.

It has a rather aloof personality. When other guests tried to pet it, it wouldn't give them any face and would turn around and leave.

Only a handful of people can gain its recognition.

His cat cafe forbids catching cats; cats have to be willing to be petted.

So the rejected customers could only watch as the aloof cat in front of them was being petted and its eyes were narrowed in front of others.

However, some people dislike this orange cat's dual nature.

Take Guangyou, for example.

He felt that if the orange cat was truly aloof, then it should remain aloof; treating it differently was inappropriate.

Kneeling beside Ai, Kōyū suddenly said to her:

"Ai, I've thought about it and I still want to be honest with you. Actually, I'm on a mission right now."

"And now is the critical moment of the mission."

"Mission? What other mission do you have?" Ai frowned slightly, stopped what she was doing, and turned to observe Kyou.

Seeing Guangyou's serious expression, she finally asked:

"Did those people from the FBI give it to you, or are you still taking on those missions?"

When Ai asked him a question, Kousuke shook his head and said:

"Neither."

Remembering what Kousuke had just said, Ai asked softly:

"Is it dangerous? Tell me the truth."

“There’s absolutely no danger, really.” Kwang-yu said earnestly, “For a boy, it’s reached a point where he can’t afford to lose.”

Ai's keen intuition told her that something was wrong with Kousuke.

It's very likely that, just like before, they'll take the opportunity to say some mushy things.

Her initially worried gaze now held a hint of doubt, and she asked:

What will happen if we win?

"You'll become a little happier."

After saying that, Guangyou immediately followed up with:

"I have something else to tell you."

"Actually, I had already won the moment you turned your head and focused your attention on me."

As he spoke, Kōyū used both hands to pick up the orange cat that was meowing and circling around Ai and carried it to the side.
